As best I understand the process (and it's not very well) RelayRides:Hertz :: Uber:Taxi -- it's a network of private cars that can be booked and rented.

Anything I should or shouldn't be doing if I decide to use this?

 WHATCHA GOT?

I used relay rides for a 5 day trip in the Los Angeles area. Rented a 2006 BMW 3 series for about $35/day.

Carefully read the ad about conditions for pick up/drop off. This particular guy picks you up at the airport, then you drop him off at his house. That can be a lot of time/driving if it's not the right direction.

Inspect the car carefully. Take photos of any dings, mileage and gas (the guy renting to me told me to do all of this).

Overall great experience, cheaper prices and a good car over a holiday weekend.

Anybody else tried Turo? Renting a couple times this summer for weekend getaways from the city.. The rates are reasonable.

I'm using it mainly so I can pick the exact model I am thinking about buying later this year.

What's the insurance costs?  I just got the app, looking at different options.

We have an auto policy through my company that covers me on rentals, so I was able to decline. I confirmed with my insurance company before I booked.

So far the guy I am working with is fantastic. Everything by text, responded right after I booked. Once with instructions, a second time with a document on DropBox.

I pick the car up from his attended garage, they take pictures and send to him when I pick up. I'll also take pictures when I get the car and return it. Leave the keys with the garage.

He sent me an 18 page guide to the car.  :lmao:

I'm also renting from someone with 45 positive reviews and an average response time of under an hour. He's been doing this a few years and seems to be super attentive.

I think the mileage limitation and overages are another important consideration.

I'm getting 300 miles per day so that should work out fine, but I noticed it can be $0.75 - $1.29 per mile if you exceed your allowance on most cars.

I declined the coverage, but on a $125K Tesla the basic coverage with $3K deductible was $37. If you're not covered by your credit card or an existing policy, seems reasonable - I am presuming it's much cheaper on normal priced cars. I didn't bother looking at the $1M liability with low deductible.
