RB Jaylen Wright, MIA (4 Viewers)

@32BeatWriters
“Wright is expected to carry more of the load in 2025. He’s a bigger back than Achane, has great long speed, and is even a good pass protector. There’s no shortage of areas where he can help the Dolphins. “
Shhhhhh. I don't want to see Achane fall. Let somebody else have him.
I wish Wright had done more. Not saying he can’t, but he was somewhat disappointing.

That's my issue. He was basically healthy all year and did nothing.

Someone will need to used as a secondary back, I think Wright has the talent to take that role. If Achane gets dinged, Wright will have some value.

Realistically what could you pay for Wright and actually get him. If the owner is holding and excited I'm not sure even a 2nd would get the job done as that is what the owner drafted him at last year.

Gordon is lingering in the background as well...being 6'1" 225 he brings some good size to the table, and we all saw what he did at OSU in 2023...in fantasy we all want to see it be either Wright or Gordon but if they both carve out a role that could negate both of them.

Was offered a 2026 2nd for him this morning. Decent team so probably a mid or lower 2nd. Turned it down since I like his skillset and the offense he’s in. Not worried about last season as others seem to be.

The draft capital spent in a rookie draft doesn't matter to me as a buyer. It also shouldn't matter to you as a seller. I have had guys I've missed on in the late first... I have held because "I spent a first on him" and the value continued to tank. If you can sell Wright to the Achane owner for a 2nd... you should.

The storyline leading up to Rookie drafts was Wright would eat into Achane's workload. He didn't. His value is highest to the Achane owner. I own Achane... and I wouldn't cuff Wright for my 2nd round pick, especially in this draft.

"Jaylen Wright is a bigger version of Achane" - Achane Haters

Last year proved that isn't true. Sometimes, the answer is not being attached to past draft capital... turn your 4th round selections into 3rd round draft picks and cut your losses before the value starts crashing - signed a guy who drafted Kyle Pitts in the 2nd and held him... I would absolutely take a 1st for Pitts now. Id be lucky to get a mid-2nd.

"THIS IS MY KYLE PITTS. THERE ARE MANY LIKE HIM BUT THIS ONE IS MINE".

Edited to Add: Ollie Gordon is rookie RB17 (according to FantasyPros). Late 3rd early 4th rounder... I'll take my chances he's the handcuff. Zero indication the keys belong to Wright if an injury occurs.

I mentioned this earlier on Wright - he was always behind the veterans last year and that has nothing to do with his talent or abilities or what they wanted to do long term. Mostert and Wilson were going to play before Wright. Now Mostert is gone and Wright has been in the system for a year already. I do believe Wright is the handcuff to be had right now (and I did draft Gordon just in case). They gave up an extra third round pick just to draft Wright. They will give him an opportunity at some point to see if he can carry the mail and be the 2nd up after Achane.

Wright had a few flashes last year and hopefully in his second year the game slows down for him. Also the offense was a hot mess last year with injuries to basically everyone (O-line, QB, Receivers, and RBs). I think Wright is a decent buy if the owner is willing to sell.

Achane owner with 2.04 & 2.10 in the rookie draft. I'd consider 2.10 (OTC) for Wright... I won't trade 2.04 for him.

I might value this draft differently than everyone but I really like players 10-16 Egbuka, Burden, Kaleb Johnson, RJ Harvey, Warren, Loveland are all ahead of Wright for me. If, 33 year old, Raheem Mostert is blocking a rookie from more reps... maybe that rookie isn't very good.

Or maybe the coach was enamored with Mostert dating back to his SF days and that was why Mostert rushed for 1000 yards with 18 TDs the previous year.

Dolphins were a mess last year. Hard to gauge much off of that. Mostert is gone and McDaniel likes to use multiple backs and Achane isn't exactly Derrick Henry from a durability standpoint. Wright will get his shot this year. Let's see what he does with it.

I'm with you on most of this but Mostert was coming off a top 3 RB season with 21 total TDs. He was great in that offense the year before. Miami was contending and they weren't going to throw Wright out there to protect Tua and trust him to run the offense when there were 3 vets ahead of him.

