RB Chester Taylor - Upgraded To Probable (1 Viewer)

lots of talk about Pinner, Fason, and Moore but if healthy, I would assume Taylor gets the bulk of the carries. He has been a little banged up with minor injuries all season and the brunt of a full workload for first time in career. I expect the week off to do him well and for him to finish the season VERY strong.

or do others expect that Childress may revert to his 3 headed monster days?

I saw on Rotoworld where he expects to play this week..thank god!!and he has a nice matchup against the Jets...hope he plays!! With Minnesota still fighting for a playoff birth I think he plays..

Chet would've had a HUGE game yesterday ... thankfully, I had Travis Henry and Betts (with FreddyT on my bench) to get me through.

At this stage of the season, Chet has to be considered my #1 (in one of my 2 big $ local playoffs), since Portis went down. I targeted Chester in both drafts, loving his playoff sked. Got through this week, but I'll need him next week, for sure.

Yesterday's win by the Vikes was a double edged sword for us Taylor owners ... keeps the Vikes mathematically alive (thereby giving Chester and the coaching staff incentive to get him back in there) but it also showed Childress that Pinner is capable, along with Fason (who had a nice outing in Chi-town), and Moore's always looming on passing downs, etc.

Had the Minnesota running game stagnated without Chester, it would've made me feel more confident in him coming back, and assuming his workhorse load vs. the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS.

If Taylor is not up to 100% this week, I'm sure Childress now has enough confidence in the other backs to either A) give Taylor another week off , or B) Spell him often with the Pinner/Fason/Moore RBBC.

No doubt Chester is the Viking's best RB, but ... will the braintrust deem it absolutely necessary for him to be rushed back if he is still hurting?

Good points.....I worry about that too. However, with KJ going down I will need to start him or it is Lundi. I am hurting at back right now. I need Taylor to play and Edge stepping up is huge. I need a big outing next week from Chester so I hope those one week wonders relax and let Taylor lead the team.

Sorry, but that was not a RBBC. Pinner gets the Lion's share if Taylor can't go. Even if Taylor can go, I don't see more than 15-18 carries.

Sorry? Who said that yesterday was a RBBC? Anyone? Bueller?Face it, since Chester went down vs. Chicago, it was first Fason, then Pinner. And you were 100% sure it was going to be Pinner yesterday .... riiiiiight. My contention is that if Chester is not 100% next week, that HE may be part of a RBBC ... NO ONE said that YESTERDAY was.

I can't see him NOT playing this week. He almost played this week, took until Sunday morning for him to finally say NO.

I hope he plays, McGahee saved my BUM this week... Vs. the Jets... hopefully the same can be said for Taylor.

No more coffee today guy.The ironic and hypocritical part is that you accuse me of misreading what you said, with respect to a RBBC, and then go and do the exact same thing. I never said I predicted that Pinner would start. lmao.Have a nice season.

If Taylor plays I would be shocked if he didn't get 20 carries minimum against the jets. And if Taylor sits no way in hell would I start Pinner after what happened last week.

If Taylor doesn't play and you are forced to start a Min RB, who would it be?I can see the argument that they may just change back to Fason to keep NYJ on their toes, but Pinner ran really well. I say if you have to go with someone, go with Pinner.

I'm pretty confident he will play next week judging by these comments.

In the St Paul Pioneer Press today, Taylor said, "We thought we'd give it another week and come back strong."

From another article in the SPPP today:

Taylor inactive: Running back Chester Taylor was inactive because of bruised ribs and said he decided in pregame warmups that it was best to play things safe.

"I didn't want to go out there for a couple plays and end up getting hit the wrong way and then it's not right," he said. "We all made a decision to rest it one more week and come out next week."

Taylor said he would be back for this week's game against the New York Jets.

"Yeah, I'll go the next one," said Taylor, who went to high school in River Rouge, Mich., about 10 miles from Detroit. "It was bad coming home and not being able to play. It hurt, not being out there helping my team win."

