BREAKING: Husband says Jim Nabors, who starred as Gomer Pyle on TV's `The Andy Griffith Show,' dies at Hawaii home at age 87.

Hearing him sing 'Back Home Again in Indiana' every May at the 500 will stay with me forever - incredible voice

I've taken my son to the 500 every year for the last 6 or 7 years I think now.  I'm so glad we were both able to say we got to hear Jim Nabors sing Back Home Again in Indiana, he always did a fantastic job.  RIP Jim!

Who?

:)

RIP

It's cool that he was finally able to marry the man that he loved. I thought that he might get some grief at his last couple of appearances at the Indy 500 but they welcomed him with open arms.

An icon in May in Indy for sure. My kids only know him as the guys that sang at Indy.
I can't imagine there are many places that he is loved more than he is here in Indianapolis.

I'm old enough to have enjoyed Gomer Pyle USMC and to have been in the stands every time he sang Back Home in Indiana at the Indianapolis 500.

Been there every time he sang as well, although I was only 2 the first time so I only watched Gomer Pyle on reruns. Hasn't been the same the last few years without him, song still bring goose bumps as that one day a year even us non-Hoosiers feel like Indiana is home.
