RB from week 4. A look back (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
Let's take a look back at how they were rated, what we thought of their performances, should we panic or relax...all that fun stuff.

I'll post a link to my thread from last week. A lot of of the RB on my cheatsheet rankings wre very close to what FBG had with a few exceptions. RB Match up to Avoid/Exploit week 4

One of the things I noticed was that a majortiy of the RB that started this weekend had an acceptable or better performance. There were a few that disappointed. Let's start with the RB in the top 12-15.

Chester Taylor: This was a rough game and probably left a big hole on the starting roster for most owners. I am guessing probably 50% of the owners that had Chester in their starting line up lost this weekend. I have not been overly impressed with the guy but the Vikings are so committed to running the ball that you have to play him. But Hutch and the left side of that OL couldn't move the Bills around and the Bills do not have the best rush defense and Takeo Spikes was out this weekend IIRC. 3 points isn't gonna get it done.

Warrick Dunn: 2nd week in a row he has disappointed. Norwood had 100 yds and a score but Dunn is going to remain the starter there for this season at least.

Frank Gore: he was banged up and SF fell way behind. MRob didn't light it up either so Gore owners have to feel good going forward but a pretty mediocre day for Gore.

3 more RBs really stunk it up but we had them ranked fairly low going into the weekend anyways.

Fred Taylor: Awful...just awful

Jamal Lewis: FF owners have to be using this guy as a RB3 at this point...very inconsistent numbers from Lewis. I know it's the Chargers but LT ran for almost 100 on the Ravens stout "D".

Maurice Morris: I guess MoMo hype can now settle down. Shaun should be back in a couple of weeks. I like what Madden said..."running against a defense in the 1st quarter is a lot different than running mop up in the 3rd and 4th quarter"...he spills out some good stuff once in awhile.

And then we had some that really shined. In the top 12-15 RB match ups those that stood out were...

Larry Johnson: Around 30 points this weekend, finally a highly projected RB follows thru.

Clinton Portis: Owners have to like what they are seeing. Against JAX??? He has almost all his trade value back. I would think he might jump up in the weekly 250 forward segment.

Kevin Jones: 2 TDs, 100+ yds and 5 receptions for PPR leagues. Major upgrade for him.

Laurence Maroney: I had him #7 on my board this week. I am betting FBG will move him up their weekly cheatsheets from here on in as long as the match up is decent. He still probably is not "starting"...but what's the difference? WHen he gets into and through the hole he is just moving a lot quicker than Dillon. No hate for Dillon owners but Maroney has the best chance at this point of being an RB1 from the rookies this year.

Julius Jones: 120 yds and a TD. This offense is going to be special. You have to pay attention to Glenn and Owens...oh yeah and Witten can tear you up underneath...how can teams commit 7 to the box...they can't! JJ should really have a nice season.

And then there were some RB who really shot past their rankings.

SJax: Nice solid game from him. Seemed like the passing game was going well which opened up the ground game. Both WR had 100 yds and a TD too...wish they could play the Lions every week.

Lamont Jordan: Owners finally have a reason to celebrate.

DeShaun Foster: Fairly average day till he ripped off a 43 yd TD run. Owners will take it any way they can with him right now.

Kevan Barlow: 2 TDs this weekend against the rush challenged defense of the Colts. 4 TDs now on the season for Barlow....he may break his record of 7 at this pace by about week 8. He makes a nice spot start right now. Good bye week filler.

Thomas Jones: Finally gets the ground game cranked up.

What did you see? What do you want to discuss?

I saw Thomas Jones put up much better stats than Reggie Bush, all be it from my bench!

Larry Johnson is a stud. He will have the most points in fantasy football this year.

Steven Jackson sure is getting alot of touches. He should have had another TD. Rams are having a tough time punching it in from the 1.

Ronnie Brown will be a top 5 back this year in ppr leagues. He will have 100+ combined every week, with 4 or 5 catches. As long as he gets 10 TDs that is.

Make a play for LT if you can.

Some of my RB thoughts:

Droughns took full advantage of a great matchup and put up good numbers. Same for LaMont Jordan in the same game.

When the matchup is right, Marion Barber is a very nice RB3 option in a lot of leagues.

Willis McGahee is really running well. His yardage numbers weren't great against the Vikings though he did score but I was very impressed with how he ran. He's showing more assertiveness than he showed for much of last season.

Jamal Lewis looks slllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

As good as Maroney has looked, Dillon is running very well also. I think the Patriots are doing a good job utilizing both of these guys and that could keep Dillon healthy for most, if not all, of the season. Both are RB3 options in many leagues.

I think Maroney is a RB2 at worst right now. He is not playing like a RB3 right now.

I should have said "no worse than RB3 options." I agree Maroney is a RB2 right now.

I didn't see the Raiders game, was Jordans success because they were playing Cleveland or did they do something different after the bye or a combination of both?

As bad as the Raiders were agaisnt SD and Baltimore you gotta figure when they see a Cleveland team they are going to have a better day. They still laid an egg after being up 21-3 in the 1st half...lose 21-0 the rest of the way. I might think Jordan owners that hung on to him can now shop him and get something else this week.

Cleveland. He still had a lot of no gain rushes. Most were when the worst coaching staff in the NFL sent him directly into the opponent's line with no idea of how to formulate a blocking scheme for him. Shell made a not that they would utilize him better. I think they threw to him 1 time.Wow, talk about a progressive offense - :bag:

I can't believe Two still has him... I dumped him for McGahee on the heels of yesterday's game. Even without the big TD run, LaMont still had over a 3.5 YPC average. As I understand it, though, almost all of his yards came in the first half... makes sense that you take a 21 point lead into the locker room and abandon the run after that. :loco:

Re: Jordan, it was some of everything. He had a couple really nice runs in the first half (including the 59 yard TD that was horrible pursuit angles by Cleveland). He also hurt himself (shoulder I think) near the end of the 1st quarter which is why Fargas had some runs.

The trouble is Walter put up what, 75 yards passing? All too often Jordan would get 3-4 on first down, they'd throw an incomplete on 2nd and be left in 3rd and 6 or 7 and not pick it up.

Im most concerned that they STILL havent run ONE screen yet. The two passes Jordan got were on broken plays where Walter semi-pitched it out to the left.

I started Jordan with Tiki on a bye, but it made me nervous as hell, and I hope to not do it again soon.

KC doesn't play San Fran every week, obviously LJ is good I just don't see him being #1 in fantasy points this year but I do see him as a top 5 RB.

:lmao: Bold prediction

Well I have to assume some of the people made up for it if they had S.Moss on their rosters or managed to wheel out other players to counter him a bit. :D

Yes, you are correct. Clinton Portis would be that player for me who picked up the slack from Chester.

Exactly. Chester is an RB2 from his draft point that has carried some owenrs with RB1 issues and there are lots of those...or he has been a guy that compliments LT, Westy, or Rudi just fine to this point in the season...but obviously a lot of owners were burned this weekend by him.

He stunk, but like you said- he is a 2RB. You have to expect there will be days like these for every 2RB. Just hope it doesn't become a trend.
