RB Jahmyr Gibbs, DET (1 Viewer)

Anybody doubting Monty gets all the goal line work and 10-15 TDs?
No, I do not believe he gets all of the goal line work. Most? Yes. Like every other aspect of Gibb’s game, I feel like he’ll just continue to get more and more involved.

I’m not sure about 15, but I could certainly see Montgomery scoring 12.

I play in a SF league so I don't know what 3rd round capital means in most 1QB leagues. I think it is somewhere around RB10-12? Which seems high to me. I would have Monty ranked closer to this than Gibbs. I didn't draft them that way because...value I guess. But empirically that is where the reality always was IMO.

I think Gibbs' value begins closer to RB16-20 and always should have been. But banking on upside almost always rules the d
Sorry late reply.

In my leagues he was a going as RB9, an early third. Before the game it's fair to say I agreed with that consensus opinion and I actually him him in his own tier, after a tier fo two which included Jacobs/Henry. In most of my drafts I hoped for other players to fall to that early third but if not I was comfortable selecting him as RB9, in the third. Early third if my other targets were gone. Put another way I went into every draft hoping for Ridley in the third and if not Gibbs was one of my main targets.

After the game I still had 4 drafts so had to think about where to slot him. I did not really focus on if he was my RB9 or 11, I just did not feel comfortable having him in his own tier any longer above the likes of Mixon, Rhamondre, ETN, Hall, Jones, Walker, Pierce, J Cook, Javonte, Najee, White, Sanders and maybe some I'm missing.

With the exception of Mixon(who I was way lower on then consensus and not interested at his ADP) you had a good shot to get any of those other RB's in the mid 4th. I was in drafts where every one of them except Rhamondre made it to the 5th at least once.Majority of them lasting into the 6th, sometimes mid 7th.

So how that game impacted me was no longer wanting to spend a third on Gibbs, and instead just putting him in that large mix of RB's that could be had in the late 4th into the 6-7th.

If I actually would have ranked him I think I would have only moved him to RB10, one spot behind Rhamondre, but my long winded reply is to illustrate why the ranking vs other RB's is not as important to the tier I moved him down.

And now after watching every team play? I actually regret moving him off his own tier. Just seeing so many of the RB's in this range I moved him down to get solid volume and struggle while Gibbs frankly made it look easy on his limited touches, which will no doubt grow. I love volume, especially in the passing game, but this time I'm feeling like I I should have given him more credit for how dang easy he made it look and what that means to his upside with just a little uptick in usage.

Thought this was funny.

Will #Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs get more touches Week 2!?

“Well, probably not,” said Dan Campbell. “Now that everybody’s asking, no. I had planned on doing it, but the more people ask, the more I think we oughta just pull back.

“We love Gibbs. Yes, he’s going to get more touches.

Is that a real quote?

Man I love MCDC. I feel like running through a wall for him right now. Even if he never hears about it.

This is like when the wife asks when I'm going to trim my beard. "Well, every time you ask I add another month to the timeline."

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs will play a “bigger role” in Week 2 against the Seahawks.
Gibbs played 19 snaps in Week 1 and was out-carried 21-7 by David Montgomery. The rookie looked electric on every touch, so it makes sense for Detroit to up his snap count as the season goes on. Gibbs will be a risky RB3 until we see the increased workload come to fruition.

debated benching him for Puka or Dotson... then I read they are unveiling the Barry Sanders statue today... hoping this shoots Gibbs out of a cannon

He looks fine when he touches the ball, but at this point the Lions seem happy to let Montgomery be the guy and just use Gibbs as a basic change-of-pace option and nothing more. It's early, etc, but for now the Lions seem content to talk a good game about Gibbs and not much else.

Looks like a backup to me
Can't kep rolling him out as a Starter every week, now firmly a Platoon RB2/3/Flex role, gotta see if perhaps Monty getting so many touched this week wears him down

Gonna be difficult to know when to pull the trigger on Gibbs

-I misread him being super involved in the passing game...with a hole at WR2/3 for Detroit and a rookie TE, I was thinking Gibbs would be an easy weekly 4-5 targets and get some cheap receiving points early in the season, boy was I wrong on that one

But the Lions are closing in on going 2-0, don't think they give 2 flying squirrel nuts what we FF players think they should do.

Only good news here for Gibbs owners is that the Lions list. If they're 2-0, nobody's cranky about their first-round pick being wasted. Maybe they at least get a few questions about it now.

Today should have been very different. With less than a minute left in the 1st half, he ran a Texas route from inside their own 10 and Goff hit him in stride. He had a runway and it was likely going to be between a 30-90 yard play. He turned his head up field too early and dropped it. Late in the 4th he ran a wheel route and there wasn’t a soul around him. Goff didn’t see him.

Lucky for me my league awards pts for 'should haves' :)

So your saying it was even worse of a performance

Sometimes i listen to the homers on this board too much and i really wish i had that gibbs pick back...
Was it really the homers pushing him up? I mean I know Jon was but he’s over the moon on everything Lions and I don’t think anyone takes him all that serious. It wasn’t Lions fans driving his ADP to the third round in fantasy, that’s for sure. Still absolutely hate the draft pick, same for Campbell. Needed pass rush desperately and it showed up big this week.

I don't know it felt like a lot of the lions fans on here were predicting an easy 1500 yard season (jon's crazy prediction aside)

Yeah he was bad, he ran the wrong route on the pick 6 too. Campbell said it was on him, not Goff. He’s got a long ways to go.

Maybe, I guess I don’t know for sure. Outside of dynasty, I wasn’t touching him this year. It just seemed like there was a lot of hype for him in general though, I mean look at his ADP. RBs drafted that high typically do deliver and it’s a long season but he’s got a lot still left to prove before he can be played for fantasy.

Plus he's killing everyone rolling him out every week never knowing

Like you said obvious growing pains, probably overhyped, and is probably still going to be eased in over the coming weeks

After seeing #1 and #2, it makes you wonder what goes into these grades.
I have stopped wondering. Whatever it is they clearly are out of synch with reality.

As far as Gibbs play so far its only been 2 games. He is a rookie. They tend to make mistakes. Gibbs has a different skill set than a lot of RB as a tweener RB/WR so there is more he has to learn and master than a more traditional RB and that learning curve may take longer.

The Lions have a quality RB in all phases in Montgommery, so no need to rush him into opportunities either.

He is clearly very talented and I am sure that will start showing up in the box score eventually. Similar to McCaffrey he may not truly break out until his second season.

I understand people are dissapointed right now and maybe had too high of expectations/investment as part of that. But be paitient. I think eventually he puts it all together.

Look at James Cook for example. He didnt do all that much as a rookie. Just had some flashes here and there, but he seems to be doing well now with a year under his belt and an offseason conditioning program to help him improve.

I will remind people again that the rookie season for good RB is their worst statistical performance of their 1st six seasons in the league on average.

Explain to me how he is 'clearly' NFL talented. Lots of 1st round rbs stink

He has speed and ability that few RB can match.

If that isnt clear then Im not sure what to tell you.

So you say...heard that story a hundred times over for 1st round rb failures...especially ones that are taken too early

I'm not saying he won't work out just questioning how you can be so sure of yourself that he is clearly an nfl talent

He looked really good week 1, I think he was top 3 in broken tackles week1 despite not many touches. He didn’t show nearly as much today. He’s got talent. Just not sure what kind of usage it will end up equating to ultimately.
