Report: Dodgers offer Hoffman one-year deal (1 Viewer)

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers have offered Trevor Hoffman a one-year contract.

The offer "exceeds $4 million," according to the report. You can be sure the Brewers will attempt to beat or match the deal, but some in the baseball industry believe Hoffman would prefer to remain on the West Coast. The Southern California native has a wife and three young children. Jan. 7 - 8:23 am et

Broxton owners =

Riske, Stetter, McClung, Villanueva, Coffey, Julio, DiFelice, etc crap, etc crap...

At this point, I'll take a washed up Hoffman. Christ we gave Gagne $10MM last year, why not Hoffman? He may not be what he was, but he's better than any of our other options. They're also looking at Chad Cordero who would bring even more question marks.

I personally hope he goes to the brewers hoffman is washed up
I'd much rather have Beimel back than Hoffman.
:lmao: While I don't know if Broxton is mentally ready to close, I believe that Beimel>>>>Hoffman at this point in time.
beimel isnt a closer, he's a situational left hander and an overrated one at that. If anything Wade should close. Dodgers have alot of needs at starting pitching, second base and a power bat before a closer.

How long did he have the job at the end of 2008? He was strong IIRC.14 for 17 after the ASB. 0.79 ERA in September after a rough August.
Guy blew so many saves, he doesnt have the mental makeup to close, good setup man maybe, I get nervous every time he comes in.

he blew 3 saves after the ASB. hardly 'blew so many saves.'

I share the doubts about Broxton closing. He's got all the "stuff" you'd ever want and could be another Gagne (the roided up version), but he looks like his personality extends to the pitching mound and he doesn't like the spotlight. Maybe he's young and will outgrow that and mature into the role, but it does have me bothered. His stats may not indicate the problem but that uncertainty practically drips off of him when he's on the mound in crunch time.

Hoffman isn't a closer either at this stage of his career. As such, I'd rather have Beimel, and if the team was encountering a close situation with two or three lefties up to bat in the 9th inning, I'd still take Beimel over Hoffman now.

He blew 8 out of 24 saves. Thats alot I think.

The five saves Broxton "blew" early in the year while he was setup man are a little deceiving. He was entering the game in the 7th and 8th innings with a lead. True, he relinquished the lead but it's not like he was ever really in any position to get the save. He did manage to pile up 13 holds by the time Saito got hurt. Projected over the rest of the season, that would have placed him among the NL leaders.

 That's why I've never liked the blown save. Very deceptive stat.

I'd feel pretty good about Broxton closing.
