Didn't see the game what was up with him?? Was not expecting such crap numbers from him at home against NO! Thanks Reub I would of rather took my chances with PORTIS! :wall: :wall: :wall:

Apparently it was the play alling. Droughns only touched the ball 11 times. Frye criticized the play calling after the game because the abandoned the run in the second half. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes...

More concerning was Vickers getting goal line carries. Any homers with info regarding this? Hope they don't pull Reuben at the goal line.

Browns | Frye not sure why team abandoned run Week 1Sun, 10 Sep 2006 19:57:33 -0700Patrick McManamon, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns QB Charlie Frye is not sure why the team abandoned their running game early Week 1. RB Reuben Droughns only carried the ball 11 times for 27 yards and Frye led the team in rushing with six scrambles for 44 yards. Frye said, "I don't know what stopped us from running the ball, but being down 9-0, that isn't very much. We still should be able to run the ball."

Prolly not good for the QB to be publicly calling out the playcalling in week 1.

:goodposting: Just thinking the same thing. Not that it matters, but Frye's right.

He had a couple of decent runs called back, think one was for close to 15 yards. The Saints defense looked fast yesterday. And they were hitting hard. I'd love to see them playing an NFL team :football: .

so they pulled rueben at the goalline too yesterday?Last time I ever try and play matchups week one. :wall:

Vickers did indeed get the goalline carry. I don't know what kind of gameplan the Browns were working off of yesterday, but apparently it involved keeping their best running back off the field as much as possible.

Yes Vickers looks like the short yardage back (was in preseason too). The play calling was just brutal, for example, 3rd and 1, jumbo package, sweep right for 0 yards. Well since it worked so well the first time how about we try that again. Oh same result. What a joke. Carthon needs to be fired. Sweeps only work in the NFL if you use a super fast back and even then, not so much.If I have to watch this crap all year my head may explode.

And then when they had a first-and-goal at the 1 Frye scored. It was a pretty brutal day for Droughns owners.

:goodposting: End of last year the a number of Browns players were openly complaining about the offensive play calling. Carthon has got to go! :hot:

Maybe the Saints D had to get fast to catch Reggie Bush in practice?

I don't know if they are faster than previous years, but they definitely seemed to be much more disciplined and tackling better.

Vickers did not look too good in that role. As a Droughns owner I'd hope that they'd give him a few chances to see if he fares any better than the rookie and if he does, then maybe he can claim those carries for the rest of the year. But as of week 1, it looks like we have a vulture.

Bad playcalling or not, Droughnes will have some horrid weeks to go along with his good one's. Look at his erratic stats from last year and be ready for it.

Everyone in Cleveland is calling out the playcalling. Was un####ing believable atrocious.

Hello pot, this kettle calling... are you black? Funny thing is that Carthon is probably wishing he had gotten better play from his QB. Frye should worry about his own play before pointing the finger. If he starts performing at the level of Dan Marino, Peyton Manning, John Elway, Joe Montana then he can complain about others. But right now... he has enough problems just with himself.

Not to mention, since it worked well the first 2 times accumulating 0 yards on 3rd and 1, they did it a third time. They somehow snuck through and got it the third time, but the play calling was garbage, and I was shocked how Droughns was pulled in short-yardage situations.

KC's OLine > Cleveland's OLine

Bengals shredded KCs OLine this week.

Bengals will shred Cleveland's OLine next week.

I'd bench Droughns next week for a better option.

I'll be benching him for Maroney next week. And I never thought that would be happening this early on.

I watched some of this game and I think Ruben only had 2 carries at halftime, but Cleveland only had about 10 plays the whole first half.

I saw that one too but at least they used Harrison and not Vickers. Harrison gained like 10 yards on that one because, are you ready for this, he has speed. Gasp! image using a speed back on the sweep intead of the backup fullback. Great game plan.Just amazes me Carthon has a job, he is still playing like it's 1983.

What game did you watch? Frye was the only reason the Browns were even in the game at the end.

Check Droughns stats with Frye at QB in 2005, this shouldn't have been a suprise to anyone. Droughns and the Browns O is in for a long season.

not to pour gas on the fire, but....

check the brownies schedule and you'll see its going to be a long, long year for Droughans owners.

Funny that Frye blames the playcalling, which rested the team's success on his ability to perform. This first series had to be a bad omen for the Browns:

1-10-CLE26 (14:52) C.Frye pass to B.Edwards for 74 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on CLV-K.Shaffer, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at CLV 26 - No Play.1-20-CLE16 (14:40) R.Droughns right guard to CLV 16 for no gain (S.Shanle, C.Grant).2-20-CLE16 (14:05) C.Frye sacked at CLV 15 for -1 yards (W.Smith).3-21-CLE15 (13:31) C.Frye sacked at CLV 7 for -8 yards (B.Young).

For any who saw the game, on the 1st and goal which Frye score on, who was the RB in the backfield? Was Droughns not in at that time either?

Things started off bad and never got much better. I would have thought that with a young QB and a veteran RB, the Browns would pound the ground game early to try to establish some play action later on (or at least slow down the NO pass rush). No such luck.

i have no idea what the hell happened in the first half of that game.

but the offense did look much more in sync the second half.

need to remember they signed their starting center about a week ago, and the 1st string offense didn't get as many preseason reps as they probably should have.

obviously many people are justifiably concerned about the offense, but maybe lets not throw the towel in just yet.

Carthon wasn't even a real OC in Dallas. I think he had the title but was just a glorified equipment manager.

That's what I was thinking, especially a coach with a SB ring

I'm just not high on Droughns, as Marc Levin can attest to. Yes, he had a very good year last year, but I just don't think the situation in Cleveland is good enough for him to sustain that.

Most people say it's talent and opportunity, and that's VERY true for exceptional players. However, for just above-average players like Droughns, situation has a much bigger effect. Cleveland just isn't the place, right now, to produce a ton of results.

Cleveland's schedule is BRUTAL. If Droughns puts up a decent week, I'm going to try to trade him for, well, anything.
