RB Derrick Henry, BAL (5 Viewers)

Mortensen reported the Titans made Henry available at the deadline, but nobody meet their price.
Yeah, @zamboni posted a link. I know it's Mort and all but it still seems so unlikely, mostly due to how cheap and young he is and with so little depth behind Lewis while they are still in the hunt for the division.

I guess maybe they could floated a 1st round price tag to see if anyone would bite.

Or it's possible that he's just been a big disappointment and they are ready to move on. The lack of production does provide some evidence, as does the feature of Lewis on MNF.

Again, they are in the hunt for the division with little to no depth behind Lewis. Certainly no one who has demonstrated ability on Sundays.

Henry is a disappointment so far this season but he has also clearly flashed a lot of talent coming into this season.

I don't think a team with playoff aspirations, and they have them without question, makes that move unless the asking price is prohibitively expensive/too good to pass up (e.g. Amari Cooper).

It makes sense. Lewis was featured last week.

Never underestimate teams' ability to screw things up. Henry is a legit talent, but the Titans (who have a lackluster offense) are ready to roll with Lewis.

Complete idiocy, but it would be in Henry's best interest so I hope it happens in the offseason. Very possible, IMO.

It's clear he is nothing more than the big back in a ####ty offense. Maybe Mariota turns it around now that he's healthy. I'm not holding out hope.

I missed big on Henry and J. Williams this year. Win some, lose some.

I can completely see it happening this off-season but it sends a terrible message to the locker room in-season when they are in the hunt for the division. The Titans aren't that good from the front office down but they're not the Raiders.

What holds me back from going after him is at the end of the day, the Titans know what they have- they see him practice and play every week. They went out and paid good money for Dion Lewis- who earlier in this thread/page people mentioned he has a bad injury history... I have addressed this a few things but Dion is very mistakenly labeled injury prone. He has a couple fluke injuries, nothing that would make me uneasy owning him. The only thing I don't like about Lewis is his age.

Back to Henry and TEN. The fact that they don't give him the ball is very puzzling and makes me think that there is more to this than any of us know. Maybe Bri has more inside information. That missing key point is the reason why I'm a little reluctant to buy

Yeah I started into this off-season on the "Lewis is a fragile CoP" bandwagon but the Titans, Lewis and this thread eventually swayed my opinion. I had Lewis.higjer on my draft board but still was expecting Henry to perform much better than he has to this point.

I still think about t is more of a situation where Henry is a bad fit for the scheme rather than a bad (or even average) player.  He has flashed game changing talent multiple times and he pretty much single handedly beat the Chiefs in the playoffs last season. He can't simply be bad at playing RB.

Bad fit for the scheme or not I would love to see him get 4 quarters of lead back work once or twice this season. I could be wrong but he does seem to get a lot of his work in obvious running and short yardage situations. That can artificially deflate Y/A (just like draws in 3&18 can inflate it).

I agree, he doesn't fit a spread offensive scheme really. We see backs like Jordan Howard (and now Henry) falling out of favor in today's NFL. Which is interesting... Henry and Howard have identical BMIs and similar playing styles.

I mean we're at the "crap or get off the pot" moment with regards to his career. He's going to be 25 in 2 months, so he will be an "old" 25 year old to start 2019, if he is on the Titans. If he is traded, or whatever, this off-season then he is hopefully going to a better situation. With some decent RBs in this draft and 2020 looking like a pretty deep draft for RB, it just seems like Henry is going to get potentially drafted over wherever he goes, and ends up in a RBBC situation, never getting his shot.

I just don't see a bright future for him. Certainly he may still have a productive career, and one could argue he's entering his prime, but the fact that he hasn't really done much so far is really interesting. If he was such a great athlete/running back I feel like we definitely would see him getting the ball more. We see Ingram and Kamara co-existing... and the NFL is a copy cat league. There is no reason he can't... unless the coach is completely unwilling to use him and/or he's just not as good as we think he is.

Henry is a much better receiver than Howard by an order of magnitude. I think, for a back his size he doesn't run as well between the tackles as I would hope, which is a concern but he is great in the open field and can truck most DBs when given the chance. He seems much better suited to the evolving NFL than Howard.

Mind you I really like Howard. I think he is a better overall (more complete) runner than Henry but I think Henry just has a much more rounded game overall.

