RB Javonte Williams, DAL (4 Viewers)

Is anyone still buying this guy? I just think he's had 4 years to prove himself, injuries or not, he's yet to show he's more than a JAG. I wouldn't be surprised if Sanders or Blue ends up outproducing given their relative ADP.

He’s the DAL starting RB. He can be had as a throw in a trade. I’ll take a shot on him with the expectation that he’s a bye week fill in with some upside, especially in PPR.

Rice Dowdle was relevant there last season. I don’t think he’s much better than Javonte, if at all.

I'd say Dowdle has proven as much as Williams the last few years though. Call it a push?

Sure. The hate has gone too far.

I agree with this. But I’m not sure yet if any of them will get enough work to be startable in fantasy

He signed a 1 year deal for 3 mill.

I'm reading that as the entire NFL thinks he has no chance of being a lead back.
Rico Dowdle signed a 1-year $2.75M contract and he was the lead back on this team. I’m not saying Javonte is a fantasy RB1. I think he can at least be Dowdle and be a good Flex/bye week fill in and he’s basically free.

I would rather take the chance that Javonte will help my team over a 3rd round draft pick.

He just turned 25 last month and he has 764 career touches in the NFL (416 in college).

He's absolutely worth taking a chance on and is easily the first Cowboys runner I would take in all fantasy formats.

Yes, he’s 25, but in dog years.
Lots of questions he has to answer, for sure.

I just happen to believe that his baseline talent level is better than his competition. Given another year away from the injury he's my target in the Cowboys backfield.

Very true but the counter to that if I wanted to argue for Javonte's value is the basic premise there are points/fantasy production someone has to get and his comp is a guy they signed for $1.2m and a 5th round pick with those costs both suggesting the entire NFL does not like odds of either of them being lead backs either.

Out of those investments the 5th round pick is the biggest one.

I look at Dallas lack of commitment to upgrading the RB room last year as a major negative in their team construction. I get a feeling they don't share my opinion. I think in their world I think they look at getting over 1300 yards from Rico Dowdle, another RB who the league was not that into this off-season, and feel like that justifies their approach.

It feels like they're overcorrecting from investing so much into Zeke. Everyone gets that RB is a devalued position in the modern NFL but they have taken it to another level.

I think that's part of it along but I think their main belief is they'd rather invest in beefing up the OL and if that's in place they can always find a few cheap RB's to churn out some production. It's not a bad premise and they can point to a few things which shows they are actually right with this approach. But the other side of that argument is they are creating a situation that's ideal to get the best out of a RB and just seeing what a stud RB behind a built up OL did for the Eagles.

What the NFL seemed to be telling people this off-season, with the Barkley/Henry big money extensions vs cold FA RB market for majority of the position, is that the only change in the RB market is for the few studs that have difference making talent. There are a few studs and everyone else. Dallas has just taken the easily replaceable mentailty to maybe a bit of an extreme.

I've been holding Javonte for so long, I can't cut him now. Won't cost me much - might as well see what he can do with a new team, another year removed from injury.
This.

I have him in 3 of 4 dynasty leagues. Lands in one of the very best case scenario situations on a prove it deal. Hold and hope he can be an RB2 at best, or a flex starter at least.
🤞

He’s the perfect guy to throw in to a deal that’s close but needs a sweetener to get it over the line. Let your trade partner believe they’re getting a volume-based RB2 for practically free. I see maybe a 5% chance that Javonte ever puts up the kind of numbers that you really miss having in your lineup or on your roster.

If you wait until this fall and he for whatever reason isn’t producing, he will be in total roster clogger, worthless territory. I’d rather get out now while he still has the hope of some short term production.

FWIW I'll just pass along some info that I heard on the radio a few days ago.

Cowboys beat writer with The Athletic was on local sports radio and I think he was asked to give his best guess on the Cowboys leading rusher in week one. He said he'd go Javonte, but that Blue would be the lead guy before the season is over. I think he may have wrote something like this already and he for sure is not going on much info here so take it for what it's worth.
