He already was, but yes, I think this increases his chances to hold onto the spot.Is Lemar Marshall the man now?
No need to, he is a backup as he was resigned later in the year.TomJust realized I posted a question about the guy's opportunity in a thread whose title indicates he's been cut. I'm a genious.
I'll repost my question in a new thread.
Watch who the 'Skins draft. One of their early picks (Rounds 2 or 3) figures to be a LB. If they draft a MLB, that would (eventually) enable Lemar Marshall to move back outside and would put McCune and that rookie to compete to start there. If they draft an OLB, Marshall is likely staying in the middle, and McCune would remain his backup. What do you guys think McCune's status is with the release of Arrington? Any change?
Ourlads currently has him listed as backup at SLB. Any opportunity for him to have a shot at taking over at MLB in Washington?
Barring injury, I'd say there is little chance he ousts any of the starters, and if the 'Skins decide to go LB with their 2nd rounder he may fall back on the depth chart a little more.He could do well if given the chance, though. The staff has always talked positively about him. He's full of "potential" but will need some luck to try and showcase himself. What do you guys think McCune's status is with the release of Arrington? Sorry just found that part funny after knowing he was cut last year.I don't think Marshall gets moved from his MLB and one could argue that with the Holdman signing things won't change from last year. Holdman I believe started when Arrington was down and I saw positive comments about him as well.Barring injury, I'd say there is little chance he ousts any of the starters, and if the 'Skins decide to go LB with their 2nd rounder he may fall back on the depth chart a little more.He could do well if given the chance, though. I don't recall him ever being cut.Sorry just found that part funny after knowing he was cut last year.I don't think Marshall gets moved from his MLB and one could argue that with the Holdman signing things won't change from last year. Not sure why it's so funny. Like redman said, McCune was very raw going into the draft. He wasn't going to make the regular roster, but the 'Skins wanted to hold on to him. So they released him at the final cut down then immediately resigned him the next day so he could be placed on the practice squad. He worked his way on to the regular roster by about midseason and got some PT.Quotes on McCune after a quick search:Sorry just found that part funny after knowing he was cut last year.
I found it funny because Gibbs will talk positively about Charles Manson. He just doen't bad-mouth people. Gregg Williams on the other hand doesn't exactly through around compliments too often, although I think he's starting to become more like Gibbs with the media. Not sure why it's so funny.Sorry just found that part funny after knowing he was cut last year.
Probably because a lot of rookies get cut and resigned to the practice squad. It doesn't really count as getting cut.LOL! I guess I forgot because they resigned him and he ended up playing special teams a good deal.
Imagine that, a coach praising a draft pick they made just a day earlier. Not sure why it's so funny. Like redman said, McCune was very raw going into the draft. Gibbs: "Most football players are really well built, but he's on a different level."
(day after the draft) "A lot of people maybe backed off him probably because of his age, but for us we felt like he was someone of value"
(regarding his strength/conditioning) "Wait 'til you see this guy."
Williams: "The fact that he's more mature--I like that."
"I'm anxious to see him play in live conditions. He's got a good frame and he has shown toughness."
ETA: I don't consider the staff acknowledging his "rawness" as a real negative. They see potential and are working to cultivate it.
What does it count as?I understand that many rookies get cut but there were 31 other teams who could have signed him, yet they didn't. Often times players will get cut and then move onto other teams, yes even rookies do this.Probably because a lot of rookies get cut and resigned to the practice squad. It's pretty rare that a 5th round pick gets picked off of waivers by another team.Do you disagree that McCune is a project and that the Redskins have invested time and effort into teaching this guy and working him onto the field? 'Cause that's all anyone is saying. If the 'Skins have no interest in his abilities and potential, why is he still on the roster?I understand that many rookies get cut but there were 31 other teams who could have signed him, yet they didn't. I find it fascinating that you're this passionate about a 5th round LB for the Redskins. Could it be because you have some sort of agenda about the team? No, couldn't be . . .What does it count as?I understand that many rookies get cut but there were 31 other teams who could have signed him, yet they didn't. What? I'm not a Redskins fan and don't own McCune. Knowing this do tell what my agenda is?I find it fascinating that you're this passionate about a 5th round LB for the Redskins. He wasn't mobile or athletic enough to play in the 4-3, so it'll be interesting to see if he's better off in the 3-4.TM Miami Dolphins (MIA) The Dolphins signed LB Robert McCune off Washington's practice squad and waived LB Keith Newman. McCune was a fifth-round draft choice of the Redskins in 2005.
