The Rockies announced today that ace Ubaldo Jimenez is going on the 15-day disabled list because of a cut on his right thumb cuticle.Jimenez's placement on the DL is retroactive to April 2, making him available to return from the DL on April 17. To take Jimenez's place on the active roster the Rockies have recalled right-handed pitcher Greg Reynolds from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Reynolds is slated to start for the Rockies on Saturday at Pittsburgh."If he's not ready, then what can that lead to?" manager Jim Tracy said this morning as the Rockies prepared to play the Dodgers this afternoon. "I don't want to be involved in something like that. We need to make sure he is right."Jimenez, 26, started on opening day Colorado Rockiesmagainst the Diamondbacks last Friday, but he clearly wasn't himself, his velocity down and his pitch command off target. Typically one of the majors' hardest throwers, Jimenez' fastball topped out at 95 mph. He allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings and took a no-decision in the Rockies' loss. He served up two home runs.Jimenez originally hurt the thumb on March 2 during spring training, and then the cuticle became infected. The cut opened up again last Thursday, the day before the opener, when he was playing catch.Reynolds, 25, was slated to begin the 2011 season as a member of the Triple-A Colorado Springs starting rotation. Reynolds was originally drafted by the Rockies in the first round (2nd overall) in the 2006 draft. The 6-foot-7 right-hander has made just 20 starts over the past two seasons (2009-10) in the minor leagues due to various injuries.
