I think if they plan to give him only 6-8 touches they would have left him inactive another week. I see a 50/50 split or maybe 60/40 split in Hampton's favor

Exactly. They would not activate him after all of this time if he were not ready to go. Especially with how well Vidal has been playing. I have both, and easily starting Hampton.

Yes, I'm still worried about the offensive line and Herbert's health. But if Hampton is starting? Then hes the guy tonight IMO.

Omarion Hampton returns for the Chargers: The Chargers' first-round rookie was activated off injured reserve after last playing in Week 5.


Hampton began the year as Los Angeles’ lead running back, playing 77.9% of offensive snaps over the first four weeks. He was an every-down back, taking at least 72% of snaps in all situations, including 100% of the goal-line and two-minute drill snaps. He suffered an ankle injury in Week 5, which led to his placement on injured reserve. He was limited in practice on Thursday but practiced in full on Friday and Saturday, leading to his activation on Monday.

Najee Harris began the year as the backup and Hassan Haskins as the third-string back. Harris is out for the season, and Haskins also missed most of the games Hampton missed with a hamstring injury. Haskins was similarly limited on Thursday, practiced in full on Friday and Saturday, and was activated as well.


They joined Kimani Vidal, who started the year on the practice squad but was activated once Harris landed on injured reserve. Vidal played 71.6% of snaps from Weeks 6–11, taking at least 62% of snaps in all situations. With three healthy running backs, Los Angeles waived Jaret Patterson to clear a roster spot.

The Chargers used Hampton and Vidal in a frequent rotation, with each back taking only a few snaps at a time before the other subbed in. Haskins wasn’t involved on offense. There was a general tendency to use Hampton in run situations and Vidal in pass situations, though the split wasn’t as defined as most backfields. As the game progressed, the team leaned more on Vidal, with the second-year back dominating snaps in the fourth quarter when Los Angeles started playing from behind. Vidal caught a 60-yard pass on the opening drive, while Hampton scored a touchdown on that same drive — plays that accounted for most of their fantasy production.

There is a chance the Chargers were easing Hampton back in, but Vidal played well enough during his time as the starter that this could simply remain a two-man backfield for the rest of the season. Los Angeles has a tough matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs next week, followed by a favorable one against the Dallas Cowboys, and then finishes with another difficult game against the Houston Texans. Both running backs could be considered flex plays next week, but expectations should be tempered, as neither is likely to match the fantasy production from their peak usage weeks.

Omarion Hampton rushed 13 times for 56 yards in the Chargers’ Week 14 win over the Eagles, adding 11 yards and a touchdown on two receptions.

Hampton ceded the start to backfield mate Kimani Vidal but ended with the same number of touches, finding the end zone on the team’s first possession of the game on a four-yard strike to the flat. He walked into the end zone thanks to elite blocking from wide receiver Keenan Allen, who managed to take both his cornerback and a linebacker out of the play. Hampton should continue to see his usage ramped up as he works his way back into game shape, potentially in line to see a heavier workload when the Chargers travel to Kansas City to take on the desperate Chiefs in Week 15.

Kimani Vidal played 51-74 snaps (69%) while Omarion Hampton played 23-74 snaps (31%). You'd hope after a week of practice Hampton gets over 50% next game.

Kinda wrong. He only had a 31% snap share but he did do a lot with it. I expect that to ramp up next week.

There were a couple of plays I saw where Vidal got completely run over. If that's the deciding factor it should be easy to overcome

Unfortunately Vidal got run over on a play where Herbert escaped and had a big run anyway, while Hampton whiffed badly on two blocks that led to big sacks, one of which I think might've even been a Herbert fumble.

Neither pass blocked well. I’ll give Hampton a pass because he’s been out for over two months.

From a FF perspective, Hampton played more than I expected him to. Had to start him due to injuries and byes and was happy with the output. Bet he plays more next week.
 
Perhaps if the Chargers' center would actually block someone, Hampton and Vidal wouldn't be getting run over as much.

Back to the topic, both looked good and had their moments. I'd expect Hampton's share to increase as he gets back to game levels.

Coach speak. They drafted Hampton to be a bell cow and he will be. They are lucky to have Vidal as a wonderful backup. Expect 65/35 going forward.

Yeah, in dynasty I'm still very optimistic. He's looked good when he plays and that offense consistently produces RB value. I took him at 1.2 in a non-ppr league and don't regret it at all.
 
Coaches aren't usually diplomatic at this point in the season. We get burned usually thinking they will be or coach speak.

I'd expect Haskins to pass block now that he's returned. Idk that it matters, the two backs didn't do too much on third down, but see a lot of posts above about that. Harbaugh has confidence in Haskins so...

I lean to the rookie since he's the elite talent.

I've got him on my bench in some of the leagues where I have him, was really hoping I'd be starting him this week but with the split with Vidal and the matchup against KC I'm going with safer options where I have them. I'm expecting stats similar to what he just had against the Eagles (10~15 carries for 60ish yards and maybe a catch or 2) but without the TD

Trying to decide between two of these guys in a league where I’m a moderate dog, so chasing upside.

Harvey, Hampton, Tracy, Judkins, and Neal.

Harvey seems like one, and leaning Hampton or Judkins (with Sampson out) as the second.

Going to keep an eye on reports and maybe try ayacusa trip to let the gods decide 😂

All that said, still better off than the Najee Harris truthers, so…

I have no shares of either. My only regret is not buying super low on Vidal when it was going to be Najee/Hampton. What an absolute steal that woulda been.
 
Pretty sure they gonna give their 1st round RB who has looked good when healthy some runway here over a sixth round back last year who has done well as an injury replacement.

If anything I’d be all over this as a dynasty owner trying to buy as many shares as I could on Hampton.
