RB Derrick Henry, BAL (1 Viewer)

With the departure of J Smith and Davis, you think there's a chance of getting Henry more involved in the passing game?

I don't think there's been a back to compare to Henry overall so to suddenly compare him to Ricky or Jamal is a stretch.

I confidently predict he's an old TD vulture.

When is he old? That's a gut call and to each their own. Trade him for enough that your return can cover you being way wrong but...it's gotta be a gut call.

Gurley and Gordon are quickly extra. RBs success is short lived, no doubt.

I'd give him 1500 in 2021 and 1200 in 2022 if you're looking for a prediction. The Titans line is too stout for their to be too much of a decline. Most telling for me has been since Lewan, they've averaged around EIGHT yards per carry around the corner.

How can Henry not have success with that stellar lead block? Conversely, Lewan is coming back from injury and....maybe he'll slow down and Henry will. I think there's still time to ride this train but Lewan is also on a best ever type ride right now so watch him too to hedge your bets.

Murray led the NFL in rushing, Henry 2 or 3 times. What was a bad year? 1400 yards? Lewan has led the way as well as any lineman and could possibly enter a hallowed ground of sorts and be a 'best ever' type some day. Tackles are so talented nowadays, it seems like they gotta play ten years to even be considered best ever conversation. He's on the path...

He’s one of those guys you ride until the wheels fall off if you’re a contender.  I think he could be one those RBs that is great when he is 30.

Right now, what is Henry's value in dynasty?  I'm trying to work out a deal involving him and have no feel.
This was a trade made in my 1 dynasty league late in the 2020 season

Nantucket gave up Drake, Kenyan ARI RB; Kirk, Christian ARI WR; Thomas, Michael NOS WR; Higbee, Tyler LAR TE; Year 2021 Round 1 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2021 Round 4 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2021 Round 5 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2021 Round 6 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2021 Round 7 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2022 Round 1 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2022 Round 4 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2022 Round 5 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2022 Round 6 Draft Pick from Nantucket; Year 2022 Round 7 Draft Pick from Nantucket

Montana gave up Henry, Derrick TEN RB; Peoples-Jones, Donovan CLE WR; Year 2021 Round 4 Draft Pick from Montana; Year 2022 Round 4 Draft Pick from Montana

or something like that
Yeah. Something like that. Two tears in a bucket...

I have really nothing to add about Derrick Henry. That's beyond my pay grade. Depends on your roster. Anything after the 1.03 this year is suspect, in my opinion. Getting two mid-to-late round firsts doesn't sound like enough unless you're in a rebuild. I'd try and get younger, but who's paying premium prices for a twenty-seven year-old? Not many. Best to ride him out. Thankfully, the champion in our league has both he and Kamara (I say "thankfully" quite ruefully) and is going to easily make another run this year, so that question is out the window in the league I'm currently in.

I agree, ride him out if you're a contender.  Unless you get a ridiculous offer.

Julio Jones trade: Who are the winners and losers?

Excerpt:

Winners

Derrick Henry: The Titans' offense has been all about Henry for the last two seasons. They rode him all the way to that AFC Championship Game in 2019 and he ran for a league-high 2,027 yards last season. Adding Jones to the mix means Henry's job just became a whole lot easier. Henry is accustomed to running against boxes stacked with eight and nine defenders. There's no way a team can devote that many bodies to stopping the run and keeping him from going off against single coverage. Henry produced consistently when the Titans were relying on younger, less accomplished receivers on the outside. Just watch what he does with a teammate as dangerous as Jones also delivering some serious damage.

Hartitz: 9 Fantasy Football Takeaways from the Falcons Trading Julio Jones to the Titans

Excerpt:

2. DERRICK HENRY REMAINS LOCKED IN AS A TOP-FIVE FANTASY RB

The only RBs I’d draft ahead of Henry at the moment are Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook and Saquon Barkley. With that said: They’re all in the same tier and worthy of similar consideration at the top of fantasy drafts of all shapes and sizes. Targeting pass-catching RBs is usually the rule in fantasyland; Henry has proven time and time again that he’s a walking-talking enigma as both a real life and fantasy RB.

Yes, because he isn't a young 27.  That tip of the curve is probably going to start descending sooner than we think.
He’s also unlike anything we’ve ever really seen before. I know the history, but if anyone is going to buck the trend, I’d say it’s going to be 22. I think he has at least two more seasons of elite left in him. If you’re rebuilding, sure, go ahead and move him now. But I wouldn’t be selling if I’m contending now or plan to be in the very near future. Remember, while he’s getting monstrous workloads now, his first three years in the league he only had 500 total carries.

I use to curse the coaching staff for that, but it did save some tread on his monster tires.

I'm a sucker for history and noticeable patterns.

