RB Kennedy Brooks, PHI (1 Viewer)

Faust

MVP
Oklahoma redshirt junior RB Kennedy Brooks will declare for the NFL draft.

No shock here as the Sooners leading rusher will declare for the NFL draft. Brooks (5'11/215) is less than 24 hours off a fantastic performance in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon with 142 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the 47-32 win. He had an amazing career in Oklahoma with three 1,000+ rushing yard seasons and two of three with over ten rushing touchdowns. This is a decent running back draft class, he's up there amongst the top tier backs in the draft, and he'll have a chance during the scouting period to boost his stock

3 Oklahoma Sooners inside Pro Football Focus' top 100 2022 NFL draft prospects

Excerpt:

Kennedy Brooks, Running Back

Kennedy Brooks is getting ready for the Alamo Bowl and has mentioned he’s unsure of his future. While it would be great to see Brooks in a Sooners’ uniform for one more year, he’s ready for the next level. Though he doesn’t get the same hype as Kenneth Walker out of Michigan State or Breece Hall of Iowa State, Brooks has been every bit as productive, often in timeshares.

Brooks has three 1,000-yard seasons to his resume while sharing time with Trey Sermon and Rhamondre Stevenson and ceding carries to quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts.

Brooks may not have the same athletic profile as running backs who will be ranked higher; he’s a running back built for the NFL. He’s got elite vision and subtle elusiveness. Brooks displays fantastic patience and timing, knowing when to burst through the hole and pick up big runs.

Brooks finished 15th in the country in missed tackles forced and eight in runs of 15 yards or more. He’s got a subtle ability about the way he runs that will be incredibly effective at the next level.

The only thing that would keep Brooks out of the top 100 if he were to declare for the 2022 NFL draft is how NFL teams value running backs. Due to the wear and tear that running backs face, running backs don’t have the longevity that other positions have at the NFL level. Fewer and fewer running backs are being taken in the top 100 than might have been 20 years ago.

Even if he doesn’t go in the first three rounds of the NFL draft, Brooks will be an effective NFL player for whichever team selects him.

Eagles signed Oklahoma RB Kennedy Brooks.

Brooks (5'11/209) topped 1,000 yards rushing each of his three seasons with the Sooners (opted out in 2020), finishing with 3,529 yards from scrimmage and 31 total touchdowns. Brooks ran a 4.61 40 at the Combine with a 10-foot broad jump. His 31-inch vertical was not great, but he improved that to 35.5 inches at his Pro Day. Brooks does not have top-tier speed, power, or elusiveness, but he has enough of those things to produce given his excellent patience and vision. It would not be a surprise if he outplays his UDFA status and profiles as a good fit in Philadelphia's system. He reportedly was given $240,000 guaranteed on his UDFA contract.

Waldman rates him highly. I'm not going to give over proprietary information, but safe to say he's in the top eight.

On the podcast, he said something to the effect of, if he could put long odds on any late round / undrafted RB from this class to be the next Terrell Davis, it's Brooks.

Specifically, he said "place a $100 bet to win $100,000".   It was an off the cuff remark and obvious what he meant, but we're going to need better than 1000:1 odds of your late round sleeper becoming a fantasy superstar to tie up the roster spot, Matt.  😉

It should also be noted that Brooks got a large amount of his UDFA contract guaranteed.   It's more in line with an early 6th round RB, so for those who are sticklers for draft capital, I wouldn't toss him in the same bucket as most UDFA RBs.   He was clearly a high priority for the Eagles.

Always a sucker for a Waldman endorsement.   Happy with the early returns on Khalil Herbert.   Will probably target at the end of round 4.

He has talent and enters a situation with a run based offense, a top 5 OL and positional opportunity to be grasped.

I took him as a last pick in the draft just to see what happens since Waldman likes him so much and I’m not overly impressed with any of the RBs in Philly.

Hurts led the Eagles in rush attempts.  I don't see much upside for any RB in the Eagles system.
