RB Derrick Henry, BAL (1 Viewer)

Haven't dropped him yet, but no chance I'm starting him until I see multiple decent weeks. Even if you write off the first week -- hard to wear down a defense when the game takes seven hours to play -- he's been borderline useless so far.

For those of us who kept him in hopes that this would be a breakout year, looks like we took a decent gamble that won't pay off. It happens. We move on.

For those who are new to the Henry show, well... this is kind of what you get. Lots of quiet games, and a few solid ones that are based off a big play or two, almost always late in the game. He's worth a shot if you're desperate for a flex, and he'll have a couple of good games the rest of the way. You just won't know when. And he'll probably be on your bench when it happens. And then you'll get sucked into starting him the next week for 12 carries and 18 yards.

His offense sucks.  His role in the offense that sucks sucks.

I bailed.  Unloaded him for Kittle and I think I got the steal of the century.

This is the week, gentleman! If you aren't going to play him this week, just cut him.

Because you'll hate him even more when you bench him and then the Red Zone Channel jumps to Buff/Tenn at midfield and the host says "And now we're gonna take you to Buffalo. Its been a quiet year so far for Derrick Henry ... and then this happened. From 60 yards out the big man takes it to the house untouched to extend the Titans lead to 17-0 in Buffalo."
I totally read this in the hosts voice and it sounded exactly like what he'll say.

I love that this should be the week of Flu's return. Yet another reason I think the running game gets rolling. I'll be curious if the Lewis and Henry owners love Flu by the end of the game. I'm missing Sandwich the TE this year and it all seems perfect to have Flu step in as the third or fourth stringer everyone (even the opposing team's fans) roots for. He's all heart and hustle and....hopefully we see him play some FB and get 3 carries

I'm really excited to start henry week 1. The titans don't have their all pro tackle jack conklin but they should be fine.

Oh crap, their other pro bowl tackle taylor lewan just got hurt. And their backup right tackle Dennis Kelly. And one of the best blocking tight ends in the league, delanie walker.  And their quarterback.  Well, that's ok, at least they're only playing the dolphins.  Oops, they're a top 7 run defense.  Maybe the game flow will favor them.  Nope, two hours of lightning delays. Then two more.  The guy who is supposed to wear people down gets all but benched when they're behind and the defense is totally rested but not before getting a 62 yard touchdown run called back on a tickytack penalty away from the play.

Ok, well, i'm still mostly excited for week 2. I mean he should be able to have a good game without mariotta. Gabbert should contribute in the passing game, right?  Oh,  117 passing yards.  Sweet. Well they're down 2 pro bowl tackles and one of their backups has some kind of virus that will make him miss multiple weeks, they've lost their tight end for the season, but who else could they lose?  Oh, their fullback. Are they at least playing a top defense?  Yeah the Texans.

But maybe week 3 will be easier.  I heard lewan might play.  Who are they playing? The Jaguars?  Well, they're an elite defense, but at least they're known as more of a pass defense and are only number 6 against the run. And they should have a healthy gabbert. Oh wait he left mid game with a concussion.  Well, let's throw Mariota back out there even though he's still injured.  On to week 4.

And week 4 looks great.  The defending super bowl champions and the number one overall run defense in the nfl.  They're still down walker but that's not changing.  Their fullback and backup tackle are still out. And Mariota still not right. But lewan and conklin are starting to get healthy and are finally able to play.

Think about all of that.  And if that 62 yard touchdown run hadn't been called back, what would derrick Henry's yards per carry be?  4.1.

So here we are, on the other side of the worst possible start, and they've just finished playing 4 top run defenses in games where they didn't have a threat of a passing game and are somehow 3-1, giving the Jaguars their only loss and the superbowl champions their second.

And now they face the bills.

The bills aren't even an easy run defense. They're allowing 3.9 yards a carry and only one back has even 50 yards against them this year.

But compared with the murderer's row before this?

They've just added two pro bowl or all pro tackles, their backup right tackle, their fullback, and their quarterback is getting healthier.

This might not be "the game", but it's the first time they're going to be close to full strength in a game against an average opponent. It's the first time i've even considered starting him since week 1.

Great post. You’ve given me renewed hope.
Agreed.  Things are starting to come together for a healthy run offense.  I, like alot of owners, started him wk 1 and have stuck him on the bench since.  Im not starting him this week but am hopeful he will turn it around.

I am hopeful he will have his time to shine this season but not sure it is this week yet. Have both him and Dion and starting Dion at the moment.

Just picked him up off the WW (frustrated owner dropped him this week) as my #4 behind Gurley, Collins and Thompson.  Is there anything to see here and is he anything more then bench filler?  I haven’t been paying any attention to him the last 2 years as he had been kept.

Love this. All my thoughts in one.  It's gonna happen... hopefully everyone isn't left watching from the sidelines.

I was very high in him this off-season and missed out on him in my draft (####### Kenyan ####### Drake). I am aggressively trying to acquire him now.

he said it was standard
Gotcha.

AP is an interesting play this week. You gotta think he wants to stick it to NO in a big way. And he is a guy you should never dismiss. Add a solid offensive line and maybe this could be a big upset in the Superdome.

But conventional thinking has Washington playing catch-up most of the day.

Hmm. I just snagged him too. Pondering him over Peterson or Thompson whom I have both in standard....
Saw him sitting on the FA wire and with the news that Gio is out 2-4 it was an easy drop and pick up. Wth... too bad I have so many other better options like Lynch, Ingram, Brieda, and Hyde. Two RB's sit. Funny thing is, I can see Henry having a stellar fantasy stat game breaking a long one, probably late 3rd / 4th quarter when the TEN D shuts them down.

This is how you talk yourself into one more week.  One more.  No this week.  I mean this week.

I think he has to go up.  I just don't know how much.  He doesn't add a lot to the passing game.  Lewis has looked better to date.  You can buy low, but I'd only be buying REAL low at this point

Henry, AJones, or Cooper for my ppr flex. Leaning towards Jones since his star is headed up and I’d love to see positive consistency from the other two. Henry is intriguing for expected positive game script but just not sure I can trust him.

I think you're supposed to ask those questions in the Assistant coach forum.

I'm not starting Henry anywhere, and I have a handfull of shares.

Not asking a question. Rather giving perspective on my thinking wrt Henry. Maybe helpful to others.

Benching his ### again. He has to score a touchdown to be fantasy relevant. Over / Under on this game is 40 points. That's 5-6 touchdowns if the thing ends up going over. If he goes off, I'm going to trade him. My other options are LeSean McCoy or Antonio Callaway.

Going to go with Callaway since the Browns should be playing from behind, lots of passing.

Sounds like a majority consensus saying NO to Henry, a few saying yes to this game - it's now or never, and some with a hope and prayer. His few big, long runs linger in our memory, while most of the time we're teased into more disappointment. He is intriguing this week, today. Nahhhh I can't do it.

Ingram for me. Henry is very iffy, but a swing for the fences player this week in my book. I'm starting him in one DFS with TEN D. Ingram in regular fantasy.
I plan on keeping Ingram in too. But Buffalo is a tasty matchup for a team that has very quietly defeated two of the top four finalists from last year.

And Fred made a great post above which clearly has me vacillating.

Hope everyone enjoys cutting/benching Henry after this letdown, then watching him bust a 77-yard garbage time touchdown next week. It's the Derrick Henry Experience.
