Maualuga has yet to see any nickel snaps. He's the base defensive SLB only and he's not been nearly as good over the past month as he was last year. Not as physical at the point of attack and he's missed or been late to the play on a number of tackle chances. Either he's dinged or the Bengals have beaten some of his aggressiveness out while drilling the importance of gap integrity into him.
really surprised to hear that he's not playing physical; that was his strenght at 'hUSC. i really was expecting him to be THE big breakout LB this year. maybe like Timmons I'm a year early?
I'm beginning to think that I need Marvin Lewis to leave before I can realistically use Maualuga. I like to carry a lot of LB's for injury and bye week depth but between him and McClain as dead weight at the end of my bench this really stinks.
I would disagree in a 40-man roster, 14-team league with 4-man taxi squads and 4-man IR's and you start 11 IDP's . . . but it's getting pretty damn close when he and McClain are the last two of my 9-man active roster LB corps. If I had more injury problems then I'd definitely need to dump him.

I dont think it has much to do with Lewis. The bottom line is the Bengals play quite a bit of nickel and Dhani Jones is playing at a much higher level than the other linebackers and Brandon Johnson is really good in coverage. Im guessing about any coach would see it the same way.
