RB Jarquez Hunter, LAR (1 Viewer)

Kent Lee Platte
Jarquez Hunter was drafted in round 4 pick 117 in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 7.17 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 598 out of 2106 RB from 1987 to 2025.

New Rams running back Jarquez Hunter had the 2nd-highest explosive rush rate (10+ yards) among FBS backs with 150+ carries in 2024.

That skill set will be a welcome addition to a Rams backfield that had the 4th-fewest explosive rushes in the NFL last season.

@RamsOnFilm
Rams 4th round RB Jarquez Hunter had a 278 yard rushing performance last season against Kentucky

McVay stated “He clearly has a competitive stamina about him. When you give him a vertical seam, he can run away from you. Some of the metrics we have on him are really impressive”

Josh Norris
This is why the Rams drafted Jarquez Hunter

a favorite of many out there. Was Auburn's entire offense. Breaks a ton of tackles. Battering ram. No gloves. No nonsense.

Jarquez Hunter is arbitrage Bhayshul Tuten in dynasty rookie drafts

Explosive big play runner with 4th round capital surrounded by 2 talented rbs & could make some noise this year

Only interest to Williams and Corum owners right now, but down the road he could figure more into fantasy relevance. Not someone you want to draft if you're an instant grativication type of person.

Definitely an under the radar guy given the state of the Auburn program over the last few years, but I always thought he ran tough and had a bit of Ray Rice to him.

Sean McVay offenses ask a lot of RBs when it comes to protections and reads. Its a tough offense for a rookie to come in and succeed in.

I'd be shocked if Hunter threatened Corum for the #2 job this year and wouldn't be blown away if he didn't even pass Ronnie Rivers, and just played ST.

I would be somewhat surprised if the Rams didn’t give Hunter consideration by the end of the year. He looks to be more explosive than Kyren and the Rams may need to have further information if they want to resign Kyren and if so at what cost.
Corum should get play time as well as part of that assessment.

Rams had Hunter at the top of their draft board entering day 3 ahead of the other backs and players who went before him. They traded up to get him as well.

I have to admit that I'm not that excited about Hunter, but I got him late in a league where I have Williams. I believe the Rams like Corum too, and while I like Hunter OK, I feel he may just be a roster clogger for now. Down the road? Who knows. The way end of bench players get cycled out, he probably won't even be on my team by the end of the year, but I'll stash him for now.

I have Hunter in a group of four RBs who I think all have a chance to hit eventually based on landing spots/situations more so than draft capital. My goal is just to come away with one of them in every league, most likely whoever falls the furthest/is the cheapest. I'm still a firm believer that most of the day 3 RBs this year would pretty much be a round higher just about any other year.

"Hunter caught the attention of Sean McVay to open the week, flashing his playmaking ability and hard running style. His speed is always on display but McVay loved seeing his physicality and attitude on the field.

“I thought you saw Jarquez do an excellent job. He’s heavy. He's got a great body lean. Even though we're not truly tackling, you can feel that he is heavy through the hole. He has a really good demeanor. He can stare a hole through you. He’s continuing to show improvement. I think Kyren has done a great job setting the tone. I've been really pleased with Corum. Jarquez definitely showed really well today."

Rams possibly delaying Kyren extension as they see what they have in Hunter and Corum. McVay though said not to read to much into the number of carries that Hunter and Corum received in this practice.
But Hunter brings the explosiveness that Kyren lacks. I just don’t see the Rams offering Kyren top dollar and if that’s right there will be a contract impasse. Which allows Hunter and Corum the opportunity to show out.

I see Kyren as a good tough team oriented player but one who is maxed out on his physical abilities. His size and lack of speed limit him and Rams need more than he can provide. One way or another his touches are going to be less this year.

McVay in the off-season stressed needing more explosive plays which feels like a direct shot at Kyren who just can't generate explosive runs.

Who are the other three? And how do you rank them?

Oof hard to remember at this point tbh lol. I know for sure one of them was Breshard Smith and he was/is still my favorite late snag in drafts. Pretty certain another would be Tahj Brooks, as he could play all 3 downs and IMO is a Chase injury away from being the guy your whole league bids 70% of their waiver FAAB on. At the time the fourth was probably JCM, but at this point for the late rounds I'd throw in Woody Marks as well. I think he's got the explosiveness of Achane, just without the same inside rushing chops (something it feels like people are still too low on for Achane).

Order would probably be:
Smith
Brooks
>>>>
JCM
Hunter
>>>>
>>>>
Marks

But really with the news Mixon sounds like he's going to be missing time and Chubb looking pedestrian at best, I should probably be bumping Marks up for his immediate value this season even if I think his talent/skillset/usage degree will be less than the rest.

“Williams and Corum both had some good runs during practice, as seen on the Saints’ livestream, but [Jarquez] Hunter really flashes in this practice.

The rookie broke off a long run up the middle where he cut back to his right and housed it for a touchdown, showing off his breakaway speed. He’s going to be difficult to keep off the field this season.”

well I've been bullish so far but I didn't love what I saw in the preseason week 1 game and thought Corum looked dramatically better. One game and rookie RBs often have initial jitters. He wasn't bad or anything but I thought I saw a tentative dancer. And that is often overcorrected by running into the backs of blockers (no I didn't see him do that but a couple runs were rushed IMO)

A breakaway run for Kyren goes for 15-18 yards. A Hunter breakaway goes for 25 to 40.
As the season goes on that difference will lead to increased snaps for Hunter particularly if the Rams passing game struggles.
