RB David Johnson, Retired (1 Viewer)

Anyone taking him over Bell at 2 ppr? Feels like one of those decisions that gets ridiculed draft day but looks way better mid season.
If Bell doesn't report by my draft tomorrow then I will probably drop him a spot or two.

Not sure how much I like DJ in the new offense though. McCoy is decent enough but Arians impact shouldn't be diminished.

He also hasnt done jack in 5 years.

DJ is a year removed from super stud-dome, and hurt his wrist last year.
He came back last year and was immediately, and obviously, the most dominant player on the field. He miraculously managed to put up 18+ ypc with Deshone Kizer throwing the ball.

And, again, he doesn't cost the #4 overall pick to acquire.

He also had a 42% catch rate. The knock on him is that he's very athletic, but he needs to be peppered with targets because he often misreads the coverage and breaks the wrong way and just uses his natural ability to overcome his mistakes. He's not a great technician, but when you're an athletic freak you can make up for mental mistakes. Maybe now that he's sober he'll make fewer mistakes.

Took him 4th in non-ppr redraft last night and feel pretty good about it. Went Bell, Gurley, EE, DJ. Briefly considered Kamara but feel like DJ has the least questions after Gurley of the premier RB's.

Yeah - I’ve read that a ton.

I had 1.01 in a redraft, and took Gurley. I don’t expect him to go back-to-back, but I though of the top 3 I liked his situation the best, and I think the Rams are an up & coming offense. He’s a great receiver, so he’s game-flow proof, he wasn’t holding out, and he’s not a Dallas cowboy (which would make me ill to have on my team). And David Johnson’s team isn’t awesome but I have a man-crush on him from a couple years ago when he was money as my RB2.

So even against the odds, I like Gurley as 1.01 this year. Time will tell if it’s right or not

Cardinals signed David Johnson to a three-year, $39 million extension.

It's a last minute deal on the eve of Week 1. The Cardinals were reportedly far apart in talks with Johnson as recently as Friday, but the sides were able to bridge the gap with a shorter-term extension. Johnson gets $30 million guaranteed and $13 million AAV, making him the second-highest paid back behind Todd Gurley. It's a player-friendly deal for Johnson coming off a lost 2017, but allows Arizona to avoid in-season distractions. One of the league's top all-purpose playmakers, Johnson is now signed through his age-29 season.

Wilks also said David Johnson will be utilized more in slot, getting him into space.
The fact that he has functioning eyes and it took him this long to figure this out is astounding.

Doing the exact opposite of what they think they should with David Johnson would be better than this. What are they thinking? Get Bradford out of the starting lineup too.

Here’s another thing. If you watched week one, while it wasn’t great, they did throw him the ball at least twice if not three times on the same possession in the red zone and he uncharacteristically dropped two of them that look like they would’ve been touchdowns. Would we all be freaking out if he had caught one of those and walked it in for his second touchdown? Probably not. We’d probably be talking about how great the Rams defense is to be able to shut down David Johnson and the Cardinals this last week. I’m not happy but it’s too early to freak out and if it continues being this bad I’m sure management will do something.

This situation has bust of the year written all over it and I hate myself for not only taking Johnson over Kamara but it's also I one keep legaue and I chose him long term over Kamara. Anyway, not that anyone cares. I'm benching him. This week for Cory Clement. Yes. Early rankings have DJ ranked SIXTH overall for RB/WR/TE. That's preposterous. Against the Bears? This has all the making of Gurley under Fisher two years ago. How manny weeks did you live with that before puli g the trigger and benching him? It ain't the p,Ayer, it's the situation.

Gotta say that, though I still feel same about DJ and am hopeful, I did just trade him and Parker for Hunt and Cooper.

Man, I need this guy to bounce back in my redraft league. You all think he will?
I think so, not to the degree where he was drafted at, but I'm personally a believer in Wilks as a head coach. Whether that means firing McCoy, changing to Rosen, figuring out how to open things up more for Johnson, whatever the case, things can't stay the same quite frankly.

Chicago defense is tough, however, Trubisky is traveling to Arizona and that defense is pretty decent. Can see him moving the ball pretty poorly, leaving some more opportunities for DJ.

Man, I was so close to picking Kamara over him too. I convinced myself at the last second that DJ was the better pick, even though I knew Kamara had incredible efficiency.

That seems aggressive.  Good luck.

I still say Kamara moderates once Ingram is back.  But yeah, he's going to blow DJ away.
That was my thinking, but Kamara could go up in efficiency b/c of that too. I just went off of ADP value because I couldn't make up my mind. Ugh, wish I had that back. Saints got the better offense too, so more drive/snaps for Kamara, and more opportunities to get the TD.

Good luck with starting Clement, I get it. However FWIW, the Colts defensive line for run blocking is #2 DVOA, just behind PHI which is #1. Something to keep in mind. At least it is the Eagles offense though, even with the injuries.

As a Bears fan, I can really see Trubisky screwing the pooch against the ARI defense, leading to more DJ opportunities.

Yeah I'm walking that one back but only because I landed Gio. I'm not playing DJ in standard this week. PPR yes as I have no choice but Arizona has a good D? They've been pasted twice now. I expect Howard to steamroll them if Nagy AKA Andy Reid jr. Doesn't screw it up.

I think you have to take their defense in context. Week 1 they played the Redskins D, which is top 5 I think right now in coverage... which means Bradford will suck as he did, and their defense is on the field the whole game. Week 2 they played the current SB favorites (Rams, unless the Pats just overtook them), so again, can't really gauge the defense. I think they are better than some think.

I disagree. This D is really bad. Maybe not historically bad like the O, but the Skins and Rams both just walked through the D.

Of course, part of the problem is that the O can’t get a first down so the D is on the field a ton. But I don’t see that changing at all against this Bears D. This is going to be another laugher.

Naw, he'll go for 200-2 against the Bears first, while on a ton of benches, just to really rub it in.
Not a chance in hell this happens. You could cut those numbers in half and there’s still only about a 10 percent chance of it happening

10 percent chance he hits 100-1 sounds pretty low to me. I'm a Bears fan, and could very much see it happening. Bears defense has been good, but not elite so far. They haven't faced a RB with even 25% of Johnson's talent. They faced a 1 dimensional Seahawks team that played into their hands, and played half of a great game against the Packers, while getting torched for the other half, and even the good half, was partially against DeShone Kizer.

I own Johnson in one league, and I'm sitting him(for Tevin Coleman) but I think Johnson(and the Cards in general) will be better this week than they were in the first 2.

This is a great point.  When was the last time the Seahawks had a great run game?  And the packers have a decent run game at best and Aaron jones is their best runner and he wasn’t playing.  So it was a pedestrian jamaal Williams.

Arozona seems intent on getting DJ more involved.  Let’s see...

I’m a huge Cards fan and will be at the game. I hope you’re right.

But, this Cards O has been historically bad so far. They are one of only 12 teams since the merger that has started the first two games with under 500 total yards and 6 or less points.

I’m not so worried about the Chicago D. I’m more concerned that this offense is just absolutely terrible.
