Reggie Bush .... playoff savior? (1 Viewer)

I acquired Reggie Bush as a throwin in a trade on Thanksgiving Day. I have not used him yet but my thoughts were that he has some serious potential to move to a new team next season where his skills as a pass catcher and rusher could be better utilized. If here were to sign in Green Bay or Indianapolis for instance, he could have a Darren Sproles type of resurgence.

I haven't really given him much thought but as I am setting my lineups this week I noticed that he faces the lowly Jaguars this weekend at home. I noticed that he had 100 total yards and a touchdown last season when he travelled west to play the 49ers who have about a trillion times better defense than the Jags.

The other thing I noticed was that he had his best receiving outing of the year with 5 for 38. His per carry average against the vaunted 49ers was an admirable 4.6.

I know he's been inconsistent but this was his best outing since his Week 2 demolition of the 29th ranked Raiders rush defense. And Jacksonville ranks 30th right now, followed by Buffalo who ranks 27th.

Jacksonville allowed both Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell both over 70 yards and a touchdown last weekend. The week before Spiller and Fred Jackson combined for over 180 and a touch. The week before that it was Chris Johnson going over 100 combined on them.

Buffalo has been all over the map on their ability to stop rushers. Sjax went for 13.3, Ridley went 22 for 98, Foster 24 for 111, CJ2k went for 195. But they held Bush himself in check to the tune of 20 yards only a month ago.

Is it possible that Bush owners (the ones still alive in their respective playoffs anyway) find themselves with a perfect storm of opportunity and inferior opponents?

Joe Philbin stated this week that he will not put Lamar Miller onto the field until he earns it, which apparently he has not. Reggie has stated that he hopes to return to Miami and would presumably by playing his absolute hardest to ensure that they consider him. And let's face it, as a 27 year old back, this is his last chance at a handsome payday.

You've got talent, opportunity, inferior opposition, and motivation all evident here. I think he could has a really decent chance at finishing among the Top 10 backs the next two weeks (money time). Am I missing something here?

He certainly has juicy match-ups, but the playcalling has been holding him back. He gets pulled near the goal line, and for a long time (up until last week), on 3rd downs as well- that part is especially baffling. Hopefully last week was a sign that he's going to be more involved in the passing game (he had nearly as many receptions and receiving yards last week as he had in the previous 6 games combined), which would at least give him a nice floor.

I am starting him and have started him all year outside of a couple games just do to lack of alternatives in a deep-ish league. It's been a really frustrating year and their usage of him is pretty baffling. In the middle of the year it got to the point where Thomas was on the field close to 70% of the snaps while Bush would get like 12 touches on 15-20 total snaps. I thought he was hurt but then he would have a couple sick runs so it never made any sense.

This past week against SF the announcers were saying during the week the coaches/Bush said they were making a concerted effort to throw him the ball more often in this game and going forward and that was before he ended up with 5 catches so hopefully that ends up carrying forward. In PPR I really thought he was going to be sneaky good this year but they just completely went away from that all year long.

I'm really considering him over CJ2k right now. I have a feeling he's in for a huge week against the Jags. Something along the lines of his Raiders performance.

Debating him over Bell and Leshoure. I just have visions of the aforementioned headscratching usage by this coaching staff and would hate to watch him play like 10 snaps. Tough call.

Right now I am debating him over CJ2k, David Wilson, and Bilal Powell. I still leaning CJ2k for the moment but it's close. He isn't exactly money in the bank either but at least there is no competition for carries. Reading that they were going to make a concerted effort to get him the ball in the passing game and hearing that he lined up outside are both encouraging in PPR formats. So is the 5 catches coming on the heels of that statement. So it would appear that him going back to 10 carries and 1 catch are unlikely but we all know there is a lot of fogginess when reading the tea leaves. You'd think they'd want to give him a shot to do something special or not though with his impending free agency. He's apparently still above Daniel Thomas on the depth chart and the coach stated last week that Miller isn't really earning touches. Bush has got way more talent than Shonn Greene who just had a respectable outing while splitting carries vs. the Jags last week.On the flipside, Reggie went 10 carries for 20 yards last time they played the Jags. Not sure if the Jags personel has changed at all since then as far as injuries and what not.

Agnonizing over Reggie and Bryce Brown. Having a hard time trusting either to be honest. Seems to me that Bush tends to disappoint when the matchup appears good. Witness the dreadful output in games against Tenn and Buffalo. Then he has decent games against Seattle and San Fran

I know. He's risky to be sure but I think he's going to really go off this week. Not sure why, call it gut.

Gonna have to decide quickly, wish Philly's game wasn't tonight. I hate to miss a "bounce back" performance from Brown but not really sure it's very likely. I think I prefer Reggie's floor output of 5-10 pts with the possibility of a big game.

Gut, and the fact that the coaching staff said they were going to get him the ball more then did it last week. :)Expecting good things from him too, and happy to be starting him in four games this week.

Currently starting Brown over Bush in my PPR league, but I hate the fact Brown has to play tonight. I would probably start Bush if I could trust the coaching staff. Bush has been an enigma all season long and should have been more involved in the passing game. This decision can make or break my playoff game. The only reason I'm going with Brown right now is because of his higher upside.

At least he got the carries, but I still can't figure out what they're doing in the passing game. Zero receptions for this guy just doesn't make any sense.

I assume they're going to work in Lamar Miller more to see what they have in him. Miller is the goal-line back, right?
Up until the injury, Thomas was the goal-line back. Miller only has 36 carries on the year (6 this week). I doubt they use him there, although they could use the FB Lane if it's really short yardage. Bush got several carries inside the 10 last week after Thomas left at least.

Logic suggests that Miller wil get a fair run at things next 2 weeks.

However, logic doesnt always win championships.

Think I am, reluctantly, going to pass.

I'm less concerned about the goal line work than about the inconsistency in getting him involved in the passing game. I just don't see myself trusting his usage in a week 16 game.

It's certainly strange, but it's not like it's going to get worse now that Thomas is out. I'm not expecting a huge game, but his ceiling is certainly higher without Thomas IMO.

Reggie has a big fat future paycheck on his mind. The Dolphins will give him the carries. You can bet he will make the most of each one. Maybe even a few catches here and there.

I'm starting him over Sproles this week. PPR

remember last year's game this time of year? just sayin....

Sun Dec 18, 2011

Reggie Bush RB

25 Rush, 203 yds, 1 TD

C.J. Spiller RB

12 Rush, 91 yds, 1 TD

9 Rec, 76 yds, 1 TD

He is my fourth rb in a 12 team PPR dynasty league. Started Foster, Charles and Morris and got almost nothing from Foster. Could still win my championship but would have loved those points from Bush.....
