Actually, it's 2:2, because you can't discount 2017.  And how did this "top offense" fare without DJ?  25th in points, 15th in passing yards, and 30th in rushing yards.  Seems like the only times ARI has been a top offense was with DJ.

 
I find myself arriving at some of the same concerns as @travdogg but from a different direction. I don’t question DJ’s talent. I don’t think you put up the numbers he did his first two years wo being awfully good. I do think there’s a surprising lack of concern over the number of things that have to come together - most of which would be considerable historical anomalies (e.g. a generally unsuccessful college coach making an immediate successful jump to the NFL) - for this offense to sustain 16 games of top production in year one

He's been one of the best offensive coaches in college the 5-6 years. Why are you worried about Arizona's record?

 
All I care about is if they are going to hit 70 offensive snaps a game like Kingsbury wants. 

David Johnson was RB9 with Arizona running less than 60 last year.........

I think the offense will hit 70 snaps per game.

Last season, and among all 64 Power-5 teams, Kliff Kingsbury’s Texas Tech offense ranked third in snaps per game

Higher Snap Count Expectancy Doesn’t Faze Cardinals Defense

If training camp is any indication, the offense will play fast in 2019.The criticism of such a style is that it wears down the team’s own defense because it is on the field a lot week after week. Texas Tech, for instance, averaged 78.4 defensive snaps per game during Kingsbury’s coaching tenure, about 12 more than the Cardinals defense played in 2019

Are you referring to my earlier post about the young WRs, DJ without Arians w the bolded? Sorry if I’m misunderstanding. 

As for Kingsbury I agree his success as an offensive coach needs to be counted. My intention isn’t to ignore the potential of the scheme fit or his pairing w Murray. It could be fireworks. I don’t think I disagree strongly w your take, though I’m a bit more cautious on how immediately this all comes together.

I am also thinking about DJ mostly for dynasty. Imo for him to get back to the top tier a whole lot has to work out right away. If that doesn’t happen then he’s coming off two good but not great seasons as a 28 yo RB. So I’m not down on the offense so much as exercising moderation. I think they have really nice pieces that may just take some time to come together. That has me fading DJ just a hair while I would buy Murray if I could. If that makes sense.

I'm referring to your "unsuccessful" college coach comment. You might have been aware of Kingsbury's offensive success but a lot of doubters have made similar claims and had no idea his teams were ranked so high offensively.

Ah that makes sense. No I think he’s a top offensive mind. I’m wondering more about his ability to successfully manage the whole team. 

 
So. What’s everyone’s take after week 3 preseason? I’ve had DJ as a keeper for the last 4 years. Last year was painful. 

Offense is looking good IMO. Kyler seems to be a massive upgrade over last year.

The one player that will benefit the most with the new regime is DJ, by a large margin.  As @Milkman said, all DJ needs is for ARI to increase their offensive plays, and he will be golden.  We saw DJ's absolute floor last year, and he still finished RB9.  2000 total yards here we come!

 
I sure hope so gents. DJ cost me an 8th round pick this year. I also had the option of keeping Damien Williams for a 15th.... hope i didn’t make a mistake. I did make a point of scooping up Darwin Thomas though

IMO this is and will always be a horrific strategy. More injuries, more potential turnovers, and this tires out your defense. 

People keep trying to reinvent the wheel. Good DL/OL play, strong running game and limiting turnover will always be the best method to win football games in the NFL.

It has major fantasy implications as well for all the reasons I mentioned.

Best case: If it works, at best you tire out the defense and you end up in offensive shootouts. That many plays in an NFL game week in and week out will wear down your players which by all accounts increases the chance of injury (not to mention more plays= more opportunity for an injury. 

Worst case:

You don’t get off to a hot start, go 3-0ut a few times and now you’ve got a worn out defense and you’re playing into the opposing defensive teams plans because you’re forced to pass to catch up. 

It won’t work. Lol if y’all think Kyler Murray is going to finish the season.

Sorry, I figured out what you meant. 

Still not sure that will have the effect you think it will. Generally teams down by 20 in the 4th are passing downfield. 

You would get so many more points from DJ with a balanced attack.

The worst starting QB we have seen in the last 10 years threw 35 TDs under those conditions. What can an elite QB do?

You don't see games where he gets 10 plus catches when Arizona is down 20+ in the 4th? Like Barkley did last year?

I dont want to keep disagreeing with you as I am not looking to argue but who is elite? Murray? He’s smaller than both of us. That dude ain’t gonna survive.

Well, not a bad week 1 result.  I am not expecting too much next week against the ravens, but the offense looked WAY better in the 4th, if they can keep that momentum going, should be a strong year for DJ.  I think Chase Edmond got one carry..... DJ still a rare workhorse.

He'll be fine against the Ravens as well. As long as he's healthy he's an auto start.

agreed. This dude is a workhorse and the Detroit run D is legit. Ravens have a tough defensive line too but with the Jimmy Smith injury, DJ is going to get some space as they try to defend 3 and 4-WR sets all day.

 
The Air Raid forces 1 on 1 match ups even when teams are in zone. That's what they did in that play. Got DJ matched up 1 on 1 because there is simply to many players running routes. 

DJ made an amazing play because he's insane good.

I believe Air Yards is in relation to the line of scrimmage, meaning he probably caught most of his passes last year at or behind the line of scrimmage (which I'm assuming would be 0 air yards per catch not 1 per catch).  In other words he was running routes down the field on Sunday.  I think on one of the podcasts they said he lined up and ran a route as a WR 15 times on Sunday and only did that 16 times all of last season.  When he was the #1 RB in 2016 they said he lined up as a WR an average of 11.4 times per game.

 
Love seeing all of the encouraging usage stats, but I can't help but be concerned that the offense was putrid for three quarters.

I was going to get on Milkman and it all turned around. I think BAL is going to be some growing pains for AZ as if the preseason and most of the regular season weren't. One thing: If you're invested in Kyler Murray, you're not getting those rushing yards. Nothing about the pre- or regular season points to it.

But it points to a lot of Johnson usage, to keep it within this thread.

I've def lowered my expectations for Kyler and the Air Raid at least early in the season......I still think it's going to take off at some point this year.

Reality is a cruel crusher of wonderful dreams and theories. That said, they looked good in the fourth and OT the other day.
