Just based on that clip...

Then again, I have found that I have the most hard to categorize and predict sense of humor of anyone I know.
It looks like the dumbest show ever created but it's actually the smartest with the most subtle nuance and deep philosophical undertone of any shows I've ever watched.

that's the point I was trying to make.  It's an incredibly smart show.  If you or anyone else have a better clip to show what it's like, feel free to link to it.

By the way, a more recent SyFy channel show I loved the first season of is Killjoys.  Season 2 was decent though not quite as good.  I haven't watched season 3 yet, still on the DVR.
Solid recommendation.  OP was looking for dark dystopian without spiritual elements, Killjoys is spot on.

For what it's worth, I feel like the third season rebounded from some of the weaker aspects of season 2.  It's tighter, more action, less cerebral.  Haven't finished it, but if you liked it enough to stay with it through two seasons, you should watch the third.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles should have been given at least one more season. I liked most of what we got anyway. At two seasons it's not much of an investment.

Westworld comes out on video on November 7th.
With his brother's issues I would stay away from Westworld.

No, it takes five episodes to warm up. I just watched the meseeks episode five and it's awesome. Then again, I'm a bit buzzed.

"Rick, I just killed my family!"

"Most people would pay for that kind of breakthrough."

Meseeks.

I like Dark Matter - Canadian space show from Syfy channel that's on Netflix.  I won't claim it's world-altering or anything, but it holds my attention.

ETA: It's kind of a darker Star Trek - ship flies around, encounters people and aliens, but the crew has amnesia and gradually learns they're the bad guys.

Does the whole Netflix Marvel set of shows work for him?  Daredevil / Jessica Jones / Luke Cage / Iron Fist / Defenders.

Okay, I spoiler tagged it.  You're right, it got cancelled after 3 seasons, though I haven't watched the 3rd yet so I don't know the status at the end.

I know you're looking for Sci-fi... but I want to mention... the comedy improv show Whose Line Is It Anyway is still running on the CW.  That show makes me laugh like no other ever has. Sometimes if I watch a couple of episodes in a row my face hurts from smiling so much.

I've thought to myself that if I ever had cancer I'd probably have a marathon and watch every single episode just to stay positive from all the laughing.

I keep hoping that Most Extreme Elimination Challenge will show up on a streaming service - I've never laughed as hard as I did at that show.
