RB Javonte Williams, DAL (1 Viewer)

i have him and dont expect much out of him. if you had to start him last night , you were desperate and got lucky he had 2 short td runs
no one is crazy enough to pay a 1st or 2nd for him after 1 game , if you can get it , good on you
maybe weeks 8-12 before the deadline if he is still averaging double digits ppg

(PFF's Nathan Jahnke) NFL Week 1 Game Recap: Immediate fantasy football takeaways from Thursday's game
Javonte Williams shines in his Cowboys’ debut: Dallas' first two drives both ended with touchdowns by Williams.

The Cowboys spent the offseason giving their running back room a complete makeover, moving on from Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook, while bringing in free agents Williams and Miles Sanders and spending a fifth-round pick on Jaydon Blue. The Cowboys rested their starters during the preseason, which led to Williams not playing. Both Sanders and Blue dealt with injuries. They both played during the preseason, but in different games. This left us with little insight into how the running backs would rotate in the regular season. This game was, by far, our best look at how this backfield will shake out early in the season.

We received our first insight into the rotation 90 minutes before kickoff, when Blue was a healthy inactive. He missed a lot of training camp but didn’t appear on the injury report leading up to the game. The Cowboys have fullback Hunter Luepke, who can also play halfback, making it somewhat understandable that Blue sat. Anyone who drafted Blue should keep him on their roster for at least the first few weeks, as things could easily change between now and a month from now.

Williams started the game and had a larger role than he had at any point with the Broncos last season, and better than Dowdle had most of last season. There were a few stretches of the game where Sanders took a few snaps at a time, but other than that, it was all Williams. That included taking snaps in short yardage, at the goal line, on third downs and during the two-minute drill. It appeared the backfield could have shifted once Sanders broke a 49-yard run, but he fumbled. While Williams’ role is great, it’s worth remembering that the Cowboys had the sixth-fewest receptions by running backs last season. Although Williams has a reputation for being a receiving back, the running backs were not a priority in the passing game.

Williams will be a borderline fantasy starter until Blue becomes more involved with the offense. The decision to start him will largely depend on the quality of his opponent and the projected game script. Dallas faces the New York Giants at home next week, which should be a situation where you can start Williams.
Javonte Williams played 47 of 61 snaps total (77%), more especially after Sanders was banished to the Shadow Realm. He was basically free in drafts (I got him 7.13 in my 16-team Standard 3RR Double Flex League) and you hope he does ok for a few weeks so maybe you can trade him. He's a Flex play, nothing more at this point.

I don't see how you watched the game last night and thought, "He should get the ball more".
He doesn't have to get the ball more to be a FF asset. I was surprised he was used like he was and more-so that Dallas offense looked solid against a good defense. While I don't think Williams has much in the tank he is in a great situation and will get opportunities to help your FF team this year.
Yeah, that is fair - he had a pretty low investment cost too but I am just recommending a solid exit strategy.

The staff has to be hoping one of these 2 RB's they drafted this year can provide more juice than Williams.
While we play fantasy the coaches are not playing fantasy. Having "juice" is one small aspect of playing RB.

You may not like it but JW is a veteran who offers a lot more than juice and the rookies will have to prove they are better and not just in the who can run the fastest. I expect JW to be the lead back all year unless he gets injured. We will see how much Blue and or Mafah can squeeze out for touches. It will be a time share but for now JW is the starter no matter how many people say he is a plodder.
I guess what I am saying is if Jaydon Blue has any ability in pass pro, the job is his.

Obviously, Williams is the current starter and nothing is guaranteed for a 5th round RB but... the mountain one would have to climb isn't exactly Kilimanjaro. It isn't like Schotty is tied to Williams either. It's a job to be had.

Javonte Williams rushed 18 times for 97 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys’ Week 2 win over the Giants, adding six catches for 33 yards on seven targets.

Hard to be upset about Williams’ production through two games. He had 55 of Dallas’ 76 snaps in Week 2 and the Cowboys offensive line has been spectacular about creating holes for him, generating enough space for his 30-yard score to have Williams only dealing with arm tackles through the middle. He’s been a league-winning pick through two weeks, and neither Miles Sanders nor the inactive Jaydon Blue look particularly close to cutting into his snap share. We’ll be rolling with Williams as an RB2 in Week 3 against the Bears.

