I'm sure that in a forum like this, this has been discussed somewhere but I am trying to get a consensus. It is in regards to setting the thermostat in my home during the summer months.
Most homes in this part of the country use a swamp (evaporative) cooler however, I have refrigerated AC. It is a system that I've never seen before called an "Aqua Therm". It basically uses water from the water heater to heat the house but the AC is pretty much like any other refrigerated system. Since it is this type of system, there is no programmable thermostat available. You set it to the desired temperature and then either HEAT or AC ...ON or OFF.
My question is this: Is it better (cheaper/more efficient) to leave the system OFF during the day when everyone is at work and turn it on (72) when someone gets home...OR...is it better to leave the AC on all day at a lower temperature? The house was built in 2005 and is very well insulated. Inside temps rarely go above 80.
I live in the SW where, during the summer, the temperature ranges from the 80s, into the 90s and a few days a year, it may venture into the 100s.
Just looking for opinions or undeniable facts. Whatever comes up.
