Reggie: I'll be back sooner than expected

WWL.com Reporting

Saints running back Reggie Bush says he will be back "sooner than people think."

Bush broke his leg in Monday night's win over the 49ers.

Saints Coach Sean Payton said the team medical staff estimates Bush will be out four to six weeks.

Bush told WWL's Kristian Garic that it is a "small crack" in his lower leg, he doesn't even need to wear a cast.

When asked just how soon he thought he would be back, Bush didn't say specifically.

In other news from Saints headquarters... #64 is reporting eligible.

Offensive tackle Zach Strief is listed as "probable" on the final pregame injury report for Sunday's battle with the Falcons in the Superdome. Strief has not played yet this season due to a knee injury he suffered in preseason action.

Also listed as probable is runningback Chris Ivory. He could see his first action of the season after a knee injury he also suffered in the preseason.

For first time this season tight end Jeremy Shockey showed up on the injury report. Payton listed him as probable with a bruised quadriceps he sustained during practice Thursday. Shockey did not practice Friday.

So the real question that remains is is Ivory worth a FA add before he tocuhes the ball in a real game? Looks like NO could be in for a 3 way split at RB once Bush is healthy based on Ivory's preseason performance. A couple weeks from now MIGHT be sell high time for Thomas

My gut says he doesn't come back until week 11 after the bye.

Players always talk their injuries up.

I am considering dropping Spiller for him by some freak chance the dude goes all Michael Vick up and down the field. Who really expected they were grabbing Vick for more than a one week replacement. Ivory has combination freakish skill and power. If he goes off I want him on my team before the talking fantasy Gurus start hyping him.

I broke the same bone Bush did just last year. I know NFL players have better doctors and rehab opportunities, but there isn't a chance he comes back before 4 weeks. I didn't have to wear a cast either. Was in a walking boot for 4 weeks. It took me several weeks to get all the flexibility back in my ankle. I think he misses at least 5 weeks, maybe 6. He could comeback before the bye week though.

Reggie Bush (broken fibula) has ditched his crutches and is walking without pain.

Bush predicts that he will return closer to four weeks rather than the original timetable of six weeks. The four-week timetable would put his return at mid-October.

Reggie can say whatever he wants. He ain't coming back any time soon and you guys who like Ivory should grab him. I need to see more than I saw from Ivory last week myself, but the fact is he is on the upside health-wise, and it's a miracle Pierre is not out for considerable time if not the season after last week's injury.I don't own PT in any league (do own Brees, so vested interest) but do like him and was pretty sure at first glimpse he was done for the year on that injury. I think it will be miraculous if he plays at a high level this weekend. NOTE: I am not saying I do not think PT is out this weekend. I said, "at a high level".

Ivory's 7 for 13 and 1 fumble doesn't instill a lot of confidence does it.

NOPE. Hence my very clear statement about "You guys who like Ivory"...note I distanced myself from that crowd FOR NOW.FWIW PT did not practice again today - per the PT thread. Betts is still a factor to be considered and don't look past the fact Brees likes Betts and was not thrilled Betts was cut.

Bush walking without cast or crutches

Only 10 days removed from suffering a broken leg against the 49ers on Monday Night Football, Saints running back Reggie Bush is walking without crutches, and he has no cast on his leg.

Per a league source, Bush is walking with a "slight limp." We're told that he currently is ahead of his initial four-to-six-week estimated absence.

And that's important for the Saints, given that in 31 days they'll face the Steelers in a Halloween showdown on Sunday Night Football on NBC.

Take that, World Series.

Ivory looked pretty good when given a chance. His stats don't look great because he was put into some very predictable situations on 3rd and short and the Saints o-line has sucked this year. He was stopped for negative yardage at least three times, one of them was for -4 if I'm not mistaken. Not saying Ivory is a must-grab but I could see him putting up some Mike Bell-type numbers if he gets enough playing time.

Anymore Bush updates?

Original injury was Sept. 19th I think, so with a 6 week break, he should be back in a little over 3 weeks.

If he was dropped when he got injured, how soon should he be rostered again?

The Saints will need PT and Bush for the Steelers game. That is right about the time frame Bush is talking about here. Steelers defense is not a great FF defense for a RB to go against however. Bush is a hybrid back so he would be a better start than many due to his skill set.
