RIP Mary Tyler Moore. (1 Viewer)

from NYDailyNews:

Actress Mary Tyler Moore passed away Wednesday, her publicist said.

The iconic actress, 80, has long battled diabetes, and her condition has deteriorated to the point family members are rushing to a hospital to say goodbye, TMZ.com reported.

Once source told the outlet she’s been on a respirator for more than a week.

Moore was first diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 33, around the start of her beloved run on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” a show about an independent young woman working in a Minneapolis TV newsroom.

"Chuckles the Clown brought pleasure to millions. The characters he created will be remembered by children and adults alike: Peter Peanut; Mr. Fee-Fi-Fo; Billy Banana; and my particular favorite, Aunt Yoo-Hoo. And not just for the laughter they provided—-there was always some deeper meaning to whatever Chuckles did. Do you remember Mr. Fee-Fi-Fo's little catchphrase? Remember how, when his arch-rival Señor Kaboom hit him with a giant cucumber and knocked him down, Mr. Fee-Fi-Fo would always pick himself up, dust himself off, and say, 'I hurt my foo-foo'? Life's a lot like that. From time to time we all fall down and hurt our foo-foos. If only we could deal with it as simply and bravely and honestly as Mr. Fee-Fi-Fo. And what did Chuckles ask in return? Not much. In his own words, 'A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.'"
so long Mary

:(  RIP

I am one of the few people that was lukewarm on the MTM show.  It was good, but I always liked the Carol Burnett and Bob Newhart shows better.   But she was great and VERY hot on the D*** van Dyke Show.

She was one pretty lady in the #### Van Dyke Show...she was a true part of Americana TV...star of two all-time great shows...you're gonna make if after all...

Well she's my girl, isn't she. The dream prom date, wife, femme fatale & fata morgana for my entire generation.

Beyond that, she was one of the most important people of the 20th C for, at a very important time, understanding that progress wasn't won by being the first independent woman to be funny, but by being funny as an independent woman. She gave her gender permission to be strong, free, unafraid to go for the mountaintop without putting on chainmail and attacking windmills along the way. Reach, climb, there you go - you're still you.

I love and thank you, Mary Tyler Moore. RIP -

I thought she was one of the actresses that kept aging really well- always looked pretty (never found her beautiful- but definitely really pretty). there was some smaller movie... in the late 70s or 80s love-triangle thing, IIRC- she did aerobics maybe in it? .. whatever, she's not wearing much and looks amazing.

"just between friends"

looking that up reminded me how amazing she was in Flirting with Disaster

She was a ####### icon, god I loved her in the #### Van Duke show. That was one of my absolute favorite shows to watch as a young boy.  Her work on the Mary Tyler Moore show was great as well, It isn't easy playing the straight to all the comic geniuses on that show. Chuckles the Clown is arguably the greatest half hour comedy episode in the history to television and she was absolutely spot on in that episode. Her disapproval of all the black humor others were making about his demise ahead of the funeral and then her crying when everyone else was laughing and her ending up laughing and crying at the end was gold.

If you love TV from that era I recommend you-tubing the following...the Odd Couple when they are on Password...just wonderful...perhaps my favorite moment of this era is if you you-tube Robert Conrad v. Gabe Kaplan on The Battle Of The Network Stars...this is perhaps the most entertaining ten minutes to ever be on TV...Howard Cosell interviewing Telly Savalas while he is smoking a butt is just priceless...
