"Roethlisberger manages the game...." (1 Viewer)

Roethlisberger chokes huge, and yet still wins the Super Bowl. Unreal that people will continue to say they'd rather have him than the other big three.

He really DID manage the game this time, no question about it. He was nowhere near his best, but still made enough plays to win the game. Several key 1st downs on th ground, a couple of nice throws, even a key block on the El to Ward TD.

Say what you want, but 27-4 overall, 5-1 in the playoffs, 2 AFCC appearances, 1 Super Bowl win, and a theoretical playoff MVP before your 24th birthday is not too shabby.

What is a "theoretical playoff MVP?"

If they gave out an MVP awars for the playoffs as a whole, he'd have won it. That probably wasn't phrased well, but he was the MVP of these playoffs.

Stuart Scott just said on Prime Time that Big Ben did a good job managing the game!
Stuart Scott is wrong. Ben did terrible today, and his INT was just a terrible, terrible throw. He made a few decent plays today, but they won this game largely in spite of him, not because of him. This game was won because of the defense and a couple big plays, 2 of which he had nothing to do with other than a block on Randle El's TD pass.

Ben made several mistakes, but made a couple of big plays with his feet.I'm sold. I too considered him a "game manager" until he took the Steelers down the field in the final 3 minutes against the Chargers on Monday night. He came of age that night, IMO.

At this point, he's out Tom Bradying Tom Brady.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sold on him as a QB. He just didn't play a smart game tonight and missed too many open guys. He wasn't as sharp as he has been. Of course, Ward dropped a well thrown pass that would've been a pretty good TD pass for him.

I'm a fan, but he played like crap today.
Thats all well and good, remember he's 23 and has a Super Bowl Trophy under his belt..
What sort of ignorant response is that? "Yeah, but he's 23 and has a trophy"?Blind homerism just makes me cringe.

Hey Shick....Take it like a man...not like the woman you portray.
He has taken it like "a man". He's congratulated the Steelers, not blamed the refs once, and taken to task those that have. But here, he's pointing out (correctly) that it takes more than 1 person to earn a SB win...and that Big Ben did play poorly tonight. The Steelers won *despite* Ben's struggles...they didn't win *because* of him.

BTFU. Where do you get off talking like that to Shick? Think about it for a minute - on the night your team won its first Superbowl in years and almost certainly in your memory, the first thing you did was come on the internet and act like a #### when you should be out on the town enjoying your victory, taping sportscenter, or tagging your girlfriend? And in the unlikely event you're old enough to remember the past Steelers victories, shame on you. Act like you've been there before.

Seriously.

Ben fell apart after the pick no doubt about that. Before that though he was fine. I know the stats won't show it but Ward droped 2 or 3 balls and Ben was making plays with his legs. After the INT though Whisenhunt basically took him out of the game plan. They limited his pass opportunities and tried to run. They pulled the trick play at the right time and sealed the game... then it was over for him and the game. Seattle rattled him and was probably the best defense that Pitt has played all year. That team didn't and still doesn't get enough credit. They seemed to beat the Steelers in all fazes except on the scoreboard. They had bonehead moments and penalties that killed them and their D seems to be very open to the big play. The Steelers did not play like the way they did during the season or the past three weeks but won. So I'm gonna enjoy it but I do believe this Seattle team deserves a lot of credit. And while I like watching the Steelers win and big plays this game was another example of why the hoopla and two week crap needs to be cut out. These were two football teams that had there mentalities destroyed by the media and corporate America.

Is it just a rule of thumb that, when your team wins a championship, your IQ points drop by a margin of 30 for the next few days? No worries, though. No one will remember this SB. Ten years from now when everyone's trying to do a free recall of all the SB games of the 2000-2010 range, everyone will be saying, "Well, New England beat Philly in the 2004 season and [teamx] v. [teamY] played 2006...but...who was it that played in the 2005 season?"

And, then they'll go look it up and all say, "ohh, that's right...god that was waste of a super bowl that was."

Congrats on the win Steeler fans. I won some money, so I'm happy. But, it was just a flat out awful game on all counts. And, being a jerk about winning is about as pathetic as it gets from any fan. Rubbing it in a little is one thing. Being a tool is another.

:goodposting: The first hour tool level is surprising, considering the Steelers and Seahawks are hardly long time rivals.

Pittsburg would have probably done better with 20 other NFL QB's in there. Lets face it, Pittsburg won inspite of Big Ben not because of him. That was a big time choke by him.

