RB Jackson Wants 20+ Carries A Game

Source: Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com

Original Article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...ce=NFLHeadlines

Summary: Running Back Steven Jackson believes that the key to wins is for him to run 20+ times a game. Hard to ignore his plea when over the 5 times he's rushed 20+ times St. Louis has won all 5 games and Jackson has averaged 130+ yards per. Says Jackson: "Do I think I could run for 2,000 yards if I got the ball 20 or 25 times a game? I think it's possible. I even went to [running backs coach] Wayne Moses the other day and told him, 'Now don't be teasing me. Don't be telling me what you think I want to hear just to pacify me.' And he reassured me that I'm going to get my carries."

Personal view: There's a lot to like about a running back going to his coaches with statistics that verify how well his team does when he gets his carries. As Jackson says, though, the proof is in the pudding. Will the new coach finally use Jackson as a workhorse?

Jackson has all the tools to be an elite back. He has size, can find the hole and has elusive speed. He does have a tendency to get dinged though and that will have to be addressed. It seems like the games he got those 20+ carries he was questionable on the injury report the following week.

Bottom line, this is a guy who is 6' almost 230 lbs with good speed and vision. with a solid balance of run/pass, the sky is the limit.

SoloMatisse found this a few weeks back.

CBS Sportsline

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the Rams coaches want to get Steve Jackson 20 touches a game.

"The way he used Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown and the running backs in Minnesota, he feels he has that all in one (with me)," Jackson told StLouisRams.com. "I’m pretty sure I will get a lot of touches."
It's coming from CBS Sportsline, so take it FWIW

Whenever I watch that guy play, he always seems like he's missing something to be a truly great player. If I had to pin it down to one thing, he doesn't appear to have good instincts for the position. If a hole is there, he is golden, but if not it's like he's charging into a wall. He truly has impressive physical gifts, but i don't see that special quality in him

The guy is a beast. He will be a top talent for years to come. Expect Top 10 numbers from him AGAIN this year. A great year for him and he'll be in the Top 5.
