RB Clinton Portis In Walking Cast Last Week (1 Viewer)

Makes Betts an extremely valuable player if he's still on your WW - don't sleep on him this week since others may (bye week and all)

Seems to be conflicting reports there. Original article from Ron by Jason LaCanfora (who is a good source for WAS stuff) says team is calling it a high ankle sprain.

Other article http://www.wboc.com/Global/story.asp?S=5581341&nav=MXEa

said Bubba Tyer (long time trainer) calls it a "mild sprain". Huge difference.

Let's see how this plays out. Hold on to Betts but I wouldn't bail on Portis just yet.

Does "high" in "high ankle sprain" have anything to do with the severity? I assumed "high" had to do with the location. Can it be a mild high ankle sprain?

Hi dgreen,Yes, that's correct. "high" refers to location. It's the tougher more fibrous ligaments that hold the lower leg bones together vs the ligaments lower in the ankle. You don't often hear of a "mild" high ankle sprain but that is certainly a possibility.

Hey Joe,A high ankle sprain means he sprained the syndesmotic ligaments, or other ligaments holding the fibula and tibular together. It usually is more severe because more force is required to get a high ankle sprain. A mild or grade one sprain, there is a stretch of that ligament, and this is what can be meant by "mild". However, tradionally it does usually take "high" ankle sprains to heal longer because of the force that is required in the area to walk or play even if it's "mild".

A "high" ankle sprain is caused by an outward twisting of the foot and ankle. This is opposite of a typical ankle sprain where the foot and ankle are twisted inward. However, treatment is basically the same as a normal ankle sprain. The boot is normal and is usually on the athlete for 3 weeks, but Portis may have a milder case than a tradional 1st degree sprain. If he was able to play Sunday after the incident and is able to walk without much pain now then he could be fine after two weeks rest.

ouch. It'll be a few weeks before we know. Betts hasn't looked all too bad in relief this season. It seems like Washington uses their runningbacks in a fantasy-friendly way. My gut tells me this isn't gonna ba a "back right after the bye" kinda thing. Just get CP healthy for playoffs. **fingers crossed**

Do you think he's more valuable than say, Musa Smith at this time? Musa himself could be one more bad game from Jamal Lewis away from being the starter there for the rest of the season. If it is a high ankle sprain, Portis will eventually be back.

Any new insight?
October 31, 2006, 07:49Redskins :: QB, RB, WR, PR/KR, LB

RB Portis, WR S. Moss, QB Brunell, Miss Practice

Jason La Canfora, Washington Post - [Full Article]

The Redskins were without four of their principal offensive players for yesterday's practice because of injuries, QB Mark Brunell, RB Clinton Portis, WR Santana Moss and WR/PR Antwaan Randle El, and also starting MLB Lemar Marshall did not practice. HC Joe Gibbs said it is too soon to determine how many will play Sunday. Of the group, only Randle El (heel) participated in team drills, shagging punts on special teams, with Brunell (rib muscle) throwing a bit on the side. Portis (left ankle) and Moss (left hamstring) walked cautiously to the field about 20 minutes into practice and did only light individual work. Footballguys News Blogger

I was hoping to find some good news here as Portis was not listed in the "Players in the News" content. Nothing on the blogger from today. I would expect him to be listed questionable this week. Hopefully not a GTD. I hope they rest him if he isn't 100%.

He rested the whole second half of the last game, and fwiw...STOOD on the sideline (I lost by one point). Then he rested the whole bye week. How much more rest does he need and why on earth was he STANDING on the sideline if his injury was severe enough to keep him out two weeks later? This just doesn't make sense to me. I hope it works out because I am swirling around the toilet from picking him and Rudi as my first two picks. Please don't hit the flusher Clinton....please!

adrenaline allows people to do some amazing things... he probably didn't feel the full effects until after the game and even more so the day after...

Duckett have any value at this point? He has not done much, but if Portis were to be out it would seem that Ducket would come into the picture somehow.....wouldn't he? (I don't understand why the traded for him otherwise.)

Last time Portis didn't play, Duckett got five carries.

Good News.....

Clinton Portis (probable, ankle) returned to practice Wednesday.

The bye week came at a good time for Portis, who hurt his ankle against the Colts. Don't expect huge numbers against Dallas, but Portis is a solid play this week. Rotoworld

Per rotoworld:

Mark Brunell (ribs) returned to practice Wednesday, throwing passes with Washington's first-team offense.

The Jason Campbell era will have to wait. Brunell is listed as probable, but isn't a recommend play against Dallas. Clinton Portis also returned to practice and is probable. Nov. 1 - 5:43 pm et

Looks like he will be a go as of now, but he still has a tough match-up against Dallas.

Bump for the latest...WTEM beat reporter says Portis was moving around very well in practice yesterday and shows no ill effects of the injury.

Sounds like we should consider sitting him only based on matchup at this point.

Great news. Benching Portis based on matchup is  , though. He can get stuffed all games and get 2 tds in a fifteen minutes.

WTEM beat reporter says there's a chance he is out this weekend. He's waiting to see if Portis practices today, but he said we might see a Betts/Cartwright/Duckett monster this weekend if Portis can't go. Will clarify when I hear more. Sounds like there's more than a small chance he'll sit.

Gotta love WTEM.

I thought I heard in a men's bathroom at a bar that Portis has what is called a Lisfranc fracture and is out for the season.

I figured I would bump this back to the front page before a new thread was started.

So he did practice Thursday after being limited on Tues and Wed.

Yeah - CP will play. How effective he will be - that's a tough call. He hasn't done that much against Dallas for the Skins...still, this isa do-or-die game for Washington. They'll give Portis the ball until they're down three touchdowns, so he has the opportunity.

At least until the second half... :wall:

Except that they haven't been giving him the ball lately. Those plays must be around page 578 of the 700-page playbook. Sources tell me the Skins are only at about page 329 right now.

LOL, good one!

Portis practiced today (Friday) and is probable for wk 9.
