RIP Mary Tyler Moore. (1 Viewer)

:(  RIP

I am one of the few people that was lukewarm on the MTM show.  It was good, but I always liked the Carol Burnett and Bob Newhart shows better.   But she was great and VERY hot on the D*** van Dyke Show.
Only FBG would censor the name of a family TV show.

Loved her on **** Van Dyke show and grew up watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Didn''t know her son accidentally shot himself dead. :(

Who can turn the world on with her smile?
Who can take a nothing day, and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well it's you girl, and you should know it
With each glance and every little movement you show it

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can never tell, why don't you take it
You're gonna make it after all
You're gonna make it after all

How will you make it on your own?
This world is awfully big, girl this time you're all alone
But it's time you started living
It's time you let someone else do some giving

Love is all around, no need to waste it
You can never tell, why don't you take it
You might just make it after all
You might just make it after all
Hats off to you. RIP :(

If you love TV from that era I recommend you-tubing the following...the Odd Couple when they are on Password...just wonderful...perhaps my favorite moment of this era is if you you-tube Robert Conrad v. Gabe Kaplan on The Battle Of The Network Stars...this is perhaps the most entertaining ten minutes to ever be on TV...Howard Cosell interviewing Telly Savalas while he is smoking a butt is just priceless...
"you know...like the song 'this is the dawning of the age of aquarium' "

I loved both her and Ginger on Gilligan's Isle.  I always thought her and the professor were an item.  R.I.P.

Well she's my girl, isn't she. The dream prom date, wife, femme fatale & fata morgana for my entire generation.

Beyond that, she was one of the most important people of the 20th C for, at a very important time, understanding that progress wasn't won by being the first independent woman to be funny, but by being funny as an independent woman. She gave her gender permission to be strong, free, unafraid to go for the mountaintop without putting on chainmail and attacking windmills along the way. Reach, climb, there you go - you're still you.

I love and thank you, Mary Tyler Moore. RIP -
She was hot as ####!

The MTM Show was a favorite of my Mom's and turned into one of mine. What a fantastic and incredibly talented woman.

RIP  :(

Note: Our family loved to give one another nicknames. One of mine was Ted Baxter as I apparently had the propensity to broadcast current events.

I don't think she's close to Lucille Ball or Carole Burnett.  Or several others.  She was cute, a trailblazer, etc but she was not a comedic genius IMO
It's an open question why people were really tuning into DVD Show. Arguably she carried 2 top rated shows through 3 decades... no small feat.

I don't see MTM as a comedian without the scripts. Carol Burnett is for sure and Lucille Ball strikes me as naturally being funny for some reason, no scripts needed.

Watching the hour tribute to her on CBS now. They spent a good 15-20 min with Oprah talking about how MTM gave her hope and really got her to go after her dream of having her own show.

Well that's not exactly a crime. She was a comedic actress.

My sisters were of an age to watch MTM and they totally looked up to that image of an independent professional woman in the city.

I think people might also be ignoring her role in creating ensemble sitcom tv. Reiner is flat out brilliant... but he did kind of luck into her. That DVD show was supposed to be about whacky comedy writers but it pretty quickly became about DVD's home life. And MTM was early Friends with Mary at the center.

It's always nice to read about persons who were genuinely good off-camera. Mary gave big breaks, stood up for, and backed up a lot of people throughout her career. Michael Keaton and David Letterman got network chances because of her. CBS thought Ted Knight was "too old looking" and were seeking a replacement until she stepped in. Valerie Harper was scared to do her spin-off because she feared if the show was cancelled then she wouldn't have a job. Mary told her if that happened, then Rhoda would move right back to Minneapolis.

I remember when Letterman was getting ready to retire and reading a not-so-positive article about Dave's disdain for most of humanity. It said there were only two show business people who he loved, admired deeply and unequivocally: Johnny Carson and Mary Tyler Moore.

Was there ever a better decade for television sitcoms than the 1970s?  Not only Mary, but MASH, All in the Family, Taxi, The Odd Couple, The Bob Newhart Show, Barney Miller, Good Times, Happy Days, The Jeffersons, Maude, Mork and Mindy, Sanford and Son, Three's Company,  Welcome Back, Kotter and WKRP in Cincinnati.

We're going to make it after all

They just don't have the quality sit-coms like they used to.

The golden-era...it was just so much more innocent back than...no attitude and snarkiness like you get now...there was really only three channels and no remote...it took effort to change the channel...every night was known for particular shows...it's funny to think that Three's Company was once considered very racy...

MTM Show marathon on Sundance channel now.

so many great characters in that show.
Ted was a wee bit over-the-top, but the writers did a lot to deepen him in later seasons. The rest of the characters were wonderfully nuanced almost from the start, especially for a 70s comedy. I always thought Murray was the show's secret weapon - Gavin MacLeod & Betty White were hilarious playing off of each other.
