RB Rhamondre Stevenson, NE (1 Viewer)

In all seriousness, this guy looks like a very, very legitimate NFL running back every time I've seen him run. He has, as somebody said, light feet for a big guy, and he finishes runs. Big time potential.

 
In addition to that, it seems the New England running back narrative needs to be updated. Some things we know are true

  • they are not spending significant money on backs
  • ball security is paramount
  • blocking and protection is key for them
That's obvious but why is that relevant to their usage? It's because they're all on limited or first contracts, meaning either they're not great all-around backs, or they're green and need seasoning. BB has used Harris in an all-around capacity this year and seems to have trusted Stevenson more than other younger guys when it comes to catching the ball. I have no idea what his hang-up was about Michel catching the ball. Let's crumple that one up and throw it out the window as an aberration. But he still likes backs for specific situations. That said, he has shown a willingness this year to let his backs be more multi-dimensional.

What does this mean for Stevenson?

Well, it means he has a lot of value. He catches the ball well and BB is letting him do that. He runs well and is dominant at the goal line, which if not for Harris's proficiency in that aspect as well, would be a boon to him. It may still come down to him taking on the goal line role.

Either way, this guy is worth an investment, IMO. He's one of the best backs of that draft, and is showing it. There's a reason he got the starting job over Sermon, it seems.

Very little difference between him & Najee Harris on talent alone, IMO. That tells you how much of a steal he was in my mind.

Of course, situation is the elephant in the room. I like Stevenson to eventually be a feature back, though.

 
I'm salty I dropped him on Friday after reports saying he was doubtful and missing practice. My plan was 100% starting him this week until that. You hate to see it.

Harris owner who grabbed Bolden for handcuff insurance who was going Stevenson as the long term handcuff until concussion news. Ended up dropping Bolden and picked up Stevenson with slightly encouraging news on Thursday. Then Friday news was discouraging and many bailed on Stevenson here. I held and said this is who I wanted all along. Harris on IR and Stevenson on Bench. Ended up starting Taylor and J Williams with Montgomery on a bye. It seemed the prudent thing to do. At least I have Stevenson.

That being said, Rockanation, BB has kept us wondering what he's doing for his own reasons and everything you state is also true; ball security, pass blocking, do your job, etc. Perhaps sometimes I wonder if he intentionally keeps a player out to keep him fresh and avoid injury, it is a long season. Or if that RB doesn't match the game plan for that week. If other teams don't know his strategy how are we fantasy owners supposed to know? Now there is the talent and "it" factor. Stevenson has something going on, how will he get used going forward with Harris? I have read where a few analysts believe Stevenson is the better back going forward in the long run. That got my intention. 

Edit: I had a sense about Stevenson. Picked him up in 3 leagues, and then dropped him back on Friday in two. The team with Harris is the handcuff, and now he is a definite hold and keep. He'll be a hot waiver wire pick up going in week 11, but with reservations because of Harris status. Remember some weeks a NE RB goes off for 2-3 TD's, then disappears for a week or two.

Some of the worst posts come on potential back ups or guys that might get a crack to start due to injury, it's not one player or one post, it's an epidemic that posters are going to talk themselves and anyone that will listen completely out of starting a player that could potentially win them their match up for the week.

I'm deliberating over Rhamondre Stevenson tonight, Foreman or Elijah Mitchell/Jeff Wilson Sunday. 

If Damien Harris was out this would be a no brainer.

Well, I have him in over Mitchell right now, but I can play a lot of flexes so Mitchell may find his way into my lineup another way.

 
This week I have to pick 2 from (Stevenson - Foreman - Alex Collins - Jeff Wilson).   I think I'm going Forman and Stevenson, but I have very little confidence that it will work out for Stevenson.    Hoping for one goal line touchdown and some scraps.

Not sure I can play him over Darrell Williams, jacobs, or dj Moore.   But moore and jacobs aren't exactly lighting it up.....

I am playing him over DJ Moore (same league as above). So you should probably play Moore.

 
Between him, Miles Sanders, and Meyers in the flex (starting Conner and Carter at RB with Jones in the infirmary). 

Gonna roll with Stevenson I think. I'm betting that he gets a TD. I'm not sure I can trust Sanders yet and Meyers is always a ?

Damien Harris, Rhamondre Stevenson and Brandon Bolden all active for NE. JJ Taylor is OUT. I have Harris > Stevenson but think Stevenson is flex worthy. At least 12 pts for Stevenson in 2 of the last 3 he has played with Harris also active.

 
Hate Bolden being active. Going to start him anyway in a league where I'm quasi-punting the week anyway given the general status of the league but pulling him for Alex Collins where it's important

 
I avoid Patriots RBs. If I knew Harris or Stevenson was going to get the lion's share of touches I'd be happy to go with either.  Belichick would probably make it Brandon Bolden week if I did that.

Bolden is usually "just" a special teamer. So that's probably his primary function tonight with both Harris and Stevenson active as well. 

 
I have little choice but to start Stevenson tonight with Henderson on a bye and Elijah Mitchell being a question mark.  I'm looking at Marquez Callaway, Elijah Moore, and Marvin Jones as my other choices.

I have Kamara, Carter and Dillon over him right now.. But I'm afraid of sitting him and Kamara being held out another week. Wish he didn't play tonight

 
I went 50/50 for most part on starting him tonight. Pretty much agree with what someone quoted Matthew Berry said a few posts up, he's a solid flex guy but I think Harris is still the clear cut primary RB.

Love the guy and think when all is said and done he's got a great shot at being the best fantasy RB of the Bill Belichick area, yes including Dillon. But I don't think his time is here yet.

 
I pulled the trigger and put him in. Kamara not practicing today worries me. And if Kamara is active, I'll put him in over Carter .. Hoping for 50-60 yards and a TD tonight

NE doesn’t usually rotate running RBs on a series. They will give RS work on his own series. Given that the guys you mentioned only got 3 yards on 3 carries, Stevenson will get his chance. 

 
After completely whiffing on pass block that got Mac Jones sacked, don’t think we will see him again this game.

 
There’s just not a ton of margin for error when you’re in a 3 way split. Looked great one series then second series got blown up and that’s it for the half. I started him along with Harris in one and benched him for Collins or Golladay in another.

A free rusher off the edge is not the responsibility of a running back doing a play action fake lol. They are alternating series even after that.

 
He and Harris were both effective and looked good. Unfortunately for fantasy, it looked similar to the Denver split tonight... with the Bolden factor added in. 

 
Rhamondre Stevenson rushed 12 times for 69 yards in New England's Week 11 victory over Atlanta, adding a six-yard reception.

Sadly, Stevenson's best run of the night, a 28-yarder where he evaded multiple Falcons in the backfield, was called back on holding. This wasn't exactly a takeover of New England's backfield as Damien Harris and Stevenson roughly split series, with Harris spelling Stevenson in Atlanta territory a few times later in Stevenson's drives. But that Stevenson is carving that far into reps against a back Belichick trusts is noteworthy. Stevenson will be in the FLEX conversation for Week 12's matchup with the Titans.
