RB Saquon Barkley, PHI (2 Viewers)

I know some may disagree, but I think this is the best realistic landing spot for him. OBJ coming back, experienced QB, and absolutely no competition for carries. Sure, O-line sucks, but he’s going to see a ton of work both running and catching.

I’m leaning this way as well. Actually here or CLE at 4 with Mayfield. Best 2 outcomes imo.

What's the expected hit rate for OL in rounds 2 and 3? And what's the learning curve? Serious questions. I don't know.

Meh, I liked that CLE OL a lot better. But Shurmur and Solder give some hope. If Chubb goes to CLE in the 2nd round, I'll probably target him over Barkley in redraft for better value per auction dollar. But Barkley could earn his fantasy points in receptions alone. Zero legit competition in NY. I think Duke is a middling talent, but he'll still probably get a lot of 3rd down snaps in CLE this year.

 
I was somewhat hoping for Cleveland since I just thought it would be a good spot but I do agree this was the best for this year. Once Eli is gone in 2 years tho it could suck

Not sure on the hit rate but OL rookies can play well right off the bat - there are a couple of guys that were projected first rounders still available. Of course there's no guarantee they even pick OL of course.

I think if bums like Orelans Darkwa and Wayne Gallman can go over 4 yards per carry (last season), Barkely should be ok.

I'm warming up to the landing spot. Solder and Shurmur help. Eli isn't great but he's not worse than Keenum. OBJ and Shepard should be better than Thielen and an injured Diggs. And Barkely > Cooks/McKinnon/Murray.

I am a Giants fan (so theoretically) biased but I'm not sure what's not to like here given the options.

Now I don't mean the Giants don't have glaring weaknesses, but almost by definition, a team is going to have some serious holes if they are drafting high enough to get Barkley.

Now I get that the Giants OL has been terrible but as well as signing Solider they also signed Omameh to improve their guard play and have three picks in the next 40 or so.  I've seen Eli at his best and worst and convinced that you give him a bit more , or any, time to throw to the likes of Beckham, Engram, and Sheppard, he will look closer to the Superbowl winning QB than what we've seen the past few years.

Add to that that Barkley by himself improves Eli's protection with his own pass blocking as well as his ability to catch passes and keep the pass rushing honest and there is little serious competition for touches on the roster, and I think the landing spot is pretty damn good for fantasy purposes as well as real deal football.

 
The Giants had an awesome OL coach they let walk when Coughlin did. Hasn't been the same since. I think Shurmur brought on the Browns guy. He's got negative reviews but Mack and Thomas liked him so ...I don't know. 

It's really awesome for this franchise that they got Barkley. They haven't had a gem of a RB since the classic old days. Rodney Hampton was probably their last highly ranked running back predraft. Tiki was just a third down back, Jacobs had people questioning him, lil Joe was tiny....it's been a long time. I grew up in NJ and heard all these glory days stories. I'd bet there are a lot of elderly Giants fans smiling today. Good for them

Murray NOT being signed has wrecked his value. He probably can't get big money now. 

He was a terrific citizen, terrific locker room guy in Ten. He has excellent hands and blocks as well as anyone in the NFL. 

As long as he's cheap, he'd be an awesome guy to pair with Barkley.

Ron Dayne was probably the last highly ranked predraft guy they had.  Tiki of course ended up being amazing but like you said, wasn't a big-time prospect at draft time.

Tiki touched the ball almost 400 times/year from 2002-2006...he was incredibly underrated.  A 3rd down back early in his career maybe but he developed into a stud.

In fantasy you hope those glaring weaknesses are defense and RB :)

What I don't like is the OL. Solder is a good LT, but not tops in the league. He was still a nice signing for Barkley. It seems like Omameh is a replacement level starter at best, but still we can count him as an upgrade. Still have 3 spots to fill and zero depth, as far as I'm concerned. Additionally, I know we all expect QBs to last until they're 40 now, but the truth is Eli could fall off a cliff this year at 37, almost 38. Not saying it is likely, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities. 