The vets playing last year had nothing to do with Wright being good OR not. Wright had to bide his time and prove he could run the offense properly and protect Tua.

As I mentioned in another thread - rookie expectations these days are out the roof. Vets are going to play as they are proven. Rookies have to earn it and sometimes it will take a year or 2 and that is fine.

This beat definitely just listened to dynasty nerds' most recent podcast "Sounds good to me!"
Agreed - certainly reasonable that Wright can take a big jump this year and cut into Achane's workload, but it's not because an SI writer covering the Dolphins - and needs a story - says so.

He will be Achane’s primary backup and if Achane gets dinged (like any NFL RB does with heavy volume) Wright will be in line for a large role.

The expectations of rookies is ridiculous these days. Especially when Wright had one of the top PPR backs in 2024 in front of him and was…..wait….a rookie.

This kid can play. No doubt. Handcuff Achane with him (I have in my dynasty…took wright in round two last season).

Dynasty is the patience version of FF.

Redraft is instant gratification and he is an afterthought in that format until an injury.

I disagree, almost completely. RBs have very short shelf lives. It’s important to get production from them early. Wright had a total of 72 touches last seasons with only 3 receptions. Maybe MIA was saving him for some reason or maybe he wasn’t very good. Either way, it hasn’t been inspiring to this point.

I see no real difference in his value between redraft and dynasty. He’s a back up that may or may not split carries if Achane is out.

Again in dynasty because it’s such a short shelf like….Achanes clock and miles are rising rapidly and IMO unsustainable in his physical build.

Wright will have a much larger role than last season. If he does not this season then I can get with the “stick a fork in him” crowd.

I am not in that mind set at all after a quiet rookie season. I saw a lot of little things in pre season last year and some carries in the regular season to give me a good idea about him coming into year 2.

He has no legit competition other than Gordon in front of him to seize control of the primary backup role which is what we are all talking about.

He is worthless in redraft and will be a hot WW pickup if Achane goes down.

In dynasty he is absolutely worth a stash on deep roster dynasty leagues and that is the crux of my point.

When a team is 1-3 entering their bye week and drop 3 straight games for a record of 1-6 and the season feels a little lost... you would think that rookie, if as valuable as previously stated, would have got SOME run. They actually fed him the most the week leading into the bye week. Where I stand with Jaylen Wright is he is a handcuff. He might get a little run in some games but he isn't valuable unless Achane goes down and then I have no reason to believe it wouldn't become some type of RBBC with more even splits between Wright, Mattison and/or Ollie Gordon.

I am just saying he isn't worth a 2nd. The only reason he was worth a 2nd was because people believed he would be a part of an RBBC, with Achane seeing less carries... wrong.

If you own Achane, he is probably still worth a 2nd (late). If you don't own him... he is a roster clogger and you should sell him for a late 2nd/early 3rd to the Achane owner.

I would rather take a flier on guys with less talented guys in front of them.

To go a step further, If you're interested in this situation, I'd rather draft Gordon in the late 3rd than trade a 2nd for Wright.

▪ McDaniel said second-year running back Jaylen Wright “benefited tremendously from coming into the league in a very competitive room. When that’s the case, you learn how little room for error to execute your job responsibilities are. When we had exit meetings, I was talking to Jaylen about [being able] to non verbally communicate to me his hunger for a [bigger] role. I see better than I hear. Four OTAs in, I can see him following through with that.”

*as a side note I'm stealing that line in the bolded to use on my family.

Keep in mind McDaniel is a horrendously awful head coach.

Is he worth a 2nd round rookie pick? 2.11 or 2.12? Yeah I would take a flier but nothing
Higher than that.

I recently turned down a 3rd round pick from the Achane owner in a DEVY league that combines rookies and DEVY players in the draft. I feel like I might as well hold Wright if it’s not a 2 nd.

The only Dolphin I want is Achane and I traded him straight up for Hunter. Miami o-line is bad and the HC isn't ready for the position. Miami will start again after this season.
I would try packaging Wright in a deal instead of a 1 for 1.
