RB Tevin Coleman, SF (1 Viewer)

Yes folks, it is now safe to cut him, he sucks. Should have been cut weeks ago, but now it's a no brainer. 1 fluky week fooled us all, shame on me.

Tevin Coleman rushed five times for six yards in the 49ers' Week 13 loss to the Ravens, adding a nine-yard reception.

Yikes. Coleman got the start but quickly gave way to Raheem Mostert, who declined to hand the reins back as he ripped one chunk gain after another. Mostert finished 19/146/1 on the ground. Coleman has averaged 2.48 yards on 49 carries in five games since his four-score outburst in Week 8, totaling 122 rushing yards. Even considering the 49ers' offensive line injuries, that is pathetic production in one of the league's best-designed rushing attacks. With Matt Breida (ankle) nearing a return, it appears Coleman's RB2 moment is over. Even if Breida misses Week 14 against the Saints, Coleman will provide a zero-point floor as a FLEX.

Frightening performance.

Can't trust him.

Have a bye week. Maybe the pendulum swings back in this backfield by week 15.

Don't do it.  He is terrible & that is why he was always behind a below average back in Freeman. He is kalen ballage on a good team.

Mostert is much better.  He actually runs forward and tries to gain yards. Coleman gets the handoff walks up to the line looks around & falls over. He isn't hurt, he just sucks like he did in Atlanta.
Do you think the 49ers are just figuring this out? Don't they watch these guys in practice, and games?

Who is dropping?

I'm in a 12 team PPR league with 8 max spots for RBs where I can start 2 in the flex. Not even sure he is startable in a 2nd flex spot. Breida back and Mostert on the rise.

I have a bye this week but now I'm looking at weeks 15 (vs ATL) and weeks 16 (vs LAR). I could see Coleman being startable in week 15 possibly but not against the Rams run D.

Thinking of dropping for P. Laird. The Miami offense is cooking and their week 15 and 16 schedule looks great -- @NYG, CIN. Those are two sweet matchups. Is there any reason to believe that Laird can't outscore Coleman these two weeks?

Just don't see a ton of upside with Coleman while Laird could be one of those out of nowhere players that help during championship weeks.

Tevin Coleman rushed three times for six yards in the 49ers' Week 14 win over the Saints.

He wasn't targeted in the passing game. After being benched last week, Coleman was the clear No. 3 back in New Orleans. All three of his carries came early in the third quarter, and after losing three yards on a 3rd-and-1, Coleman never saw another touch. Coleman can safely be dropped in redraft leagues.

Tevin Coleman rushed 22 times for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 49ers' Divisional Round win over the Vikings.

The two-score day came after Coleman found the end zone once in nine games following his four-score outburst in Week 8. Both Cousins and Raheem Mostert were gutting the Vikings' defensive front on an afternoon where Jimmy Garoppolo had zero success as a passer. Today's revival probably wasn't terribly instructive ahead of an NFC Championship Game showdown with either the Packers or Seahawks. Coach Kyle Shanahan will continue to ride the "hot hand." It could just as easily be Mostert as Coleman in Week 20.

Speaking following Sunday's NFC Championship Game victory over the Packers, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan refused to rule Tevin Coleman (shoulder) out for Super Bowl LIV.

Coleman's injury was tough to watch on replay, but initial testing evidently returned good news. "I’m hoping he’ll be all right next week," Shanahan said. "I don’t totally know yet. I know he’s not ruled out or anything. I think there will be a good chance (for him to go)." Raheem Mostert was literally historically good in Coleman's absence vs. the Pack, but Coleman lead the Niners' attack in the Divisional Round. The 49ers will do most of their install this week but will not be required to issue official injury reports until next week. DFS players will have to sit tight for the time being, though Mostert will obviously be the priority play even if Coleman is active.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tevin Coleman suffered a dislocated shoulder in the NFC Championship game against the Packers.

Shanahan said Coleman got it popped back in and has a chance to play in the Super Bowl in 13 days. Raheem Mostert earned as much work as he can handle following his massive performance against Green Bay, but Coleman could perhaps be in line for a few touches. Overall, it's good news for Coleman after he had to be carted off.

Tevin Coleman rushed five times for 28 yards in the 49ers' Super Bowl LIV loss to the Chiefs, adding a three-yard reception.

The 49ers ran over everybody this year, but Coleman struggled to get in on the fun. Slow out of the gates because of an early-season ankle injury, Coleman had a strong return in Week 5 before exploding for four touchdowns in Week 7. He averaged 3.21 yards per carry the rest of the way, making him an outlier in the 49ers’ well-blocked, better-schemed rushing attack. By the time it was all said and done, Coleman had been passed by seven-team journeyman Raheem Mostert on the depth chart. Coleman briefly revived in the Divisional Round but injured his shoulder early in the NFC Championship Game. None of Coleman’s $4.55 million 2020 salary is guaranteed.