Ok here's the burning question I have for other Javonte Williams owners...

NOW do we trade this guy, or could this actually be sustainable and Williams is the alpha bell cow of this backfield?

Dynasty? You absolutely sell high. Redraft? Ride it for as long as you can

Depends what you’re getting of course. Is anyone giving much?
If contending and you’re using him, keep.

This. He’s benefiting from a great opportunity on a one-year deal. He could be on the outs next year.

Think they’ve got plans for Phil Mafah.

Id bet he is definitely on a one year deal and will then bolt to the highest bidder. He is playing for next year's contract. Dallas will continue to give him all he can handle and they both win. What i love is he plays rushing downs and passing downs. His pass protection is solid and he is the goal line back on a pretty good offense. I own him in both my leagues and am gonna hold and watch them ride him till the wheels off. Hopefully he can hold up 15 more games.

Is there a big difference between him and Chase Brown last season?

He’s still young (25), looked great in his first couple of years, got hurt, looked like he was still on the mend the last couple of seasons, and now looks like he’s finally healthy again and lighting it up.

I’m holding in BOTH redraft and dynasty. Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment.

And there doesn't appear to be another back demanding touches in Dallas. He looks like he's going to dominate the backfield.

Whatever one thinks about his long term chances, there's only a few backs not in a timeshare. Makes for a really comforting floor for your RB2.

He’s turning into what Dobbins was for the first half of last year: RB1 numbers at an RB4 price. Now I’ll just say #NOJINX so that it doesn’t end the same way.

Got him as my rb3 behind Cooks n BR. Couldn't be happier.
If he stays healthy he's gonna help a lot of teams get into playoffs and win the championship.

I took Jevonte as my RB4 in my 12-teamer, and he's out-performed my designated RB1 (Kyren), RB2 (Chuba), and RB3 (Jordan Mason). Clearly he has become one of the Steals of the Draft. Great offensive system, and a golden opportunity to produce huge numbers.

He gets Chicago in Week 3, that gave up 152 yards rushing this week. Ride him!!!

Surprised Mason went before Williams.

I took Mason in the 7th round, and JaVonte in the 9th. Imagined that Mason would handle early-down and red-zone work, and Aaron Jones (who turns 31 in December) most of the passing downs. Jones is already dealing with a hamstring injury. If Mason handles the full volume, he could be a Top 10 RB, as he was last year when CMC went down in SF.

Think they’ve got plans for Phil Mafah.
They very well might like Mafah long term (I have him stashed in dynasty) but he won't replace Williams this year. Williams is the vet doing what he does best and grind out yards and TDs. Coaches and Dak trust him. Mafah is a rookie who is currently injured. As it stands now I wouldn't expect much from Mafah at all this year.

I was very wrong about Williams. I thought he was a JAG and wouldn't do anything worthwhile as a Cowboy. He killed me in both of my leagues.

I'll own that I was saying the same thing. By the way, don't let them tell you he looks like he did when he was a rookie—he looks nothing like he looked back then, or Melvin Gordon would have never been in his way (well, you can argue the coach wanted a shared backfield and you'd be right, but he DID NOT look like that—I watched so many college highlights and drafted him with the 1.5). I haven't seen him ever hurdle a guy before or show that kind of athleticism in the least.

Yeah, Javonte's speed/athleticism are nowhere close to his rookie year.

I had Javonte last year and one thing that's impressed me is his power... he'd go down on 1st/2nd contact last year, but now he's running over guys and shedding blocks. He appears to be a little faster this year also. We are almost 4 years removed from his catastrophic knee injury and surgery, and he says he feels the best he's felt since then.

I've had shares in previous seasons but passed on him this season. It's good to see him playing well and I would hang on in redraft plus he has minimal backfield competition. The price was so cheap and he's outperforming many taken ahead of him. Ride the wave.

I have him on one dyno where I already have Bijan/Hampton/Benson+Conner/Skattebo and while i haven’t stated him in 2 games (that’s changing) I’m holding him.