But if Shurmur can produce an offense in NY like he did in MIN, then this could be a nice spot. The lack of legit RB competition is nice.

Yeah I think his point was just that Tiki was viewed as a 3rd down back at draft time.  He definitely became a major workhorse.

If Barkley approaches Tiki's best seasons than the everyone will be very happy in New York. Barber had a 5 year stretch where he averaged >2000 total yards and 10 TDs.

I was talking about the comparison between NYG and MIN, so was referring to Latavius Murray. But your point on Demarco Murray's free agency is true. He's competing with rookies and CJA for a landing spot now.

Tiki was a 3rd down back and special teamer according to draft people, but he sure outlived expectations.

Barkley is the first in oh so long that comes in advertised as a phenom or whatever word ya like

JMHO but I think before he got hurt Gurely was being talked about as that type of guy. I think had he not tore his knee Gurley heading into that year would've been as hyped or more. That and he was suspended for a dumb NCAA Violation

Ok that makes more sense then. I just think a lot of people are caught up in the moment with Barkley and forget before Gurley tore his ACL and was suspended all his JR yr that he was regarded as the best RB in the draft in a very long time and a top 3 pick. I don't think Barkley is terrible just think he's not gonna be as good as advertised in the NFL. PSU has a long history of RB's other then Larry Johnson not panning out in NFL. Barkley is a good player however I think NYG was better off Taking a QB or trading back. Gonna be tough for Barkley to run behind still a suspect line

I think with the way RB's are valued today we won't be seeing that. Heck if the Peterson case was still going on with RB's you'd have seen Bell locked up on a huge long term deal right now. Murray probably is still in Dal as well, and Shady probably locked up to a long term deal in Philly that same season. Unless the guy is the next Emmitt Smith I don't see him getting close to a deal like that considering RB shelf life in the NFL these days. It's just not a good use of financial resources especially for a team who doesn't have a building block of QB of the future.

If Barkley isn't special it'll be a bust but it won't be a bad pick. In this current era, we're amidst a weird time with RBs being oh so strongly devalued. I don't think a team is wrong to take a shot on the best back and a highly regarded one. Trent Richardson stunk but I don't fault the Browns for that. He looked special to me too.

I imagine they draft Mason Rudolph after the Browns pick. If so, I think that'd be a nice draft. I understand the QB concern, but as long as they do draft Rudolph then they're all set

In regards to the value of the RB position being devalued I do think it has been and I agree with several of the reasons for that. 

Barkley is a great receiver however and if you were to just compare him to the other WR in the draft class he is likely the best one. Plus he can run the ball.

You are going to pay the 2nd round pick a lot of money but RB being the cheapest position on average makes Barkley more expensive than other positions in a relative sense. The Giants have to allocate a larger percentage of their cap space to RB than they would otherwise.

For some context, LaMont Jordan was mentioned this offseason in the list of NFL RBs highest salaries. Curtis Martin is STILL being paid off by the Jets http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/curtis-martin-13656/ 

We're in a different era where RBs are a dime a dozen except for the elite few. 

Barkley will be overpaid if he's not a gem but so will LeVeon (soon) if he eventually gets hurt and doesn't produce. 

Eli Manning makes 37mil. If they drafted a QB there that'd be like 25% at one position and people would bark about that.

It's a necessary evil with the second pick. At least it's not the old days where they could negotiate for even bigger $.

Ya gotta take in that the cap is going up at a bigger rate too and that these are slotted. Times change. Barry didn't even make more than 2 mil per til his final deal that he didn't finish. That one was like 5 mil per. That doesn't mean Lamont Jordan was better than Barry but times changed and the market value changed

No matter who they took, there would be risk. Just less risk with Barkley.

Important point for sure. I mean Jimmy G has played less than a season and he already likely made more $ than Marino, Montana, Young and Elway combined. As for the point about Eli's money, they are stuck paying  $68 million for Eli +2nd round pick no matter what. Tying up $68 million for a staring QB over 5 years and a back-up QB for 2 years is pretty normal for the NFL right now.