In fact, I'd have to say that even in all of Manning's playoff chokes, I don't think he's played that bad.

I wonder how Ben felt....when he realized he was the third best QB on the field today?

Or am I missing someone else as well?

He felt like a Super Bowl Champion. And he felt like he had a huge part in making it happen.

Im afraid if he wins another Super Bowl, Steeler fans will start the Tom Brady-esque nonsese that hes one of the best QB's of all time for his ability to win big games (regardless of the way he plays). Im a big admirer of Big Ben, but I hope Steeler fans embrace him for what he is and not try and shove it down our throats that hes the next all time-great QB.

He might not be the next "all-time" great. But he's going to be a great QB for the Steelers for a long time. How can anybody dismiss or downplay what this guy has accomplished so far? Steeler fan or not, what he's done is simply amazing. :towelwave:

Dont get me wrong, Im a big fan. I just see how Pats fans have reacted with Tom Brady and hope theres no similarity in behavior. After the Pats won their second title, their fans began to conveniently forget how average Brady was in their first Super Bowl (145 passing yards). They started comparing him to Joe Montana. Not Terry Bradshaw or Bart Starr (both who won multiple Supber Bowls). But Joe Montana. Its that kind of revisionist history that is so nauseating. I dont want to see that happen with Ben, because I really like the guy and hope to continue rooting for him in the future. Today we all saw that Ben was not the dominant superstar that drove the Steelers to victory. He was another piece in the puzzle (an important peice at that). I hope that in 5-10 years, after a long, succesful career in Pittsburgh with more Super Bowl glory, Steeler fans remember how things really transpired for Ben vs the Seahwaks.

I'm sure he'll be thinking about it all offseason while staring down at his superbowl ring.....

I'd say that Pats fans (myself included) were overrating Brady at the time, but in retrospect, my have just been ahead of the curve. With the third Super Bowl title and leading the league in passing this year, I'd say that Brady is closer to Montana than Bradshaw or Starr.

I might not have seen the same game as some of you. Ben was a liability to the Steelers last night. If they would have lost the game he would have been main cause for the loss. This game is similar to the one he played in the AFC Championship last year. His team wins, so you are welcome to label him a "manager" or whatever you wish. Please don't compare him with Tom Brady.......................Brady has played outstanding in all of his Super Bowl games. I understand that he is 23 and may be awesome some day. Let's wait until he is before we mention his name with the greats of the game.

Why the need to set the bar so high? Bradshaw won 4 Super Bowls and was a much more impressive (IMO) pure passer than Brady is today. Being compared to Terry Bradshaw shouldnt be seen as an insult given Bradys skill set and pedigree/ Yet thats how many take it today, as if to say "I cant belive youre ONLY comparing Brady to Bradshaw" :wall:

HEROES? Give me a freaking break. But honestly, I have never witnessed such a pathetic display of football/officiating/coverage and just about anything else you could think of in this year's SuperBowl. Even the freaking commercials were blatantly biased. What was with those monologues that featured like 4 different Steelers and...Matt Hasselbeck. It's pathetic really.

Bradshaw was basically a 50% completion percentage passer for his career and ended up nearly 1:1 TD to INTs. Brady's numbers are much closer to Montana.

Roethlisberger did not have a great night, but he wasn't as bad as the stats indicate. He did a terrific job making plays on the run and had several drops that would have made his numbers look more respectable. The first INT wasn't all that bad -they run that play all the time - the go route on which Roethlisberger throws the ball short, the receiver knows to come back for it, and it usually works. Boulware did a great job being aware of it and staying behind the receiver to make that pick. All credit to him. The second INT was beyond brutal. The defender was supposed to be picked off and he threw to a spot without looking first to see if anyone jumped the route. That one's on him 100%.

Bottom line : he played well below what he's capable of, and well below the level at which he's played in these playoffs. He made some mistakes, but also made enough plays to win, and that was good enough last night. He's been the Steelers MVP in these playoffs, but last night, it took the defense playing a huge game to bail him out. To their credit, they did - it's a team game and sometimes everyone needs a helping hand.

I'll still take Roethlisberger any day. He'll learn from this game and just get better.

Roethlisberger chokes huge, and yet still wins the Super Bowl. Unreal that people will continue to say they'd rather have him than the other big three.
Roethlisberger had 3 great playoff games. If not for him, the Steelers wouldn't have been there. Deal with it.

Exactly. Well said, and really all that matters.
