RB Carlos Hyde, JAC

#49ers RB Carlos Hyde is out of his no-contact jersey, appears fully cleared from concussion protocol enterinf MNF opener vs #Rams  (per Cam Inman twitter)

I was choosing between him and DT in my flex tonight, and based on this news will roll with Hyde with no Monday night safety net.

Year 3, I about gave up but suddenly he looks spry. He still is not much of a pass catching threat but I'm happy that I see some of the promise we saw as a rookie and in preseasons and of course his college tape which looked so good.

Last night offered up some hope.

The dude looked great last night, this offense is perfect for him.  Only concern will be if he can stay on the field otherwise he is a RB1.

Tried to trade for him all summer. Sigh. They will probably be behind a lot and the scoring chances could be limited but the talent is there.

my one bright spot in an otherwise dismal week 1
I liked his yards after contact. The Rams are a good defense and were in the backfield quite frequently. I don't have him in many leagues, but I think he'll do well this year. This week was a mixed bag - the game situation played to his favor (SF probably won't be nursing a lot of leads) but the defense was strong.

For those that waited on RBs and grabbed the likes of Hyde, Abdullah, Mathews, Ware, Woodhead, et al., it was a solid week.  Hyde looked like a RB1 but even if he gets RB2 like production he still was a value pick.  Injury is always a risk but you had to like what you saw last night.  Hit him with the Hyde!!!

Again unless you took DJ or Lamar Miller in the first, waiting on RB seemed to be the right strategy (unless you drafted Keenan Allen.) It's only week one but we could potentially have 3 big busts in Gurley, AP, and Freeman. Even Lacy looked bad.

Who's this guy wearing Hyde's uniform?
He looked awesome last year too. The problem was the rest of the team and nagging injuries. Time will tell if Kelly can inject some life in the offense or if it remains a dumpster fire. So far so good though.

You can put Gurley and Freeman on this list but ADP will eventually start clicking just fine. He has had mostly 8 man boxes his entire career. There's a first for everything but no I don't see how he will be a bust for the entire season. The team traded for Bradford, they have a plan, things will stabilize. They lost their franchise QB 2 weeks ago, let's give them a chance and also it was Week 1 on the road. They will get much better as the season moves along IMHO.

Freeman owners cannot be happy because mostly they felt blindsided by a sudden RBBC, now that could change but I don't think many owners who took Freeman in the 2nd were thinking they were sharing a lot of touches. Quite frankly, shame on the mags and publications and even most websites as I didn't see a lot of places warning about the dangers of Freeman in the late 1st/early 2nd.

I thought Freeman had a safe floor getting all the passing game work and most goaline touches. I May've been wrong.

It's still too early to write anyone off. Lets give it another couple weeks.

Carlos Hyde rushed 21 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns and caught his lone target for two yards in the 49ers' Week 3 loss to Seattle.
Even though the 49ers were getting pasted 37-3, Chip Kelly elected to pad his team's rushing stats by continuing to run the ball against Seattle's prevent defense. Hyde's two touchdowns made the score 37-10, then 37-17, and his long gain of 34 also occurred in fourth-quarter garbage time. Fantasy owners will obviously take the stats, but all in all this was not a promising performance from the 49ers' running game. They do get a much more favorable matchup in Week 4 against the Cowboys.

Not often you get garbage time rushing stats out of your RB like that. I think he went for something like 80yds and 2 tds on the ground in the 4th quarter when they were down 5 tds.

Hopefully that's how Kelly elects to run garbage time this year because they'll have a lot of it.

Yeah.  Sat him today because I expected the garbage time.  Didn't expect it to go to Hyde

Carlos Hyde rushed 22 times for 78 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco's Week 5 loss to the Cardinals, adding six receptions for 36 additional yards.
Hyde's score was a one-yard bunny. Hyde was running angry, as usual, but there was only so much he could do with the Niners presenting no passing threat, as usual. Considering how awful Blaine Gabbert has been, Hyde's fantasy campaign should be an ongoing disaster, but he continues to get carries and scores as an overwhelmed Chip Kelly sticks with the run even when facing big deficits. It's a dream come true for Hyde's fantasy owners, and usage that keeps him on the RB1/2 borderline. He has a tough Week 6 matchup in the Bills.

