Rodgers: Week 17 ***INACTIVE*** (1 Viewer)

Aaron Rodgers is one guy being bandied about as not having much value this week but I am starting to wonder here. I submitted a question on "The Audible" last night, about the better play Flynn or Rodgers; the answers were 3/4 from Flynn is better than 1/4 from Rodgers (Bloom) - and - 1/4 from Rodgers, with the first team, better than 3/4 of Flynn with the back-ups (Bremel). Now I am starting to wonder about many different things, one of them is if Rodgers comes in and puts up two TDs in the first quarter, that will put him at 47 TDs for the season, leaving him 3 TDs from tying Brady's record of 50. Rodgers has the ability to finish this season with the highest single-season QB rating ever (he's ahead of Peyton's record); he has already has the 4th best passing TD number in a season, this season. Rodgers is arguably having the best season that a QB has ever had, at least in the last 25 years; it would seem strange that he would leave some milestone on the table when it may be in reach. I don't want to make it sound like hanging 5-6 TDs, on DET, is an easy thing to do but if Rodgers gets to 47 TDs with 45 more minutes of football left, does he just go and sit down? I could easily make the argument that if that is the case maybe he won't play at all. DET still does need to win this game to secure the 5th spot and not have to face GB in the 2nd round (I think); would GB really run-up the score so much, in an otherwise meaningless games for them, just to help Rodgers set a record; seems like it could be dangerous or it could be demoralizing to DET, if GB does face them again. Another question I had was does GB showcase Flynn's talent in this game? Flynn is a free-agent that they want to retain, why drive up his value? Now GB can put Flynn out there with the 2nd team and not sweat his production but that makes his fantasy outlook a little scarier to predict. Anyway this is where my thoughts are leading me but all you have to do is look at my avatar to see where that usually gets me. Thoughts?

Rodgers will play one or two series, wave to the home crowd, the home crowd will cheer approvingly and Flynn gets the rest of the game.

I'm not even sure why the Packers would expose Rodgers to one or two series. He's taken plenty of hits already this season. Let him heal his wounds and come out blazing in RD2.

Probably because you don't want him sitting three weeks without seeing action.
How much action do you think he needs to keep fresh?
Are we talking women or football? If we are talking football, two series, as long as neither one is three and out. And I would think they would want to see one scoring drive too.

Do you believe the Packers are committed to have him playing as little as possible?

From the horse's mouth
The Packers have nothing to play for. "Whether he starts, we’ll talk about that today," said McCarthy. "It’s important for the quarterbacks, we repped all three of ’em this week." Matt Flynn will likely play the vast majority of snaps, with Graham Harrell available in reserve.

They've (Rogers and McCarthy) mentioned a couple of times that they felt the Colts should have played their starters for a quarter a few years back when they had home field sewn up after week 15.If they play their starters MORE than a quarter, then they deserve any Rogers injury they get.

This. If the Packers score on the first drive, Rodgers is done for the day. If not, he'll see another series at most.

If Flynn plays a lot do any of the Packer fans know if he has a "favorite" target or if he clicks better with some WR's than others?

would assume James Jones and Randall Cobb since they all practiced together the most - Jones for this week since Cobb inactive.

If Rodgers had Flynn stats today not only would he of set the record for TD passes in a season but would of upped his record setting season QB rating, he would of had the "greatest season by a quarterback" argument pretty well wrapped up; it is a shame he didn't play.
