Redskins release Hightower (1 Viewer)

Redskins backfield getting clearer.
it is? explian...
3 instead of 4 seems clearer. In one (short roster so no goofy comments) league I am light at RB, Helu and Morris are available and I am thinking about grabbing Helu now. Not sure about Morris, but I don't have enough slots to grab him as well without dropping someone I might really want to keep. I like hearing this news. I just wish I had one more slot as the starting RB for Washington/Shanny will be valuable, especially for those of us who drafted WR/TE/QB early.

I was joking b/c it's Shannahan.

No worries, to me it became a lot clearer to a point where I may not avoid it anymore in this one league even where I already had Royster as a flier. With 4 and limited roster spots, there could be a lot more folks like me where choosing 2 of 3 is a lot different from choosing 2 of 4. May not seem like a lot, but I have 14 roster spots with 9 starters, so having 3 of 5 backups be Redskin RBs is near impossible, but 2 of 5 is all of a sudden workable because that 1 extra slot can be the K/D/backup QB to use for a week.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Redskins and Dolphins are working on a trade that will send wide receiver Anthony Armstrong to Miami and running back Steve Slaton to Washington D.C. More Shanahanigans!

Shanahan likes to surprise people.
It would be nice if he surprised the fan base with more than 5 wins this year. Alas. The Hightower move does surprises me. I know that Alfred Morris, Royster, and Helu are three good young talents, but Hightower was known for his great pass blocking, a skill you would think they would want with a rookie QB and a shaky offensive line. From a fantasy perspective, my instinct is actually to grab Alfred Morris. He did not play against the Bucs in that last preseason game, so at this point I say it's a virtual lock that he starts game one at NO...

OK, he's just f-ing with us now...

Would Slaton have any value in Washington?
From a fantasy perspective, no. They really like their young talent in Morris, Helu and Royster so I don't see Slaton comming in after preseason is already done and becoming entrenched as a starter or anything. He may get in as third down back or something but that's gonna be hit or miss...But, you never know with skeletor...

I completely disagree with that. Royster and Helu weren't able to play in week 3 pre-season, so it made sense that they played in week 4. Not saying I have any clue who is starting, but if Helu and Royster played week 3, it would say more. Plus, since they played on Wednesday, there was a week and a half before their game with the Saints, so Helu and Royster won't be tired. With the oddball pre-season schedule (don't recall so many Wednesday games and games for 4 straight days before), we saw New England play no starters in week 3 because they had a Monday game week 2 and a Friday game week 3, so I don't think we can say anything about a virtual lock to start.

LOL! Indeed! In the truest Shanny fashion. this was great, even for him. "Hey Junior, check this out! Let's cut A RB. Now, hear me out. We CUT a guy and then...wait for it...we leak it out that we are trying to trade for another RB about an hour later!"Genius.Just enough time to give us time on the boards to say its clearer and then...WHAM!

From just last night:

WAS - RB Tim Hightower likely starter, if healthy

Source: ESPN.com - Dan Graziano

The Washington Redskins like RB Tim Hightower (knee) as their starting running back if he is healthy; however, Hightower is not fully healthy at the moment, leaving the team's backfield situation up in the air.

Clear picture? Shanahan? I think not!

Report: Redskins working on trade for Slaton

The Redskins are working on a trade that would send WR Anthony Armstrong to the Dolphins for RB Steve Slaton.

Talks are "ongoing." There are plenty of connections here as Slaton played for current Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan in Houston and Armstrong spent 2008 on the Dolphins' practice squad. Slaton is currently fourth on the running back depth chart in Miami and hasn't earned significant playing time since 2009, but would at least threaten for a role in Washington. The Shanahans aren't afraid to give anyone carries and Slaton fits best in the zone-blocking scheme.

:lmao:

The Slaton thing is a little confusing since Helu is basically a bigger, faster, younger version. But generally speaking it's worth paying attention when someone is traded for instead of released and claimed.

makes a lot of sense to me. I think Shanny sees Clinton Portis in Steve Slaton.Similar size, similar attributes, both were catchers out of the backfield and Slaton has been productive in the Shanny running system in Houston.

Why would the Lions want this guy, they already have injury prone running backs on the team, why add another. We also need to remember that while you can play on an ACL the year after you injure it, but it usually takes 2 years before you are back to normal.(Remember Brady wasn't really Brady in 2009 after his ACL, Welker has caught 100 passes every year with the Patriots except for the year after his ACL, Javon Walker was never the same after, and the list goes on and on. Hightower was an average NFL back when full healthy I can only image how bad he would be this year on a repaired ACL.

'skins just waived Armstrong, so Slaton may be staying put.
