Reche Caldwell (1 Viewer)

I know Brady spreads it around, but it seems Reche has entrenched himself as the #1 WR (for what thats worth) on NE. Given Brady's penchant for utilizing all his backs, WRs, and TEs, can we assume Reche Caldwell can be relied on as a WR2 on a playoff roster? Interested on feedback...

:hophead:

I don't know but the dude has HUGE eyes and always looks like somebody just told him his house is on fire. WIDE eyes.

unless you have weird rules, I'd rank him below Terry Glenn and above Keyshawn Johnson, so, yes.

As long as he keeps improving on his numbers, he can have three eyes for all I care! :) I too consider using him as a decent WR2 or a flex... Somehow, I think the fact that Brady spreads it around to everyone as an advantage for Caldwell -- a misguided position to take maybe, but we'll see as the season rolls on...

I was very skeptical of Caldwell but he is really turning into a solid WR. Right now he is by far the Pats top WR target. Somewhere along the line the lightbulb went on with him and he's been running nice patterns and has really started to click with Brady. The fact that the rest of the WR corps isn't exactly lighting it up is another bonus for Caldwell owners. Right now Gabriel's in the doghouse, Gaffney's a role player and no one really knows what the deal with Jax is. Troy Brown is Troy Brown which means he's a solid real football player but has little fantasy value.

I would not hesitate to use him in my starting lineup althugh I'd feel much more comfortable with him as a #3 than a #2. While he's getting a solid amount of balls thrown his way (at least by Patriot standards) he still plays for a team that likes to spread it around so a low stat game is always a possibility.

There was an article in the paper last week on how Brady and Caldwell have really been connecting lately, and how Brady even helped him with his route-running in practice. Then this past week he sees 14 targets and has quite the productive week. I say going forward he should continue to see those targets and would be considered a borderline #2. I'm considering him as my #2 over coles this week based on matchups.

Interesting tidbit there raidersfan.I just picked him up off waivers and dropped Mason (despite Mason's good week vs. Bengals). We're PPR as well, and a 10/99 day is superb... and the number of looks Caldwell got last week was amazing, in the red zone as well (though I don't think he scored?). Brady's been searching for his Deion Branch all year... I wonder if he's now found him?

It's debatable between Caldwell and Glenn - Glenn is catching a lot of TDs that Caldwell is not:

Caldwell = 46-574-3 on 76 targets, 60% catch percentage

Glenn = 50-675-6 on 76 targets, 65% catch percentage

Glenn is more dependable, esp. in PPR leagues, and is more likely to receive targets in the red zone. 4 TDs on 8 catches with 12 targets in the red zone.

Caldwell has more potential upside, but is less dependable and less targeted in the red zone: 2 TDs on 6 catches in 9 targets.

The numbers favor Glenn on third/fourth and long, too. Finally, if you want to cite Owens on Dallas, then you need to acknolwedge that Watson is Brady's favorite target on third/fourth and long and in the red zone.

I respect your preference, but the two players are pretty close, going forward.