Bumpity bump.

Thoughts on him going into 2020?

I think he's interesting.  He's in a great running offense.  I think it's likely a 60-40 split in favor of Mostert.  But 40% can still be pretty good.  Just trying to think volume outloud:  I can see him getting ~140 rushes, at his career average of 4.3, you're at 600-650 rushing yards.  He's solid in the passing game, and Breida leaving opens up some catches.  Perhaps another 25-35 catches for 250 yards.

Going back to 2016, his TD totals are 11, 8, 9, 7.  That's despite missing 6 games.  Which, he could miss some time again.  But 7-8 TD's doesn't seem unreasonable.  He's probably a low end flex play with tons of upside should Mostert go down.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said it will be Tevin Coleman's choice to sit in Week 1 if the air in San Francisco doesn't clear.

Coleman, who was held out of practice Friday with preexisting sickle cell trait, will have the choice to be inactive if he feels like the air quality in the Bay Area remains polluted (AQI of 150-plus). The simple move for fantasy players is to roster Jerick McKinnon (wherever applicable) to keep on standby just in case. If Coleman sits, Raheem Mostert would likely handle 20-plus carries with McKinnon seeing 6-8 targets on passing downs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers are "still uncertain whether RB Tevin Coleman will play today against Arizona" due to air quality concerns.

Coleman has a pre-existing heart condition that could be negatively affected by the poor air quality in the Bay Area. Smoke from the California wildfires has diminished the air quality in the city to the point of putting the entire game in jeopardy. If Coleman were to sit out, Raheem Moster would see the bulk of the team's carries. Jerrick McKinnon's role would spike as well. McKinnon hasn't played a snap in two seasons but could return to a flex-worthy role this week.

@jumper please... rename the thread!

Tevin Coleman rushed four times for 18 yards, catching 1-of-2 targets for six yards in San Francisco's Week 1 loss to the Cardinals.

Initially expected to sit due to the unhealthy Air Quality Index in the Bay Area, Coleman suited up and was used as the third man in the pecking order behind Raheem Mostert (19/151/1) and Jerick McKinnon (6/44/1). It's a worrisome timeshare since Coleman presumably wouldn't have played at all if it wasn't safe to begin with. Fantasy players should hold him for one more week, but be prepared to cut ties in Week 3 if he receives a similar workload against the Jets.

Tevin Coleman also suffered a knee injury and the team is waiting for MRI results. Kyle Shanahan said he's concerned.

49ers placed RB Tevin Coleman (knee) on injured reserve.

Coleman is expected to miss a month. It's a more serious injury than Raheem Mostert’s MCL sprain. The 49ers will go with a committee of Jerrick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson while Coleman and Mostert are sidelined. Coleman is unlikely to return before Week 7.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said there's an "outside chance" Tevin Coleman (knee, IR) returns in Week 8.

Coleman is over a month removed from his knee injury. That lines him up with the four week timetable he was given in late September. Coleman would likely be returning to a starting role with Raheem Mostert (ankle, IR) and Jeff Wilson (questionable, calf) sidelined. Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty will lead the 49ers' Week 7 committee.

So once Coleman comes back, which sounds like it should be in one or two weeks, will he regain the number one role, putting McKinnon and Hasty behind him?

Who knows? I've learned not to trust the analysis from Rotoworld as it changes daily, but if you can stash him on IR I think he's worth a shot to see how it plays out. The staff there love the guy.

49ers designated RB Tevin Coleman (knee) to return from injured reserve.

San Francisco opened Coleman's 21-day window Wednesday, and he's eligible to return at any moment now. He hasn't played since Week 2. With the Niners already without Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson due to ankle sprains, they could use Coleman's presence alongside Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty. There's a chance Coleman is back this week against Seattle.

I highly doubt he’s active this week. The guy has been out since week 2 and will need a solid week of practice before being ready.

I’m also skeptical he’s back this week. On 95.7 it was reported yesterday that Shanny said he has “an outside chance” at playing this week.

That sounds like it’s not a great chance. 🤷🏼‍♂️

You think you know but when he gets 25 touches for 175 and 3tds this weekend...then you will know haha
He has to practice a couple times for that to even be a remote possibility.

He had a rather significant knee injury to keep him out 5 weeks. And Hasty looked damn good.

I’m not seeing why they’d push him back this week if they don’t need to.