As a Taylor owner myslef, I have no qualms about starting him against the Jets if he is declared as active. The Vikings have had countless opportunities to rest/spell him and they've been uninclined to do so, so I have no doubts he'll get his usual allotment of carries if he plays.

Just trying to keep this updated with what I read in the paper.

Again, I'm more confident than ever that he will play and get his normal workload. I think Chester wants out there bad and will take it personally that Pinner was able to run well and score 3 TD's vs the Lions. If Chilly wants to get cute and play all 4 RB's there's nothing you can do. Barring a setback, I believe you have to dance with the one who brought you.

From the SPPP today, 12/12/2006:

Taylor watch: Running back Chester Taylor was inactive for the Lions game because of bruised ribs, and Childress said his status for Sunday's game against the New York Jets would be determined during the week.

Taylor, who has rushed for 1,098 yards and five touchdowns, was more definitive on the subject.

"I'm playing this week," he said, adding, "I feel a lot better than I did last week at this time."

With Taylor out, Artose Pinner rushed for a career-high 125 yards and three touchdowns at Detroit, but Childress said he has no plans to take any carries off his lead rusher when he returns.

"If Chester's in there and can give a full accounting of himself, I don't think you consciously take those off of him," Childress said. "(But) it's nice to be able to have confidence in the guys that they can go in there and do just as well."

Great example of valuable info. Thanks very much for posting this. :goodposting: :goodposting:

I like how Chester is saying that he will play this week against the Jets. No ifs or maybes or wait and sees.

Will keep paying attention to the situation but sounds pretty solid that Taylor is going to play.

I hope Chester plays...he could have a big game. Plus, Minnesota has a chance to make the playoffs and Chester is their best back.

That being said, he is my flex player and gambling on him and leaving Deion Branch on the bench.

If Taylor isn't declared the starter then I avoid the MIN RB's entirely and go to plan B which in my case is MIA RB Sammy Morris @ BUF who was on my waiver wire until I picked him up yesterday to be used as either depth or a block.

Meanwhile, running back Chester Taylor is hoping to play Sunday against the Jets against missing the Detroit game. Taylor will try out a couple of different protective jackets for his sore ribs in practice this week.

“I’m going to go out there day-by-day right now,” Taylor said. “The plan is to play Sunday and that’s my goal right now. I’ll just have to see how it plays out this week.”

I, too, am a Molester owner, but I am benching him this week. If I recall correctly, Chester left early in the two games previous to the Chicago game.

Here's my nightmare scenario: 1st and 10 after Minnesota receives the opening kickoff. Chester runs to the left side and then gets lit up by Jonathan Vilma right in the ribs (NFL players read papers, too, and are well aware of what types of injuries opposing players have). Chester leaves after 1 carry for 4 yards and does not return.

If that scenario happens, then I can say bye-bye "championship!"

Wed injury report has him as questionable. I'm going to take it as good news (as a Chester dependant) for now, as the prior pattern has been having him questionable on Wed, probable on Fri, playing on Sunday. However the details are he missed part or all of practice today - any Minny homers know if he did anything at practice today?

Chester Taylor (ribs) was upgraded to questionable for Week 15. He practiced on Wednesday but missed a portion of Vikings team drills.

The Associated Press reports Taylor will try to play this Sunday in a ripe matchup with the Jets. If he is able to play at full-tilt, Taylor will wear protective patting to cover his ribs. Monitor his practice regimen, although he may be listed as having missed portions through the week.

That's very good news for us Chester owners. :banned:
Agreed. For 3 weeks prior to Taylors rib injury Taylor was listed as questionable and not even practicing during the week yet would still play and get the majority of the carries. That he practiced is actualy an upgrade from that situation and I think he is going to play against the Jets.Keep monitoring the situation and I agree there is risk of him getting hurt during the game and then sitting again but thats a risk I will be willing to take even though I have some other strong options to choose from.

