Rec leagues - whatcha playing? (1 Viewer)

What kind of rec leagues are FBGs in? I've played flag football for about 4-5 years (playing indoor now) and floor hockey. Both are fun times and help me stay in shape.

What are others playing?

Been playing broomball for 8 years and sand volleyball forever. Bailed on indoor volleyball, kick ball, and soft ball post kids. I have a spot saved for me for flag football if my Saturday mornings ever free up again.

How's broomball? They just opened up a league near me - that was a Midwestern thing that has become pretty popular, right?

best rec game when the competition is good, but probably the worst if it's not. When it's not it's really just light jogging on ice for a few minutes at a time. Good games though. Really challenges you physically and mentally. Lose focus for a moment and bad things will happen.

Played a season of Broomball. Good god is it violent. Maybe it was just the league/tournaments we were in but it was far worse than senior hockey.

indoor volleyball. played flag football in my 20s, but by 30s people were dropping out because of kid commitments, getting older, etc. do volleyball 2-3 a week.

When I was single I played basketball, flag football, softball, roller hockey, soccer, and racquetball. Those were awesome days.

Now I just play in golf and softball leagues.

Just golf now, Coach my daughter travel softball.

I gave up playing ice hockey, baseball, softball about 10 years ago

Just 2 softball leagues...spring through fall. I "retired" from my basketball league this season at the age of 44. Just getting too hard to compete against guys in their 20's that can jump out of the gym and are gung ho about winning. Ate some elbows and sprained an ankle last year and figured it was a good time to get out before I blew a knee or tore an achilles. I'd like to get in an old mans league since I miss it but haven't done that yet.

On my way to my first flag football game of the season - best time of the year.  It's  freaking gorgeous out too.

Probably gonna be a mediocre team - sell high.

Ultimate - we have a soccer field at our office, it's pretty much jogging and getting some sun. Used to play all time in good leagues (really popular in Seattle area) but had to scale that back. The most fun sport for me after you learn all the throws, have a good group, and if you like to run a lot. Basketball pickup games at gym -  ##### factor is high in pickup basketball. Finding a good group to play with was key factor in enjoying the game. Racquetball - have semi regular game with couple friends from work. Most gyms with courts also have a ladder to meet players as well.

All much better than working out.

Not a rec league but basketball with the same group of guys for the past three years.  This is the first year that father time may have caught up to me.  I'm not the worlds greatest player or anything but I could take over games and dominate in stretches but those stretches are happening fewer and fewer this year.  Actually started affecting my confidence on the court.  Haven't decided if it's old-age or just not putting in any practice during the week.  Adding a few stretches of a month or more of not playing at all and it's really affected my handles.

I play flag football A couple times a year with these early 20s kids and can dominate for a day but I'll never tell them this , but it takes me about a week to recover afterwards.  I actually haven't gone in quite a while because of the basketball thing and I'm worried it'll translate onto the football field.

Getting old sucks a bag a donkey #####

Hey man, keep it up.  I'm not sure your age, but the older folks in our flag league are some of the best, as they usually have the best hands and are natural defenders, knowing how to play well on space (which is helpful in our league, where its 8 on 8 coed).  Even if they lack the speed and athleticism compared to the younger folks, they usually make up for it in those areas.

Also, they make more money than those of us on our 20s, so they end up buying rounds afterwards, thus making them very valuable additions to our team.

Lol, thanks man. Yeah, speed is something I got lucky with. It's the endurance I'm hurting at. I used to be able to run full bore, 110%. This would give me a  psychological edge over my opponents. Again I'm not the most talented guy in the world  but I've always been blazing fast and pride myself on crazy hustle.  I've always found that most people don't want to outwork me. It's just that I've been getting tired lately, and that something that's never happened before.

I guess I just got to work harder at it these days.

Fall leagues must are rolling right now.  Whatcha playing?

Just got home from my second flag football game and we got killed for a second straight week.  Mostly new players on our team, trying to get used to each other.   Beautiful two weekends, though.

Same this year. Going into week 4 of "fall" ball.
I'm 37 and have been pitching for a long time. I took a few hits off of my legs during the spring and decided to give up that position. I have a family and job, I can't be taking line drives off these crazy bats from 46' out. (thus, my user name) I really can't believe I did it for so long now that I've stopped.

If you're 46' away when he swings you're doing it wrong.

Practice and suit up when short handed for my mens basketball team but try to avoid it at 45.  Went 6-10 on threes last season.  Just finishing up baseball season.  Catch and DH.

Part of why i quit (well, several of us).  Our pitcher got hit a few times and i took far too many nasty hops at third.

Too many guys taking even neer like leagues too seriously.  Just wasnt fun anymore.

Would like to get back to basketball.  Or even a spccer leagie wjere they know im not all that skilled.  Have the emdurance and am quick.   Dodnt play much since i was younger...but have coached and am a huge fan.  Would like to get in to playing

I play in the local over 50 and over 60 leagues spring thru fall. In the over 60 its required for pitchers to wear a mask and several optionally wear catchers leg guards. 1.21 bats were also banned this summer in both leagues.
