RB Latavius Murray, BUF (1 Viewer)

I’ve got Latavius as a sneaky start today. Maybe because he’s all I got with Henry sitting. But I could see the Saints leaning on the run game heavily today in a game that the titans have virtually given up on.

Fearless prediction. 80 yards rushing. 2 tds. 40 yards receiving.

What’s the story with Murray heading into the 2020 season? 1a and 1b with Alvin? Murray played very well when given the opportunity to carry the load last year and Kamara lacked the explosiveness we saw his first two seasons.

He averaged a little over 11 touches a game on the season, he averaged about 10 touches a game after Kamara returned from injury.  I suspect around 10 touches a game is reasonable with 2-3 catches a game making up part of the 10.  He's a pretty elite handcuff with some stand alone value.  He hasn't had less than 6 TD's in the last 5 seasons across Oakland, MN, NO.

He becomes arguably an RB1 if Kamara is down.  In the 2 games Kamara missed, he had 48 rushes, 221 yards, 14 receptions, 86 yards and 4 total TD's.  Seems like he's going dirt cheap.

He's one of the top handcuffs.  Not a 1b.

eh, he had less than 30 fewer carries than Kamara on the season. The passing game is where AK sees definitively more action 43 tgts vs 97

Id say he is more than a hand cuff because he has weekly value, not just value if Ak is injured.

Even still AK is just very efficient with his touches. So add efficiency to his already higher total ( 252 vs 180 for Murray ) and he is clearly the focal point of the offense, Id still hesitate to call him a cuff tho

Latavius Murray game logs

Alvin Kamara game logs

AK missed games 7 and 8 of the 2019 season.

In games 7 and 8 when Kamara was out Murray had 48 rushing attempts and 18 targets,  This was 33% of his rushing attempts and 41% of his total targets for the season.

He is a handcuff to AK and a COP when he is healthy but not one you would think about starting. He averaged 9 opportunities per game in the 14 games that AK did play.. 30 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards per game.

Latavius Murray rushed 15 times for 48 yards in the Saints' win over the Bucs in Week 1.

Hardly a fantasy difference maker today, Murray had more carries than Alvin Kamara -- a noteworthy nugget that could mean consistent opportunity for Murray when the Saints have game script on their side. Last year, Murray had four games of double-digit carries, with two coming when Kamara was out. The Saints should once again have a firm grasp on game script in Week 2 against the Raiders.

Latavius Murray rushed 14 times for 64 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints' Week 4 win over the Lions.

He also caught a 19-yard pass on two targets. Murray punched in touchdowns from three and six yards out, his first two scores of the season. Murray has carry totals of 15, 12, and 14 in three games this season, sandwiched around a three-carry Week 2. He's proven he has standalone FLEX value moving forward with the Saints really focusing on the run game. It'll be interesting to see if that remains the case with Michael Thomas (ankle) coming back possibly as soon as next week. But Murray needs to be owned in all formats ahead of a Week 5 date with the Chargers.

My starters week 1 were  barkley and conner..... my rbs this week were  Murray and Hunt....  didnt have a starting rb to start.  Pleased as punch the way things went today.

Latavius Murray rushed 19 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints' Week 12 win against the Broncos, adding one reception for one yard.

Murray had eight more rushing attempts than Alvin Kamara. Most importantly, he got carries inside the 10 yard line, converting the opportunity into two touchdowns. Murray has racked up 31 carries over Taysom Hill's two starts at the expense of Kamara. There's an argument to be made that Hill and Murray are the only reliable fantasy options for as long as Hill is the team's starter. The Saints will continue to be a massively run heavy offense in Week 13 against Atlanta, making Murray a reasonable low-end RB2 play.

Latavius Murray (knee) will play in Week 14 against the Eagles.

Murray was removed from Friday's injury report following limited participation on Thursday. He offers little standalone value with Kamara presumably back at full strength but remains a league-winning stash if Kamara were to miss any time.

DFS Slant:

The Eagles are a run funnel defense, with 37.44 percent of yards gained against Philly this year coming via the rush. That's the league's third highest rushing yards rate. Look for the Saints to pound the Eagles on the ground. That could give Murray a shot at goal line work or garbage time work if game script goes sideways.

Struggling whether to try Murray or Edmonds this weekend in a PPR league...with Kamara getting more touches as of late a little concerned about Murray’s usage. Thoughts anyone?

Latavius Murray rushed 12 times for 72 yards in the Saints' Week 16 win over the Vikings.

The revenge tasted sweet for Murray, who also added 24 yards on three receptions against his old team. Murray mixed in throughout the game but missed out on his few touchdown opportunities. Meanwhile, Alvin Kamara rushed for six touchdowns, the most since 1929. Murray could see a few more carries than normal in Week 17 ahead of the NFL playoffs, but it's unknown how much that game will matter to New Orleans and how coach Sean Payton will handle it. Murray has been a RB3/4 in normal circumstances.