Conflicting reports here:

Vikings RB Chester Taylor (ribs) plans on playing in Week 15, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. On Wednesday, Taylor said he was planning on trying out several different protective jackets that would cover his ribs and keep him from aggravating his injury. "I'm going to go out there day-by-day right now," Taylor said. "The plan is to play Sunday and that's my goal right now. I'll just have to see how it plays out this week." Artose Pinner is expected to play for Taylor if he can't go. Taylor is questionable for the game and did not practice on Wednesday.

GB fantasy football. As a result of it more people care about the well being of Chester Taylor this week than the Pope.

What team does he play for?Heck, I won last week starting Fason in place of Chester. I picked up Pinner during the opening drive, and picked up Arlen Harris when K. Jones went down. I will start at least 1 of them this week.

I found nothing from the strib stating if Taylor practiced or not so I am not sure what sportsline is getting that from.

Taylor questionable

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006 by Judd Zulgad Running back Chester Taylor is listed as questionable on the injury report for Sunday’s game against the Jets because of the bruised ribs that forced him to sit out in Detroit.

Quarterback Brooks Bollinger (shoulder) also is questionable. Listed as probable are nose tackle Pat Williams (knee); cornerback Cedric Griffin (neck); linebacker Napoleon Harris (wrist); and receiver Marcus Robinson (ankle).

The Jets, meanwhile, have 14 players on their injury report. Listed as questionable are fullback B.J. Askew (foot); cornerback David Barrett (hip); linebackers Matt Chatham (foot) and Bryan Thomas; and defensive back Eric Smith (foot).

The nine players put down as probable are not a concern because that designation means it’s a “virtual certainty” they will play.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Chester Taylor will try to play this week for the Minnesota Vikings, who listed their leading rusher as questionable on Wednesday's injury report.

Taylor bruised his ribs on Dec. 3 at Chicago and didn't play last week at Detroit. He said he's planning to play Sunday against the New York Jets after trying out a protective pad in practice this week.

"That's my goal right now," Taylor said. "I'll just have to see how it plays out."

Despite missing one game, Taylor is seventh in the league with 1,098 yards.

"It's not so much the sensitivity. It's all the twisting and fighting for extra yards and that type of thing," coach Brad Childress said. "We'll just see how comfortable he is as he gets out there."

Brooks Bollinger, whose shoulder injury left him as the emergency quarterback last week against the Lions, is practicing and also listed as questionable.

I found nothing from Pioneer Press yet. Still looking.

"Practicing" can mean anything. Him missing the "team" portion of practice (defined as missing any portion of 11-on-11 team work) is not good news, contrary to what's been said here. They didn't want him to take a hit in the ribs.

All this means is one more day to get healthy. I'm guessing a GTD. At least it's an early game.

Fanball is quoting the AP article I posted above with a headline saying Chester Taylor did not practice but I am not sure where they are getting that information from because it does not say that in the AP article.

12/13 18:27 Taylor misses practice, hopes to play

THE NEWS

Chester Taylor will try to play this week for the Vikings, who listed their leading rusher as questionable on Wednesday's injury report. Taylor bruised his ribs on December 3rd at Chicago and didn't play last week in Detroit as a result. He hope's to play Sunday against the Jets, but would likely have to wear a protective pad over his midsection. "That's my goal right now," Taylor told the Associated Press. "I'll just have to see how it plays out."

Our View

Taylor has been a solid play for fantasy owners all season long, and thus his injury couldn't have come at a much worse time. Frustrated fantasy owners had to Artose Pinner go off last weekend, and he was likely available on the waiver wire in most leagues. Chester will probably be a gametime decision.
ETA- what Fanball doesen't mention in thier paraphrasing of the AP is this:
He said he's planning to play Sunday against the New York Jets after trying out a protective pad in practice this week.
That Taylor was testing out protective padding in practice tells me that he did practice. Not that he didn't. FWIW

Well, my lineup has to be set by tomorrow's games so I plan to roll the dice and play CT. Don't have much better options at this point.

