Redskins cut Devin Thomas (1 Viewer)

Best thing for him. He can't run a route? Like Randy Moss runs good routes. The skins have no WR threat, yet couldn't put him in and draw coverage deep to open up the offense. He will make Rat Face look more stupid then he already does. I love it.

Honestly, if he can't make it with the WR-starved Redskins, will he latch on anywhere? I'm guessing he's done.
No way he's done. He's 23 years old and the only job the Skins gave him an opportunity to do this year he has done quite well. He is 5th in the NFL in kick return avg for guys with over 10 returns. He also likey saved a possession, and a win, by throwing a great block when Byron Westbrook muffed a return. As a Skins fan, I strongly disagree with this decision and feel that Thomas did not get a fair opportunity this year. Not only will he get picked up, I doubt he clears waivers.
I think it is pretty clear at this point: Thomas does not look good in practice. His rookie season, he was out of shape (by his own admission) and could not get on the field. And when he did, he was running end arounds, not catching the ball. His 2nd year, he started as the 4th receiver, rarely seeing the field and finally got some significant playing time at the very end of the season. In his 3rd year and 2nd coaching staff, he could not get a single offensive snap. The coaches must be seeing something that makes them uncomfortable putting him on the field.
It's not clear at all to me. Just because he didnt have success his first 2 years in the league doesn't mean he never will. And this year, I don't think he got an opportunity.Sometimes WRs take time to develop. Guys like Miles Austin, Roddy White, Sidney Rice or going farther back with guys like Jimmy Smith and the Redskins own WR coach Keenan McCardell.Devin Thomas is 23 years old. He still has time to develop. And I still think a lot of the stuff above is BS. I went to have a dozen practices during training camp. Thomas looked as good or better than any WR not named Santana Moss at the ones I attended.

Yes, great comparison. Devin Thomas to Randy Moss, one of the greatest receivers of all time. I see nothing wrong about this statement. Brilliant!

As a high 2nd rd pick, I doubt any team wants Thomas at that pay scale. They'll wait to sign him as a FA at a reduced cost.

This is like when you are on a date with a really hot chick who is really really really dumb. I mean painfully stupid. But she's real hot and has huge cans. So you take her out to dinner and right about the time apps and drinks comes she mentions she's saving herself for marriage and whips out a bible to pray before eating.

The skins are essentially just slipping out the bathroom window on this one.
 :lmao:

Thomas was to make $420,000 this year. League minimum is $325,000. When you factor what the Skins have already paid him a team would save less than $60,000 by waiting. Pennies for a NFL franchise. But hey, given the economic climate and pending labor impasse, you may be right.

ETA- Actually, scratch the above. I think the $325,000 is the minimum for rookies. Thomas may be making the min for a 3rd year player. Either way, a team doesn't save much, if anything by waiting to sign him.

And the larger point is that he is far from done. He will soon get another chance to play in the NFL.

Thomas got some PT late last year, and hwen he got the ball, he did well with his chances. I think all good coaches have an ego, and shanny is no different

With clayton taking a knee injury today, ID LOVE to see the Rams take a flier on him. Thomas has talent.

He may be immature, but he will get another shot...hopefully its a wake up call

Devin Thomas Released due to Approach --

Sun Oct 10, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com

CBS Sports reports the Washington Redskins released WR Devin Thomas on Saturday because of his approach. "He's got the talent, he sure does, but he's going to have to commit to being a pro," HC Mike Shanahan said. "I talked to Devin many times and told him what he needed to do to be a pro player."

He has a brain the size of a peanut.

@Adam_Schefter WR Devin Thomas claimed by the Panthers on waivers
Now that is no surprise. Horrible evaluators of talent (Carolina), grab a heap of #### off the scrap pile. OC Davidson, no doubt, was in on this pickup. They will find out that this bum is equal to the David Carr pickup. A waste of space.

I'm glad most of you have this guy on ignore. He should not be listened to.............. Thomas if he matures ( only 23) certainly still has time to show his talent. Carolina won't be a tough starting line up to crack. Problem is they have sucky QB play.

The only other team to put in a ww request was the Colts.I'd say they know a little bit about talent. Not saying Devin will work out, but he's worth a shot.

Work ethic issues IIRC.
I know Devins HS coach..said he was one of the most talented but most unmotivated athlete he has ever seen, had to go to a JC before MSU and just never knew how to get it together.
I'm hoping his time on the pine in washington woke him up. I believe he wants to show he can play in the league. Shanny's treatment of him just may end up being the best thing that happened to him.

Saw on a Panthers message board that Thomas looked good in practice and stayed after and caught balls from the jugs machine by himself. Maybe he is committed to showing Shanny he was wrong. That would be nice.

I wouldn't rule that out. The problem is that as I understand it, attitude and even work ethic weren't so much the problem as intelligence and knowledge of the playbook. As the old saying goes, "You can't fix stupid." Still, I didn't like that they let him go in favor of keeping the likes of Roydell Williams and Joey Galloway, and Thomas' talent as a KR, but perhaps there was more going on than I knew.