Saints placed RB Latavius Murray on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Murray, Dwayne Washington, FB Michael Burton, and the Saints RB coach were all ruled close contacts of Alvin Kamara. It leaves the Saints with Ty Montgomery as their likely Week 17 starter. Taysom Hill also figures to have a larger role in the run game. Murray and Kamara both have a chance to return for Wild Card round.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Latavius Murray (quad) is "day-to-day".

Rapoport believes Murray's status for the Divisional Round against the Bucs is "up in the air". He did not practice on Wednesday but will have two more chances of getting in a limited session. In the Wild Card game, Alvin Kamara dominated touches. Expect that to happen even if Murray is active. The Saints also are tracking the availability of Taysom Hill, who missed Wednesday's practice with a knee injury. Ty Montgomery could come into play if both Murray and Hill are sidelined.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Saints RB Latavius Murray (quad) is not expected to play in the Divisional Round against the Bucs.

Rapoport added that QB Taysom Hill (knee) is on the wrong side of questionable. That means Alvin Kamara should finally be locked in for all of the goal line work and nearly all of the running back touches this week. Murray has five scores this season despite him not starting a single game. Without the risk of losing touchdowns to Hill or Murray, Kamara is easily the safest running back for DFS purposes this week.

Warning signs were there the last couple weeks. Tony Jones is now on the clock.

Why not the Falcons? It seems like a better fit than the Ravens and the Rams. No?!

Anybody in that Saints division will want a piece of him. The info alone that he brings is priceless to a coaching staff.

Saints released RB Latavius Murray.

Murray initially appeared to have secured his spot on the Saints' roster after making it past final cuts but Adam Schefter reported that he was asked to take a pay cut on Monday. After refusing to work for less, New Orleans released the veteran runner. Tony Jones will now operate as the second back in the Saints' tandem backfield. Jones stood out in training camp and the preseason making Murray expendable for a team running tight on cap space. With Devonta Freeman also getting released by the Saints, Jones has a clear path to a fantasy-relevant role in Week 1. Murray averaged 4.4 yards per carry during his two years in New Orleans and played well when filling in for Kamara. He should be able to find a backup gig relatively soon. A team dealing with a slew of running back injuries, like the Ravens, would be a logical landing spot for Murray.

He looked terrible in the preseason.  Not really sure how much excitement one would have even if he's signed somewhere.

Murray is 31 years old now. Maybe he should have taken the Saints offer if he really wanted to play.
Do we know what the payout would have been? It’s possible he didn’t want to play football but just saw it as a paycheck he couldn’t pass up. Once that pay was being cut, he might not have seen it as being valuable enough for him to tough out one more year.

I think Brown is better than LatMur
Meh.  Brown is younger, but that is about it.  They are both plodding backs who are reliable in pass pro.  They are dependable short-yardage backs who don't turn the ball over, but neither offers much more that that, imo.

Edit to add:  I think Murray adds more value as a handcuff, as he has shown he can be a primary ball carrier.

Well I think he had a pretty good contract with the Saints although I havent looked at the details of that. They were willing to keep him if he accepted the pay cut. I dont know how much of a pay cut they were offering him but he said no.

He made a statement about wanting to play and his interest in playing for the Ravens he floated out there. So I dont think it was that he didnt want to play this year.

I think the Saints have a very good offensive line and I kind of doubt he will be as successful with another team, so if he just wanted to play and it wasnt about the money why not accept the pay cut? Stay with the team he has done well with instead of having to start over some where else.

I looked it up and he was going to make $3 million with the Saints this season. I dont know what they offered him with the pay cut he refused but I would assume he thinks some other team will pay him more than what they offered.

Maybe a team will offer him more than that and maybe they wont.

I am guessing that the Saints offer of reduced pay was also associated with a reduced role for Murray as well. Perhaps he was not being considered the back up to Kamara by the Saints anymore.

He performed well for the Saints last season. Doesnt mean he is performing at the level he was at when they signed him as a free agent. Also the salary cap went down which may be another reason why the Saints wanted to reduce his pay.

Maybe he’ll get signed by the JAGuars

my favorite old time music is JAGtime

You guys remember the old tv show JAGnum PI?

I guess I am saying that despite him being younger, faster, stronger, and richer than me, in NFL terms he’s just a guy

The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec reports the Ravens are "finalizing" a deal with free agent RB Latavius Murray.

Zrebiec believes an agreement "should get done." This one simply makes too much sense not to happen after Gus Edwards joined J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hill on injured reserve Thursday. Murray spent the offseason and summer looking done for the Saints, but he remained one of the league's better backups in 2020. Running alongside Lamar Jackson and behind the Ravens' road-paving offensive line, Murray could easily become a top-24 fantasy running back if he summits his easy competition of Ty'Son Williams and Le'Veon Bell. Expect this one to be finalized shortly.

Might not have a lot left but a better fit than Bell. I think even Freemans a better fit. Leveons patient style was fun to watch in Pittsburgh....but it's not gonna work everywhere and don't think it'll work in Balt.
