RB Maroney Has Torn Cartilage In Rib Cage

John Tomase, Boston Herald - [Full Article]

RB Laurence Maroney has torn cartilage in his rib cage, leaving his status for today’s game against the Texans in doubt. According to a source, the rookie wanted to play last week but wasn’t cleared. He’s officially listed as questionable with a back injury, meaning he has a 50-50 chance of playing. He missed a portion of practice Friday. If Maroney misses his second straight game, RB Corey Dillon will once again be asked to carry the load. LINK

but do any homers or anyone in Bill Belichek's family know if A) he was close to playing last week, or B) is likely to play this week? any injury/update info will be appreciated.

i've complained enough about losing Kevin Jones. hopefully all of you have too :)

The Pats are going to make a rather interesting (and somewhat disappointing) roster transaction later today. I can't tell you who yet, but the fact that they would do this now must speak volumes about this player.

C'mon - you can't leave us hanging like that.If they cut one of the backup RB's (Pass, etc) it has to tell you that Maroney is ready to go.

Why would that be "somewhat disappointing?"

wow, i guess you (sorta) called it...Patriots released WR Doug Gabriel.

We are admittedly speculating, but one gets the sense that the Patriots didn't like Gabriel's attitude or study habits. During a six-game stretch early in the year, Gabriel was the team's top wideout, with three scores and five games over 40 yards. But he lost a fumble in Week 10 and was barely heard from since. He'll get another job as a reserve, possibly this week. Dec. 12 - 5:59 pm et

wondering if this isn't a move to allow roster space to pick up a RB...
Interesting...
Duce Staley is available! :P
the open roster spot created by gabriel looks to be filled with a TE. As a maroney owner and pats fan, I am concerned about maroney playing this weekend. The article is called running low on backs.

............Patriots rookie running back Laurence Maroney usually attacks the drill with vigor, light on his feet as he glides through. But yesterday was different, Maroney stepping carefully over each obstacle at limited speed, a clear sign that he's still ailing from a back injury sustained in the first quarter of last Sunday's 28-21 victory over the Lions...............

You won't see Maroney until the NFL playoffs. Why risk it with 3 semi-meaningless regular season games left?

39 no, 84 no, 75 no for Week 15

Semi-meaningless? Tha pats can get a bye if the Colts or Chargers stumble...I wouldn't call a first round bye semi-meaningless.

All I could find...From yesterday's Hartford Courant...

Maroney, perhaps the offense's most explosive player, hasn't played since the first quarter of the Lions game, when he had the wind knocked out of him, according to the Patriots. On last week's injury report, the Patriots listed Maroney as questionable with a back injury. Maroney didn't even make the trip to South Florida and is rumored to have bruised ribs.

Rib Cage injury....rotoworld/Boston Herald talked about "not counting on him to go this weekend", but that's the ONLY place I've heard that negative of an account.

FOXBORO - Patriots [team stats] running back Laurence Maroney [stats] has torn cartilage in his rib cage, leaving his status for tomorrow's game against the Texans in doubt.

According to a source close to Maroney, the rookie wanted to play last week but wasn't cleared by the training staff. He's officially listed as questionable with a back injury, meaning he has a 50-50 chance of playing. He missed a portion of practice yesterday.

Maroney has expressed frustration at the varying accounts of his injury and yesterday he basically shot them all down.

"I don't have broken ribs, I don't have a concussion and I don't have a back problem," he said. "And I definitely didn't have the wind knocked out of me."

Maroney was injured in the first quarter of a 28-21 victory over the Lions when he was tackled by safety Terrence Holt after a short run. The jarring helmet-to-helmet hit, with Maroney twisting sideways, left him wincing as he left the field, and he appeared to be trying to catch his breath.

If Maroney misses his second straight game, veteran Corey Dillon [stats] will once again be asked to carry the load, as he did last week in a 21-0 loss to the Dolphins.

I hear that there is a good chance that Maroney will play this week against Jacksonville. It's not definate, but there is a chance. I'm pretty sure that Rodney is going to play this week also.

Is this a feeling, or some kind of source?Thanks.. and bump.

Did anybody else hear Deion on NFL Network show after the Sunday game say that Maroney was in the doghouse and that he is healthy just not being played.

Personally, I find it hard to believe since the guy has looked awesome in his limited role. But just found it interesting. Any NE homers that could chime in and let us know?

That's crap.. he's got some torn cartilage in his ribcage.. its injury related.

starting to gain some steam hereper rotoworld:

Deion Sanders speculated on the NFL Network that Laurence Maroney might be missing time because he's in the "doghouse.""You think (reporter Adam) Schefter is the only one who gets scoops around here?" Neon Deion asked rhetorically. Maroney has said he's healthy the last two weeks but hasn't played since Week 13. His status is again uncertain heading to Sunday's matchup at Jacksonville.
