RB Devin Neal, NO (2 Viewers)

can he catch?
Yes.
Soph - 21 for 183
Jr - 25 for 217
Sr - 24 for 254 - 10.6 YPC

Makes a lot of catches with his body and "Small hands" were basically the only knocks in his profile for receiving, but it never showed up as a detriment on film IMO. Improved each year as a receiving back, especially his senior year. Runs good routes with tempo and ability to change speeds to bait defenders. Excellent fluidity and acceleration at break points.

He also wasn't great in pass pro, which I guess we can lump in there as part of his receiving skills because it could limit their desire to put him in there on 3rd downs if he can't at least identify and put a chip on blitzing defenders.

He has the potential to be an every down back though, and was just that for Kansas for nearly three years; breaking most of their schools RB records along the way. Was one of the backs I was surprised fell as far as he did in the draft considering his versatility.

Agree with JohnnyU for redraft he's basically Kamara insurance. Would probably need an injury or very positive game script (eg a blowout) to put up starter points for you. And I doubt the Saints see many blowouts, at least going in their favor haha. Should be owned in every dynasty league though considering his profile and that Kamara is 30 years old now.

I was reading it was his pass pro that has kept him off the field so far this season. I think he is in line for some decent work though. Kamara is no longer a RB who can take 80% of the snaps. His years are showing and he is consistently on the injury report. The Saints can't realistically give Kamara 20+ touches a game for the rest of the season.

I believe that. Nearly every rookie RB seems to need to work on blocking; Neal just maybe a little more than average. But it also seems like something the majority of guys pick up relatively quickly, at least to a competant/good enough level where they won't get their QB killed. He's like 215lbs and nearly 6' so there shouldn't be a size issue. Hopefully he's made some progress there through training camp and these first 7 weeks.

I was talking redraft...
Should always clarify. I suppose he’s only viable to the Kamara owner in redraft, but probably just barely.

As should you. There are plenty of dynasty leagues where Neal wasn't a worthy roster stash until after Kendre's injury. Not sure how many guys you had to battle to get him back, but it only took a 1.5% bid in my 24x12.

6th round pick with limited juice that failed to make a case for early playing time with Kamara and Miller healthy. I'm interested enough to take a look, but if he's even with or behind Estime, there are comparable RB stashes available on better offenses. Kamara's age makes Neal interesting enough for now though.

Multiple Neal dynasty owner here. Looking forward to seeing what I may or may not have. Obviously the team situation isnt great, but it will be good to see him featured.

MIA has given up the 5th most rushing yards and 8th most receiving yards to opposing RBs. It’s a good matchup.

He got about what I expected. 17 touches for 69 yards. 3 of them catches. Wonder if he'll be the guy going forward or if AK forces his way back.

Could have been better or worse. Didn't learn much,

Not sure we can trust him next week at this point.

Potential is still huge.

For some inexplicable reason (because it's the saints?), Neal is still availalble in my 0.5 ppr league. I'd have to drop Tyrone Tracy or Tony Pollard or maybe Q. Johnston. Tracy has a pretty good schedule left after his bye (but he's Tracy and doens't get goalline carries). Rest of schedule is decent after this bye (WAS, MIN, @LV). Pollard is eh (and his ROS is tough, @SF, KC, NO), but I've had to start both of these multiple times this season due to lack of depth. I could drop Johnson, I have K. Boutte and J. Jennings behind. Herbert is hurt and was falling off a cliff anyway (Joe Alt I think went down?). I have rarely started Boutte or Jennings (granted both have been injured). I've started Johnston a lot as a result but has been a hold your nose, whew got lucky because of the TD kind of guy. I admit after this week's bye, he schedule looks good (TEN, @IND, CHI).

Leaning towards Pollald. Thoughts?

Devin Neal rushed 19 times for 70 yards and a touchdown in the Saints’ Week 14 win over the Bucs, adding a 14-yard reception.

Neal’s three-yard score to cap off the Saints’ opening drive was the first touchdown of his career. Excellent stuff for fantasy managers taking the FLEX plunge, but Neal then surprisingly lost two more rushing scores to not-exactly-dual threat Tyler Shough. Neal did out-touch backup Evan Hull 20-2, and he ground out some turf yards in obvious rushing conditions in rainy Tampa weather. Basically, he passed the RB3 assignment, though Alvin Kamara (knee, ankle) could be back for Week 15. If not, Neal will find himself hanging around the top 30 as New Orleans takes on Carolina’s middle-of-the-road run D.

I can't believe that I'm actually considering sitting Kyren Williams (vs DET) this week and starting Neal. Detroit gives up the least points to RBs in my league, and Kyren has been ceding a ton of touches to Corum lately. Meanwhile, Neal is getting almost all the touches and goes against CAR this week.

I know, don't sit your studs. But in the playoffs every year, there's some FA pickup that wins people the championship. Could be Neal this year with his schedule. Of course, this is all assuming Kamara sits.

Is the thought that Kendre Miller will be somewhere else next year? I've been holding on to Miller since his rookie season...waiting to see his moment to shine. But I don't feel like he'll ever get the opportunity.

(1) He’s still on his rookie contract, which won’t expire until after next season.

(2) This regime’s HC stated Kendre had a clean slate & demonstrated it by using him (fairly effectively) when they had the choices to do otherwise.

As an owner of both Kendre and Neal (in different leagues), I think Kendre has a slight advantage going into next year but will have to prove it in camp & during this next season.

I don't think you can say that yet.........If Neal impresses down the stretch with his opportunity I would expect him to be in the driver's seat for next year.
You’re correct in that I can’t say that with any certainty. But I can offer an opinion based on my viewing Kendre as the more physical inside runner. In the end, it comes down to camp/early-season performance (as I mentioned).

Now, will Kamara still be there?
