report: Lions Offer Tulloch (1 Viewer)

I had Levy in the 90 solo range at MLB. With Levy at WLB with Tulloch at MLB, what are expectations- 80 solo range?

Levy would move to the outside... but still be a 3down LB with Tulloch.http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2011/07/if_detroit_signs_stephen_tullo.html

Adam Caplan is reporting that the Eagles and Lions are in pursuit of Titans ' free agent LB Stephen Tulloch . The middle linebacker has ties to both teams with former Titans assistants Jim Schwartz and Jim Washburn.

Detroit Signed Justin Durant and I see him being there WLB, this leads me to think they will pass on Tulloch and keep Levy in the Middle!! they need to spend money on a damn SS like Laundry from Balt!!!

The Lions are highly unlikely to sign a safety. They don't have a lot of cap room and they still have to address cornerback. I think they are content to start Erik Coleman or Amari Spievey, likely Coleman.

So how likely with the signing of Durant will they be more likely to keep Levy in the Middle and go for a CB like Joesph? No way they get a quality CB if they dump all that money on Tulloch!!

Strictly guessing, but I think corners like Joseph are going to be badly overpaid. I think he is a solid corner, but he will command money that elite corners get and I don't think they will pay his price. I think they may go after lower tier corners if they sign Tulloch. Regardless, they can't address all of their problems in just this offseason.

I just heard on local radio that the Lions are out of the Tulloch derby. If true, I have to assume they are going to make a move to sign a top CB like Joseph. Also, it pretty much means Levy stays in the middle, with Durant at WLB and who knows (Carpenter, Palmer, someone else) at SLB.

Wow, Tulloch looks like an idiot now

Instead of taking Lions first offer he waited and now......I wonder how much can he get from the Eagles

Expanding on @skjensen report, Lions sign former Titans LB Stephen Tulloch to one-year, $3,250,000 deal, including $1.8 million gtd.

This signing really isn't as clean as I first assumed/expected.

The Lions prioritized Durant over Tulloch (in dollars, length of contract, when signed). Schwartz has history of pulling run-stuffing MLB from the nickel packages when able -- including Tulloch at times in Tennessee.

Very possible that Levy/Durant get first crack at playing in the nickel.

Have you seen terms of the deal Durant signed (in terms of money)?

Thought it was five years for decent money, but looks like two years. Might be getting scatter-brained. Makes me feel a little better about Tulloch, but still think there's reason for concern.Thoughts? Am I reading too much into this?

I know Durant got 2 years; I have no idea how much money. I have not seen terms addressed anywhere. Prior to free agency, there were thoughts from the locals that Durant might be a target, but my guess is he got a reasonable contract in terms of dollars and maybe incentives to protect the Lions because of his injury history. The Lions have been pretty smart with the contracts they have signed, so my guess is they did not overpay Durant and like Wright, he came here knowing he would have the best chance to start. I don't think you are reading too much into this. It is certainly something that people should be aware of. If I recall correctly, Tulloch was not always a 3-down LB when Schwartz was in Tennessee, at least when Thornton was healthy and playing. It's possible he could sit on 3rd downs. Also, Durant sat a lot on 3rd downs too. I will not be shocked if Tulloch played 2 downs. I think the main reason the Lions signed him is their run defense gave up an average of 4.5 ypc. The one thing I would believe is that Levy plays 3 downs. Other than that, it seems pretty wide open.