Any updates? I'm vascillating between him and MJD and need to submit my lineup soon...
It is a bit early for news yet still as teams are still practicing right now..Childress is very tight lipped so it will be difficult to know anything right up until game time. I spent quite a bit of time looking at Taylors situation yesterday but I could not draw any solid conclushions from it.MJD has a good chance to be successful against the Titans I would think and is a much safer play at this point imho although I understand that Taylor does have a higher reward.. but that comes with a lot of risk also.gllll peas

This is just more of the same from Pioneer Press this morning:

Injury update: Vikings running back Chester Taylor is optimistic he will play Sunday against the New York Jets.

Sidelined because of sore ribs against the Detroit Lions, Taylor will test flak jackets to protect himself this week.

"The plan is to play on Sunday," Taylor said. "That's my goal right now. I just have to see how it plays out this week."

Taylor said the week of rest has him feeling much better. He is still listed as questionable, and he was limited for part of practice Wednesday.
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/sports/16234162.htmThis does however verify that Taylor did practice yesterday although he was limited.

Injured Vikings running back Chester Taylor says he's good to go for Sunday's game with the Jets.

The Vikings didn't seem to miss a beat without Chester Taylor last week, but that admittedly was the Lions, who everyone seems to steamroll.

But, after Artose Pinner lit up the Lions for 125 yards, Taylor wants his starting job back.

He returned to practice Wednesday and proclaimed himself ready to play Sunday.

Of course, the final decision lies with Brad Childress, who, as you can imagine, won't be talking on the situation.

The medical staff believes today will be the best gauge as to whether Taylor can play -- a day after he gets hit and twisted around for the first time.

http://vikings.scout.com/2/600728.html

Nice find Bud Grant. It's basicly the same thing but with a bit more positive spin to it and some motivation factor involved.

Was talking with my cousin about the situation last night and he mentioned the same thing that Taylor probobly didn't like seeing another Rb perform similarly to what he has done and that is extra motivation for him to play and keep his job. If the Vikings decide its just all about the Oline and they can use any Rb that would make Taylor expendable. So he doesen't want that.

At the same time I don't think Taylor is in any way really at risk here. Pinner admitted he was extra motivated against the Lions who cut him last offseason and that all he had to do is follow his blockers..

Ultimatly its the HC's decision and he isn't going to make that known.

My gut tells me that Chester will play and I currently have him in my lineup over Carnell Williams, Lawrence Maroney, DeAngelo Williams Cedric Houston. But those lower tier Rbs are playing the Vikings Bears and Steelers respectivly. The only one who has a good match up is Maroney and he is questionable as well.. in fact I think a lot moreso than Taylor is and he has Dillon to deal with. So my mind is somewhat made up for me..

If Taylor is a no go at game time then I will be forced to play a Wr from my flex instead... probobly Bernard Berrian.

not sure if this has been posted allready, sorry for the clutter if so...

Vikings injury recap

Written by: Kevin Seifert ¦ 12/14/2006

Source: www.startribune.com

Running back Chester Taylor (ribs) returned to practice Wednesday and said "the plan is to play" Sunday against the New York Jets. Taylor said he planned to wear protection over the affected area during practice so he could learn how to compensate for the additional padding.

"I'm going to work out on it and see how it goes," said Taylor, who is listed as questionable on the injury report. "I'll use every precaution necessary and then just go out and play."

Coach Brad Childress said he would watch Taylor carefully to ensure he is prepared for the rigors of a full game.

"It's not so much the sensitivity," Childress said. "It's all the twisting and fighting for extra yards and that type of thing. We'll just see how comfortable he is as he gets out there. It's one thing to be in shorts. It's another thing to be in pads."

Brooks Bollinger, who spent his first three seasons with the Jets, practiced Wednesday and is listed as questionable. Childress said he is comfortable with Bollinger or rookie Tarvaris Jackson as the No. 2 quarterback, but of Bollinger he said, "I just want him to be able to be healthy enough to play in the game."
