Reid says Romney may not have paid taxes for ten years (1 Viewer)

Even in Washington Reid went pretty hardcore here. Contrary to popular opinion the dude is not dumb, he made a very calculated statement here. Given Romney's non-denial denial this weekend you have to wonder. He went Clintonian with the "so far as I can recall". All I'm saying if is Reid's statement is true its a disqualifier for the Presidency whether it was legal or not.

"Over the weekend, Romney said that 'so far as [he] can recall,' he has paid "a very substantial amount" of taxes every year, but he's offered no proof of that."

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has what he says is an informed explanation for why Mitt Romney refuses to release additional tax returns. According a Bain investor, Reid charged, Romney didn't pay any taxes for 10 years.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Huffington Post from his office on Capitol Hill, Reid saved some of his toughest words for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Romney couldn't make it through a Senate confirmation process as a mere Cabinet nominee, the majority leader insisted, owing to the opaqueness of his personal finances.

"His poor father must be so embarrassed about his son," Reid said, in reference to George Romney's standard-setting decision to turn over 12 years of tax returns when he ran for president in the late 1960s.

Saying he had "no problem with somebody being really, really wealthy," Reid sat up in his chair a bit before stirring the pot further. A month or so ago, he said, a person who had invested with Bain Capital called his office.

"Harry, he didn't pay any taxes for 10 years," Reid recounted the person as saying.

"He didn't pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain," said Reid. "But obviously he can't release those tax returns. How would it look?

"You guys have said his wealth is $250 million," Reid went on. "Not a chance in the world. It's a lot more than that. I mean, you do pretty well if you don't pay taxes for 10 years when you're making millions and millions of dollars."

That "poor father" statement was definately designed to piss Romney off. Get him out of his comfort zone and shame him.

Definately ugly politics. Definately an unsourced accusation but Romney better get used to it.

The crazy thing to me is it's all avoidable but Romney appears content to sit there and get punched in the gut. It's not logical.

So Romney has to call his bluff now right? Romney just cannot leave that hanging out there can he?
He is going to try ignore it. Huge mistake. All of this little stuff like the taxes and gaffes at home and abroad may seem like tiny abrasions to the Rmoney team now, but they will add up to an undeniable feeling in the gut of the American people that he cant be President. It is tough to convince people you arent a joke after you have become the punchline.

Exactly. Which just makes me think more and more that there is something really bad in his previous tax returns. Because it will get worse. A lot worse until he releases his returns

Personally it doesn't matter what side of the fence you are on. An issue like this speaks very much about the character of an individual running for president. He should release them just to clear the air on everything.

Like Obama's birth certificate?
Have we seen Gary Johnson's birth certificate?
Why would it matter?
Exactly!
 Is there any dispute as to whether Gary Johnson's parents were qualified citizens at the time of his birth? If not, he could have been born in China and still be a natural born citizen.

Didn't he mismanage some money or something? Solyndra or some such?
Who?Are you stating it was embezzled?
Yeah, I really have no idea. I don't even know who Reid is, though I suspect he's the democrat from nevada who mismanaged a lot of money. What do I know?
Ok, so this line of thought is a dead-end. I thought you had something with meat on it.

How so?
It should be obvious but if someone is using illegal or even unethical means to subvert the tax system in this country I think it very much speaks to his character and will very much influence my vote and a lot of other votes. What happened to having a president that has high ethical values.

Not sure what you mean by "unethical" but the IRS has copies of his tax returns so if he's broken any laws I'm sure they'll get him. As if you'd ever vote for him anyways so your suggestion that this will influence your vote is laughable.

I heard Harry Reid likes gay sex. Just throwing it out there of course. It's obviously true because I can't disprove it.

The above is an example of what passes as proof for liberals nowadays.

If Romneys returns are clean and he slow plays this, he could get a lot of ridiculous sound bites from the left.

If they are embarrassing he may as well let them attack. Maybe they turn into crazy returners and get dismissed because it looks like they are focusing on a peripheral issue.

I thought that was the story about Obama and his gay lover.