23...he was top 6 or 7 coming into Week 5 and I see him now in the top 3.

anyone who matched Hyde with a stud like David Johnson in redrafts is sitting in the driver's seat right now. I have that combo plus Eze E in one league. I also don't have a WR in the top 40 on that team so it ain't all roses.

He is a great fit in the Chip Kelly system and SF is going to go wth Chip for at least the next 2 seasons, this can't be a one and done like Tomsula. This is starting to look like an auto start and not just a flex option.

He is being given the ball a lot even when they are losing. He is a 3 down back, they have virtually nothing else to steal any touches. No matter who they face Hyde is going to get his hands on the ball. When they fall behind he catches a lot of balls. 6 receptions plus whatever yds and a TD to boot...it doesn't get much better than that.

Hyde has been legit this year and like you were saying I love how he gets garbage time points. Anyone worried about their record potentially limiting his touches later in the season? It has been great so far with Zeke McCoy and Hyde leading my team.

You have to think the TD's will come down at some point too, right? I mean 6 TD's for a RB through 5 games on a garbage team? Seriously? lol

This guy has already faced  Seahawks Panthers Cardinals and Rams front seven and has done it in impressive fashion. Schedule gets easier and while TD have to taper yards should increase.

Barring injury he will finish top 5 IMO

He's been right on the cusp of top 5 in PPG despite a tough schedule so far and has shown he'll still put up points even when they're losing (the biggest concern at the outset of the season).

I think my only real concern right now is injury.  He seems to hit really hard and get hit really hard an awful lot.

Just acquired this guy in dynasty after coveting him since he entered the league.  Gave up a decent amount (Ingram, Ware, and Duke Johnson), but they were all guys who frustrated me/underperformed/felt like JAGs.  I've now got Hyde paired up with David Johnson, Jordan Howard, and Derrick Henry, which feels like a great place to be in dynasty.

Is Hyde as good as I think he is?  I consider him a "blue chip" young dynasty RB, in the top tier.  Is my perception about right?  Love that his schedule gets easier from here.  Watched him run the past few weeks and he looks electric -- hoping with the easier schedule, and with Kaep possibly loosening up defenses, that he really takes off.

He passes the eyeball test, but game script has been the issue primarily.  Although Chip has been using him and running the ball in garbage time down.. so..

I have a similar group of dynasty RB's - DJ, Hyde, Henry, Dixon. I'm  really just hoping he stays healthy. He seems to produce when given the chance. We'll see how this stretch of easier schedule goes, but I suspect he's going to do really well and open a lot of eyes in the next four weeks.

Seen in a sling at practice today. My gut feeling is we definitely don't see him until after the bye.
I could see this as well if he is in a sling. I'm less likely to go after his backup as well based on the bye week next week. You would only get 1 week of value from his backup if Hyde is out.

This, plus ive seen differing opinions on who the guy to own would be

The San Jose Mercury News believes Carlos Hyde (shoulder) "appears on track" to return against the Saints.
Hyde practiced in a non-contact jersey Tuesday, but beat writer Can Inman believes it's simply part of his recovery. Shedding the jersey on Wednesday would have Hyde all systems go for Week 9.

Non-contact jersey today again, and there's some level of uncertainty if he'll play this weekend, with Chip Kelly going so far as to say "I have no idea."

Kelly: Carlos Hyde is still in non-contact jersey, hasn't taken any hits on shoulder. Sunday status TBD, will monitor end of week. #NOvsSF
Should we be worried about missing the game.  He is practicing right?  Just no contact...right?

I think you should definitely be worried. No contact jerseys on Thursday practices for a RB, who get hit practically every time he touches the ball, does not look good IMO.

Depends on tomorrow's practice, in my opinion. He is practicing "in full" (i.e., taking part in every aspect of practice), just without contact. If he practices the whole week without contact though, without even testing him out in practice to see what he feels like, I put his chances at better than not that he sits this week out.

If he practices tomorrow, with contact, and feels good - lock to start

If he practices tomorrow, with contact, and doesn't feel good - lock to sit

If he practices tomorrow with a non-contact jersey - Totally uninformed opinion, but I think 70% chance he sits, 25% he starts, 5% chance the earth swallows us whole before the weekend just to save us from the election next Tuesday.

I'd definitely be worried at this point.

I currently have Hyde penciled in as a starter this week, but the lack of contact and Chip Kelly's comment gives me reason for pause.  I agree with Moonshine: look carefully at Friday's practice report.
