The way you and others have reacted in here it makes me think very few people actually listened to the Sparano interview.

First off, he said nothing about "sitting this kid."

Second, he said that Murray has only had 8 carries so it's "hard for me to sit here and say I can (rely on him)". Gee. Perfectly reasonable for a coach not to openly commit to relying on a kid who hasn't even played a full game yet.

He followed that up with "at least until I can see him handle 15-18 carries" in a game and "we got to get him going that way before" (I can really give a full assessment). That's because "he hasn't had that many carries in a game since college" Then Sparano implied that was where Murray was headed in the Chiefs game before he got hurt.

My expectation is McFadden will start but Murray will get in as soon as the second series and if he performs relatively well vs. DMC/MJD/Reece (low bar there) he will get the vast majority of the touches going forward but not 100%.

The interview does nothing to refute that.

I dont really care what sort of non commital gibberish he was spouting.

It didnt sound anything along the lines of, "our season is lost, our other rb's are old and suck badly, may as well evaluate young talent and start planning for next off season"

 
Meh, it is the Raiders. Anyone following the team could see that MJD was spent, and DMac was ineffective. With the team heading towards the another dumpster fire season there was no reasonable explanation why Murray was the featured back a month ago. May they are saving his legs for the next team he plays for.

Idiotic.

I am not seeing anyone say he will only play a little. Or that one of the other (proven craptastic) backs will be some focal point.

This kid hasn't played a full half. You expect an NFL coach to just give him the job? And even IF the coach plans to give him the ball a lot, why would he say it in a game where you earn a job?

My guess is that they want to see what he can do but will see how he handles the job and probably not "start" him because thats a veteran's job until he unseats them. And 8 (great as they were) carries, as the freakin' coach said, ain't enough.

 
Koya, like mine, most of theater posts are a general frustration about the situation. We have held this guy the entire season hoping he gets an opportunity. The staff has dragged their feet on the situation, and then when they finally let him play he blows up before getting concussed. Frustrating to say the least.

What I, as a Murray owner want to hear from Saprano is, "Hell, yes Murray is going to start and we will ride that horse till the cows come home!"

I do not own any Raider RBs in FF but as a Raider fan I am frustrated with how this season played out. There was no reason to keep playing DMC and MJD after seeing that they were done as football players after a few games. Reese and Murray should have been eased into the starting roles. Why not play guys that COULD contribute on the team next season.

Being a Raider fan has been brutally frustrating. The team has little talent and does not use the little talent that it does have. No wonder the losing continues. There better be a new GM and coaching staff in place in February.

 
Oakland's lone potential Week 14 ray of light comes from Latavius Murray, who will return after missing last week's loss to St. Louis with a concussion. Murray's usage is unclear, but his matchup isn't quite as difficult as it appears on paper. Over the past month, Saints, Giants, Redskins, and Seahawks running backs have combined to tag the Niners for 447 yards on 97 runs (4.61 YPC). For as good as rookie ILB Chris Borland has been, San Francisco still misses Patrick Willis, Navorro Bowman, and Glenn Dorsey. Murray is a dart-throw flex option with some upside.

 
The deal is he's been pretty amazing on a very limited basis but he plays for the Raiders and they're dumb so it's anyone's guess if he will get the volume he deserves.

 
I'll probably be starting him in week 15 for the first time this year. Nothing like trying something new in the first round of the playoffs.

Sparano gave the most talented back the most carries, when he was healthy.

SF is a good rush defense. I think one could do worse with Murray as a flex the next two weeks.

 
McKenzie and Allen and Davis or whoever calls the shots in Oakland look pretty ridiculous now. Let's see, they have one game where they give this guy just the slightest chance to carry them and another where they lean on him and they go 2-0. What a complete waste of a season for the team and the fans.

The work, yes. Not so much the result. And again, better get what you can out of him next week, because BUF is one of only seven teams giving up less than 97 YPG on the ground. They don't get shoved around.

Judging by the relative success Carr had, is it safe to assume the Niners loaded the box consistently and dared Carr to throw?

If so, I'd say the performance was pretty noteworthy - both the carries AND the results.

Do you think Murray's 86 yards, or Carr's 3 passing TDs were more responsible for the win?

And do you know who drafted both of them?

 
I don't know if they loaded the box because i haven't watched the tape but if the 49ers were trying to stop Murray then he made it easier for Carr to throw those three TD passes.

 
And Carr's passing opened it up for Murray, and the line blocked for both of them, and on and on.

The Raiders won the game because Kaepernick is getting worse by the week, the O-line stuffed any SF pass rush, Carr had a nice game, and SF abandoned the run.

If people want to believe that the season slipped away from them because Murray wasn't given the ball 250 times since week 1, well, whatever. Theymust have a higher opinion of the talent there than I do.

 
I didn't watch yet either. Boxscore scouting shows two 15+ yard runs vs a good SF run defense and he got the touches. I'm doing cartwheels. No bad.

As for the other topic, replacing a below average starter will always help a team.

 
Haven't seen enough of Murray in games to have an opinion but his measurables are off the charts and they , at least, give him a chance to be special. Let's see how he finishes the year out.

So much for Sparano not giving Murray the bulk of the work. You gotta at least consider starting any RB getting that volume of touches.

 
I picked Murray up because Hill/Gio were killing me at RB2. Thankfully, J. Bell has been coming through recently but it will between these two from here on out. I didn't see the game, but as previous posters stated, Murray has a decent number of nice runs and faired well against a good run defense.
