Does this signing signify much of anything? Do the 49ers think they found a diamond in the rough, a project, depth, all of the above? Is this just a standard deal for a 7th rounder? Do you read much into the timing of the deal? I don't know the specifics, but are there any reports of guarantees or interesting clauses? Are there any published reports on how he has done so far that would help shed some light on how the 49ers see him fitting in?

I'd say it doesn't mean much - without looking at specifics. NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, and a 4-year deal simply means they have locked him up if they like what they see.