Derrick Henry rushed 11 times for 58 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans' Week 10 rout of the Patriots.

Scoreless for nearly the entire first half of the season, Henry's TDs are now coming in bunches with four over his last three games. He hit pay dirt on a goal-line score late in the first half, then danced in from a Wildcat formation in the fourth before icing the game with multiple clock-killing runs. Henry was still out-touched by Dion Lewis 22 to 11 and has no passing-game role. Henry will remain a touchdown-or-bust flex option when the Titans visit Indianapolis next.

Nov 11 - 5:28 PM

It almost appeared like someone reminded them Henry was the top back in the 4th Q last year. Lewis came in a little bit, but ya gotta go with the big dog with a lead in the fourth, especially if he's fresh. Good luck to a tired D wrapping him up.

Amazing you brought this up because I just dropped that bum Howard for Henry. Howard has cost me for the last time. Done.

Henry to be more involved this week per Vrabel, LaFleur, Mariota, Lewis, and Henry.

This is the only way to beat the Texans. Their DL is too fantastic to allow them to pin their ears back.

He had 18 carries in the first meeting and Lewis has 14, together nearly 100 yards which is not good per carry, but they won with the benefit of a trick ST play and the Texans D not able to dominate.

There were compliments that he has been running hard for weeks and Vrabel mentioned that he "turned it on" like he wanted him to.

I think the Titans will bomb and get shellacked on Monday night. I think they'll mess up their matchups on the Texans WRs and Houston will get an early lead. Lewis will then play more than Henry as they're in their pass often offense. Ideally, yes run Henry often and make Watt and Clowney and Mercilus tackle the big fella over n over, but I think the Titans are so ripe and the Texans smell blood. I figure one loss and the Titans no longer have a playoff chance and the Texans would love to be the team to do that.

The Titans can not match the Texans for points unless they use Taywan Taylor a lot. LaFleur said things Titans fans wanted to hear but he's only really used him once this year. He's a special WR (IMO) and the Titans could have a very nice passing game with Taylor and Davis and Jonnu's improved play, but LaFleur has let me down more than he's come through.

I'm thinking a Texans whipping and JJ please don't hurt Marcus.

Henry might be the most poorly utilized player by a coaching staff in the entire league. They have a mack truck that can break off 80+yd TD runs and they just keep him parked in the garage for most of the games. I'm not a Titans fan or Henry owner but it's just mindboggling that he doesn't get more carries.

I cant help but keep trying to figure out a decent trade for him

I feel like his value is at an all time low, so his owners wouldnt be willing to trade him low, but his usage is terrible

If a Henry owner could get a 2nd rd rookie pick for him they should jump on it.   As for buying, I wouldn't give a 2nd rd rookie pick for him.

Dr. Dan said:
that's where I'm at- I dont want to give a 2nd. As of now I've offered Barber and a 3rd
I would definitely trade Henry for an early 3rd if it was a devy league and the draft included both underclassman and current year rookies (some leagues separate the two drafts) and would be tempted in a standard dynasty league.

I would buy Henry for a 3rd in a heartbeat, but I already have him. I imagine that’s the setup in a lot of leagues; guys who are on the lower side of the spectrum on him have sold already. I’d probably buy for a late 2 but likely not an early one.

i don’t play devy though

If I was offered Henry for my 2nd in the 2019 class (even a high 2nd), I'd have a huge smile on my face as I'm pushing the accept button.

That's a steal, IMO. Number one, because of Henry's raw talent & number two, the status of the 2019 class as things stand right now (mediocre at best).

Henry's outlook is worse right now than any of the projected 2nd round rookie draft players. they have a shot at playing.

henry is a decent lotto shot for people but it's clear he doesnt fit the TEN scheme. Much like Jordan Howard doesnt fit in CHI

In my head, I've got them both penciled in as traded or the OC is changed so the new O suits them. Howard is a decent player and his stats are awful most weeks.

I think the Bears are trying to emulate the Pats. Cohen is White and Howard is Blount(prior) or Michel. The Titans just seem lost

This is the only reason I'm trying to trade for him. Maybe some team out there wants to trade for a guy like Henry. My money is on a team like the Saints, Bucs, Ravens.

