Recommended AWD Sedan (1 Viewer)

It appears that my current ride (2005 bmw convertible with 100k miles) will only garner me $7k - $8k via trade-in. Maybe another rack if I sell it privately. I love my ride and although I want a truck, the $12k'ish price difference between what I'd get for the bmw vs a used truck (with 60k'ish miles) is not appealing to me. I still need another car though so I've turned my sights to an AWD sedan (4WD is a must since none of our current vehicles has it)

What brands/models do my fellow FBGs recommend? We put no more than 7k-8k per year on our vehicles, so I don't mind buying used if it makes sense economically. Let's set the upper price range at $45k.

Go and thanks.

The best economic sense is to not spend upwards of $45K on a car you're driving an average of 20 miles a day.

I drove BMW 3-series for 10 years and then went to Audi. The quattro AWD was pretty amazing in the rain. Car did have more repair issues than BMW though and the handling wasn't as tight. But if you really care about AWD, can't recommend Audi enough.

I'm not saying that I had to spend the $45k, just that I would go that high if the car was worth it. Besides the bmw, we have a 2005 nissan quest so as you see, we keep our cars for quite a long time.

Does it need to be full-sized?

The new Audi A3 is a compact 4Dr and is pretty slick. We were going to buy one, but my wife was turned off by the dashboard and interior styling (which is a bit spartan and feels a little Corolla-ish for an Audi). But it drives great, is attractive and the Quattro AWD system is awesome. We ended up getting an A5 instead. It is sportier looking and has a more luxurious interior, but the A3 smokes it in 0-60 time by almost two seconds.

2012 AWD Ford Fusion owner here. Can not say enough good things about mine and I hear the newer ones are great also.

 You won't spend more than 14K on a truck but you will spend 45K on a car?
If I get the truck, I give up the bmw and I get a truck with 60k miles for $14k and I still have to buy a new car. For $45k, or hopefully less, I get to keep the bmw and get a relatively new car. I was hoping at the beginning of this journey that my bmw would offset most of the truck. Foolish of me to think.

Buy a 4 dr truck and you have your "car" and your 4wd. Most trucks anymore will get high teens for fuel mileage.

You can buy a truck and car, both relatively new if not one of them brand new, with everything you need, for less than 45k

Yeah, this.

Then again I just let my wife talk me into letting us buy a 29k honda odyssey, so maybe I am not the best person to be giving car buying advice.

God I am still sick over that purchase, and probably will be for a very long time

Scrap the truck, trade-in ordeal. I need a 3rd car and I want it to be an AWD sedan. And I don't have to spend $45k, just that if someone says the $45k car is 2x the car of the $30k car, I'm not against it. We will have this car for a long time (unless someone crashes it, and with a 20yr and 16yr old, this is a possibility).

I'm kind of surprised you can get one for that price. When we bought the Quest in 2004, Odyssey's were in that price range.

Love our Audi A6. Best car I've ever owned. Thing is just glued to the ground.

Honorable mention for AWD would be a Subaru. They're tough as nails.

I'm leaning Audi. Why A6 over A4 say?
We have an '09 A6 and have put over 100K miles on it. Far better than the BMW and MBZ we had. Fast, great interior, great brakes, and great handling. The A6 has a much roomier and nicer interior than the A4.

This and the 3.0 in the A6 destroys the 2.0 in the A4.

Gotcha, thanks fellas. I love the styling on both models too.

I have a 2001 A6 avant quattro and a 2000 Outback. Both bought used, both excellent cars. Outback is way cheaper to maintain & repair & has a higher resale value than the Audi.

I had a 2001 Outback I bought new, put 200K miles on it & got rid of when I blew out my shoulder & couldn't shift for a while.

(eta model years of the cars... no clue what the new ones are like)

Get the Outback and save the rest for retirement or college if you have kid(s).

Outback has better seats than less expensive Subarus.

Rent a truck when you need one.

My 2015 AWD Fusion Titanium was awesome. 2.0L EcoBoost, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system - the car drove itself. It is the exact opposite of my Mustang.

Just bought an Outback and while it's not sporty or particularly fun to drive, it's the perfect family car. Spacious, low maintenance costs, comfortable, holds its value extremely well.

I love my 3 series AWD, but with the extended warranty about to expire I don't want to be on the hook for expensive repairs. Leaning strongly right now toward a Genesis AWD sedan to replace it.

Got the LX, east expensive style. No bells and whistles (which I prefer cause I dont care for leather or the other useless electronics the others have). 29 grand out the door. It's really nice but ugh

Look into the Infinit Q50. We compared it with an E Class, the new C Class, Lex ES350, & BMW 5 series.

The Q50 offers great lease deals if you want to go that route. Great technology, lots of power, nice ride, and handles great in rain or snow. Great bang for the buck, I love it.

That's what I had. The Audi A6 3.0 with the supercharger. If you like going from 40 to 80 real fast, that'll do it.