Healthy or not, I don't think Coleman is that good, but that system seems to churn out effective RB after effective RB. And Shanahan seems to like him, so that means something.

Yes, if he plays. And if he plays, I’d expect a RBBC with Hasty/Coleman working early downs & McKinnon on 3rd.

Yea I was just thinking anyone that thinks they know what will happen week to week in that backfield should just quit playing FF and buy a powerball ticket.

I'm a 49ers fan. I take a very realistic approach. And if you were saying that, you should have said that. I see no way Coleman gets "20-25 touches" this week.  I understand Wilson just came back and did that, but his injury was far less severe, reportedly.

Anyway, it's all moot until he returns to practice, which, it should be noted, he has not yet (others in the report have). Shanny said he hopes he can return to practice & something will be decided late in the week about whether Coleman returns this week or next. I suspect he would have to get in at least 1 practice & they'd see how he responds.

That said I can't see him getting a full workload. Never know what will happen, but we can make educated guesses based on the injury & how desperate the team is to have him back. My guess is that if Coleman does get in a partial practice & responds well, he'd be the "emergency RB" if something happens to Hasty or McKinnon.  But again, I'm speculating.

Yea shoulda clarified I was joking. What's not a joke is my hot sauce, grew some carolina reapers this year and have it fermenting with some habanero, cayenne, jalepeno and serrano. Let's trade recipes.

Sounds delicious, but a recipe trade is unlikely since I sell mine for a living. ;)

I don't get why Shanny still keeps him as an RB option in his offense. Every RB but Coleman puts up huge numbers in this offense yet Coleman is still expected to be in the mix, I don't get it.

His rushing attempts and yards this year in 2 games:

4 for 18

14 for 12

2019 week 1-17

137 for 544, less than 4 YPC

My quick takes and I've had a couple of them rostered in Redraft and have one in the stable currently...

-Raheem Mostert: He is the RB1 without question and anytime he isn't on the IR he is likely to get the start and see plenty of touches or snaps, coaches love him and he seems to get results when he isn't injured.

-Tev Coleman: He has looked the worst when given more snaps and touches, at least his production does not match that of the other Backs who all seem to have success. But But But and this is key as we discuss other RBs in San Fran right now...Coleman played under Shanny with success in Atlanta and was figured to do well when he came over to San Fran. Shanny had a huge hand in his development and being signed by San Fran, it would seem Coach Kyle does not like to move on when it seems like an easy fix or solution, just get another Back, there's plenty on the roster and most seem to do well. Whenever Coleman starts to practice I would expect him to be involved in the offense and if he ever starts to look like he did in Atlanta under Shanny, this backfield will be even more crowded than it is now.

-Jerrick McKinnon: More of an emotional support dog than he is anything else right now. He is the genie in the bottle that can make wishes come true, he has to encased in bubble wrap and put out in a display case for everyone to view but not touch. He makes Fantasy Managers that roster him feel better that they have them on the roster but they can't actually use him for much. We hear he is the galloping ghost in dark corners of old seedy bars filled with sailors, but the reality is McKinnon is not worth that much now. He was quite valuable the 1st week it appeared he had a straight path to start and was the only RB standing when Moster and Coleman went down, it was his time to shine and seize the controls, how'd that work out?

JaMycal Hasty:  Don't know a lot about him but I liked what I saw this past Sunday when he was called upon. He was running with a chip on his shoulder is how I would describe it. Some call it "running hard" but I like to say running with conviction, he wasn't waiting around to absorb hits, he was plant and GO! Whatever holes are there, he's gonna find them quickly. I don't see the Niners having a great match up trying to run the football which is why I think Kittle and Aiyuk will benefit and have pretty strong days. But since so many guys are injured it would seem logical Hasty should have at least half the snaps and produce I'll say 75 yds of offense and maybe a TD. I don't think that's over projecting for 1 week with the Niners style of offense. McKinnon could possibly get similar if they give him enough touches.

Jeff WIlson: Poor guy, probably the best of the bunch. Whenever he gets a decent amount of touches in a game he has a new career day it seems. He's like the guy who fixes cars but every once in a while he gets to take the Airbender around the track a few times and you wonder why he isn't a race car driver himself.

(Total SF Gumshoe Voice-1940s) "Yeah, the San Francisco backfield remains a mystery ladies and gentlemen"

49ers GM John Lynch said the team is “hopeful” Tevin Coleman (knee) will be available for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.

Coleman was given a "heavy workload" in practice this week. The 49ers want to see how his knee responds, but barring setbacks, he should return Sunday. With Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson on IR, Coleman looks like the Week 8 touch favorite. He'll be part of a three back committee with Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty.