I like the Bama succession plan in NO. But he'll probably get banished to DC or Buffalo.

Situation is the great equalizer. Henry has one more season with the Titans, max.

Try getting a RB of his caliber in the 2nd round of the 2019 class. Acquiring Henry is a long-term play, but the 2019 class makes it a no-brainer, IMO.

I look for a few RBs of equal or greater value to be available in the 2nd round of rookie drafts because of all the WR talent.  For example, I would much rather have someone like Benny Snell Jr or Eligah Holyfield over Henry and Weber is no worse than Henry.  There are a couple more that could fall to the 2nd rd that are better than Henry.

We disagree with "all the WR talent". The WR class isn't nearly as good as it was hoped to be.

I'd take Henry for any pick in the 2nd round of the 2019 class & be thankful. His situation will change.

If you're high on the upcoming class (which isn't the norm), then maybe you look at things differently.

I'm not high on the RBs in this draft class but there are a few that are better than Henry who could fall to the 2nd rd.  I like the WRs in this class quite a bit, especially AJ Brown, N'Keal Harry, Marquise Brown, Kelvin Harmon, and Anthony Johnson.  Some love Metcalf as well.

I think his liability in the passing game will always be an issue for Henry owners no matter what situation he finds himself in.  Being a two down back is bad for two reasons, teams key on him in the early downs and he trots to the sidelines on passing downs, thus limiting his effectiveness IMO.

Henry might not be a great receiver, but he's better than given credit for.

We're simply a long ways apart on this class.

Several RBs in the 2nd better than Henry? I just can't see it & I think the NFL draft will show this is a down class for virtually every position.

The receptions are situational. Henry won't be with the Titans in 2020 if not earlier. What he's doing now in the passing game with that offense the way it's currently constructed is deceiving at best.

The NFL draft will be a good indicator of how strong the WR class is & it's definitely not going to be what many people thought this time last year.

Things can change & often do, but as it stands right now, the 2019 class is looking mediocre at best (& I'm far from the only one with that opinion).

Henry is a 250 lb running back than is not effective in the passing game.  He won't be no matter what team he's on and will always be a two down back, thus limiting his fantasy appeal.  I think it's time all of us come to that realization.

Also, the top RBs are unlikely to get out of the 1st round. It's a down class so given the dynamics of the RB position in FF, thinking you're going to find a steal in the 2nd is REALLY optimistic in this particular class.

If not a RB that falls to the 2nd I'm sure there is a WR or two that I'd rather have than two down Derrick Henry.  Besides, there are a couple RBs that will fall to the 2nd.  Perhaps not Snell, but there is a great chance someone like Holyfield or Weber fall to the 2nd.  Perhaps even Rodney Anderson with all his injury issues.  Players like Harris (mid-to-late), Love, (late) and Montgomery (probably early to mid) will go in the 1st rd.

You're underselling his receiving ability.

Forget the Titans & how they use him. If you acquire Henry for a 2nd, it's a long-term play.

You're betting on his raw ability compared to what you're likely to find in the 2nd round of the upcoming class.

Fair enough, but you weren't saying that last year were you? I don't know, just asking.

Henry is still young & is currently in a bad situation.

Things change. I'll bet on his talent if it's against a 2019 2nd.

In fact, his situation WILL change. There's no ifs, ands, or buts.

The chances are Henry is getting a feature back job in 2020 (at the latest).

It's just going to take some patience.

Fair enough, but you weren't saying that last year were you? I don't know, just asking. - No, but I did admit yesterday that I was wrong about him.  I realize at the end of the day he's a two down back with limited fantasy appeal, even if he gets goal line touches.  Those type of guys will never make a difference to your fantasy success.

Henry is still young & is currently in a bad situation. -- I think all situations could be bad for Henry if he trots off the field on 3rd down.

Things change & I'll bet on his talent if it's against a 2019 2nd.  -- He could carry some running talent on another team, but there will always be some scat back limiting his fantasy appeal.  I'm not even convinced about his goal line ability.  Henry sure gets stuffed a lot for such a big back.

2nd round picks aren't especially that valuable. It's a hit or miss dart throw round, even though some don't admit that. Next year, the 2nd round should have crap at RB. I'd take Henry over any 2nd rounder. By far.
