Eagles Notes: Eagles' Westbrook will play vs. Cowboys

By Jeff McLane

Inquirer Staff Writer

Eagles Notes

Eagles coach Andy Reid said that Brian Westbrook would play tomorrow against the Cowboys even though the running back was held out of most of practice yesterday and was listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

"He has had two hard days of work," Reid said. "And really [LeSean McCoy] hasn't gotten a ton of reps. So like I've done on other Fridays, I kept Brian out and limited."

Reid said that Westbrook, who missed the Giants game on Sunday after he suffered a concussion the previous week, took almost every repetition during practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Reid still plans on using a rotation, which would explain why he wanted to get McCoy more snaps.

Still, Westbrook was listed as questionable on Oct. 30 and did not play two days later. He woke up last Saturday with a headache, so the team decided to rest the 30-year-old. Reid said yesterday that Westbrook didn't have a recurrence of the headache and that he looked sharp in practice this week.

"I think he can contribute a bunch here," Reid said. "We've been rotating him, so that's what we'll continue to do."

Schefter just said there is big news out of Phi that a big offensive player is injured. Any news Eagle homers?

edited to add that I just saw it scroll on espn that Schefter is reporting Westbrook is unlikely to play.

Very odd. Practiced in full Wednesday and Thursday, took Friday off to rest (not unusual for Ried to do this, he's done it with Westbrook in the past.)

I can only imagine that he had a recurrance of headaches Friday or Saturday, or Andy REALLY want to make sure Westbrook is 100% ok before going with him. Have to think Philly wants Westbrook healthy for the stretch drive and playoffs...

CBS:

Brian Westbrook, RB PHINews: ESPN reports that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (concussion) will not play in Week 9 vs. Dallas. If Westbrook is indeed out, LeSean McCoy will start in his place.Analysis: Westbrook practiced in full on Wednesday and Thursday before taking the day off Friday, but apparently he's just not feeling well enough to take a hit just yet. Unfortunately for Fantasy owners, Sunday's game isn't until 8:20 p.m. ET, so you won't be able to find out until after this afternoon's games if Westbrook is officially inactive or not. If you have another RB option in the Cowboys game or the Monday night contest, then you can obviously afford to wait on things, but otherwise you might have to just roll with a healthy back in the 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. ET games. McCoy can be considered a No. 2 Fantasy RB for this matchup with the Cowboys.

Official lists aren't due until 90 minutes before game time... what's the chance he magically becomes available? I have a chance at going 9-0 based on this info and it's making my stomach knot...

Apparently Westbrook was held out of the game because he had a headache on Friday. Now - we don't know for sure if he had a headache because of the aftereffects of the concussion and full contact practice, or if it was just because he didn't want to have sex with coach Reid... but it's never worth taking the chance. I'm glad they held him out.

How are you westy owners value him at the moment? He seems like someone you can target on the cheap right now and maybe be the one guy that can carry your team.

Thanks much for the heads up. Due to this thread, I was able to put a sub in. Usually I'm away at church when this news hits, and its too late.
