RIP Riley (2 Viewers)

So I only spent a few hours there today because I was alone and as much as I love my Riley it's boring talking to a sleepy three week old. However, I fed her and she did eat 25ml by mouth. The ability is there imo. She just tires out easily. The nurse seemed confident she'd get it eventually but all nurses say different things.
At this point Shady, slow boring progress is very very good.

Keep talking, though.  (Or read some books to her?)  Trust in the power of that ...let her 'hear' your love for her.  I suspect those lonely hours between the two of you will be powerful memories to hold close.  And - Circle of Life - maybe she will return the favor many, many years from now.
Maybe read the FFA to her, start with Tim's thread

:lmao:

The transition from tears to laughter has been remarkable and inspiring.

Not out of the woods yet, but the clearing is just around the bend. So happy for you and yours, Shady.

I'll be a daddy in the not too distant future and I'm sure I'll look back on this thread as an example of how to handle adversity when the inevitable bumps in the road arise. Hopefully they're not as massive as yours but I hope to handle them with similar strength and aplomb.

Good job, daddy
A great support system (especially that gofundme), Riley's progress, and a great family/friends network have been key. Definitely not out of the woods yet but I'm very hopeful. Ran for the first time in three weeks today (it was a disaster) but I did it.

And music, always have music playing

I think you should set aside some money for hair products. Lordy day, that girl is gonna have a full head of it. You Italian, shady?

Her hair shocked us when she was born. Our son was blond and bald. Yes both me and my wife are 100% Italian

From those pics, she looks just like any beautiful newborn.  The lack of obvious distress, jaundice, gauntness, etc has got to be a good sign, yes?  She also seems fairly alert for a little one who recently had such a huge scare.  Riley looks like she wants to gtfo of there and get home to casa de Shady.

They are lowering the steroids again. There is no protocol for this treatment so they are just seeing how she does. The feedings are still inconsistent. She takes 10ml, 15ml, 25ml, etc but is supposed to take 75ml (they upped her intake again cuz she's still not gaining). She had pt today and is exhausted. Doctor basically said they are trying to hold off on putting tube in but they want her to come home so it's a delicate line on waiting.

Also, doctor said we are open to come for all her feedings but it's tough because we live half hour away and she eats every 3 hours. My wife is still sick so I fed her at 12 and now I'm at a German bar by myself eating a burger and drinking beer so I can give her a 3pm feeding. Not complaining about that though lol

I think you've earned a burger and beer!

Glad to see you're taking care of yourself and your wife. You'll need that energy once Riley comes home!

She's awesome Shady

let me know if you want some company for that burger and beer one day.  Always looking for a way to kill a few hours during a workday