Here are the yards the season after the 2000:

OJ Simpson - 1125

Eric Dickerson - 1234

Barry Sanders - 1491

Terrell Davis - 211

Jamal Lewis - 1006

Chris Johnson - 1364

Adrian Peterson - 1266

I'll be more worried about it next season, but I'm giving him a pass on the usage at this point.

He never hit 200 touches until 2018.  It's not like he's Eddie George coming off of 8 300 carry seasons.

He's a very safe pick this year IMO.  He's not been a guy that's missed a lot of time.  He missed 1 game in 2019 that he could have played in, but the result was irrelevant so they let him sit.  He missed 1 game as a rookie.  He doesn't have any real competition.

The workload concern and the fact that they added Julio--and therefore may pass a bit more--are the biggest knocks on him.  A guy who consistently sees the most stacked boxes in the NFL got an upgrade to the passing game.

Will be incredibly happy to have him on any of my teams this year.

Derrick Henry rushed 35 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns in the Titans' Week 2 win over the Seahawks.

Henry also uncharacteristically caught all six of his targets for 55 additional yards in the passing game. The Big Dog was caged in the first half and had a slow Week 1, but he absolutely buried the Seattle defense after the break with three second-half scores from nine, 60, and one yard(s) out. The first one from nine yards away had Henry almost dead to rights in the backfield before he reversed course and cut back across the field. The 60-yarder was ripped up the left sideline. Henry fantasy managers can thank him for their Week 2 wins. He gets the Colts in Week 3.

It’s like getting to watch Gladiator each Sunday, dude out there just man-beasting his way through all challengers, yelling at the naysayers “are you not entertained?!!?”  I am, King, I am entertained to the fullest

It’s really nuts, no other RB in the league can handle half the work he puts in.

Derrick Henry has nine receptions on ten targets through Week 2.

Headed into 2021, Henry had three games of at least four targets. He's had four and six targets in Tennessee's first two games of the season. It's an unexpected role change for Henry, and one that could give him the PPR upside that he's sorely lacked during his dominant rushing years. The Big Dog caught all six of his Week 2 targets against the Seahawks, though fantasy managers can't expect that kind of fantasy-friendly back-and-forth game script to unfold every week. A horrid Titans defense, however, could force the offense to push the pace. It's possible Darrynton Evans' (knee) return from injured reserve near the end of September could scale back Henry's pass-game involvement.

I’ve always wondered why he’s so uninvolved in the passing game because when he is used he’s at worst capable in those situation and at best you get that truck out in space and good things happen

Pretty sure yesterday was partly due to firkser being out, but it’s definitely underutilized. Then again, I’m not sure even the King could hold up all season if he got 6 receptions and all the carries every game.

Let's find out.

Signed,

They used at least one very nice screen pass where they got a convoy out in front of him and he made an excellent gain in the first half. He looked smooth. I agree there is room for more of that. He's no Aaron Jones, but you don't want to be solo tackling him when he's at full speed.

Derrick Henry rushed 28 times for 113 yards and a two-point conversion in Tennessee's Week 3 win over the Colts, adding three receptions for 31 yards.

It could have been a bigger day but the Titans had two massive turnovers deep in Colts territory that robbed Henry of a number of red zone carries. Henry didn't bust out any obscenely long gains but delivered a series of body blows to an overworked Colts defense and helped salt away the game late. Heading into Week 4's game against a reeling Jets squad that has barely led all season, Henry is a good bet to lead fantasy RB rankings across the board.

Little concerned he's on pace for 453 caries, 68 catches, a 521 touch pace.

Of course, that is a 2595 yard pace with 17 TD's.

ETA: I can't imagine he sees less work with AJ Brown injured.

Derrick Henry rushed 33 times for 157 yards and a touchdown, adding two catches on two targets for 20 yards in the Titans' loss to the Jets.

With A.J. Brown and Julio Jones sidelined, Henry looked like he was poised for a huge workload – and he delivered. The Big Dog had a monstrous 35 touches and 177 total yards. Henry was the RB1 entering this week, and it looks like he's going to hold the crown for at least another week barring a legendary performance from another back. Henry is a high-end RB1 as usual for Week 5.

Yeah he has broken some huge plays on receptions in the past. At the worst capable is a great way to phrase it.

After a game like yesterday, I'd sell at a buck twenty!
I wouldn't. 1.20 isn't a Godfather offer at all. I would easily buy at 1.20 in the right situation.

The usage pace is insane though. I imagine they would tone it down if Brown and Julio were healthy. So looks like higher usage not lower.

I don't want to look it up on my phone right now but can someone confirm his pace for touches is > 2020 no? What about just rushes?

They had week 4 bye last year, but he’s currently right at one more carry per game this year over last

We’re watching history, the dude is a freak. I’ll believe he’s getting too many touches when I see it have a negative effect on him. Someday it will hit me like a truck and I’ll be stuck with him, but owning him is just too fun.

It reminds me of the Brady is too old mantra. Sooner or later it will happen but ride the train while you still can.
