Currently have the Roku 3 in our living room and the Google Chromecast in the bedroom.

Come September when our DircetTV contract is up we'll be getting a OTA for local channels.

Then, at least until the old 55" projection T.V. dies, pay for xbox live so that we can stream through that downstairs.

Can't wait to start saving :moneybag:

Roku is much easier to use for movies, Netflix.. No need to load it on a phone/ other device, just switch sources and go.

ive been looking at this. looks just like a chromecast but its a roku box in a usb stick

Roku 3500R Streaming Stick (HDMI) (2014) $49.99

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00INNP5VU/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=1535523722&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00BGGDVOO&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1VB81GTCPHXC0DR9RRSQ
Actually a HDMI stick, not USB. Looks pretty sweet though, and a lot less wiring (no power adapter, no HDMI cable, no ethernet).

I went with a wired ethernet connection for better speed.

What does this mean...MHL-port ready devices? Also from reading more details, you can't stream content from your laptop?

With the Roku3, I think the only way to stream from a computer is via a media server (e.g., PLEX) running on the computer. That's not a free service. So if this is an important feature, the Chromecast may be a better fit.

Was literally pouring over which powerline adapters to buy for my setup, Router in another room of my apartment, and don't want to touch the walls drilling, etc. Looks like the best value vs. performance, etc. of all of the powerline adapters I've looked at, I placed this in my Amazon cart yesterday..

My question is, if I have 3 devices in different locations I want to hook up to the powerline, do I only need one powerline adapter going into the router, or one for each device? So, rooms A, B, and C have connected devices, and the router is in room D. I am buying 4 powerline adapters, right? Or am I buying 6, plugging in 3 adapters into the router, one for each connected device? I feel like this should be obvious, but it's not to me :bag:

Just buy 4. If rooms A, B and C are somehow close enough, you can do what I do and connect a router as a switch to just one powerline adapter and plug multiple devices into it.

This. You only need one adapter for the main router, which basically extends your network into your house wiring.

Also, if you have multiple devices in one of the other rooms, you can plug a router into the adapter there and either hook up other wired devices, or create a new wireless access point. (although the latter can require some configuration of the second router)

I agree with everything here, but would suggest that if you don't have spare routers and would need to buy them, save your money and buy gigabit switches instead.

roku 3 stick arrived a few days ago.. so far im loving it much more than the chromecast.. not even close really.. no hbogo buffering issues either! time for some true detective and game of thrones

What is it that you like so much? I don't have any buffering issues with mine so I'm wondering if there are other reasons to prefer the Roku.

Not sure if you know the basics of Roku or not, but it's ideal if you are simply looking for watching stored media on your TV with no computer to control it.

Chromecast is good if you are wanting to throw content from a device onto your TV. I don't watch any shows or movies on computers or phones so a Roku driven by a big media server is perfect for me.

well the hbo go buffering was the selling point. but other than that there are so many other channels you can load. some of my favorite so far is aetv so I can catch up on bates motel, and justintv which is a great website to watch peoples streams. for example there are 24/7 southpark streams; 24/7 horror movie streams etc

Just got a Roku steaming stick and I'm loving it so far. Is there an OFFICIAL Roku thread to discuss good channels and other stuff related to Roku? Thought I saw one before, but I can't find anything using the stellar search function on this board.

Says it comes "preregistered to your Amazon account" - do we know if there's a way to change to a different account (e.g., if giving as a gift)?

hmm.. im assuming there would be a way to change the account info. I am not sure what they mean by that

Got two. I have the cc stil in box have yet to try it. I use ATV and keep waiting for a new version but Apple doesn't seem to care. This will be fun to try.
Did you order at regular price? It won't let me order more than one at $19.

Got them both for $19. Seperate orders if that matters. Tried a 3rd and it wouldn't let me.

Just ordered the Fire Stick. Also have Chromecast so we'll see which is better. But for $20, it's hard not to order.

the roku stick doesn't have a box that plugs into the tv. the stick plugs into the tv itself

the box is a little faster than the roku stick

roku 3 offers a headphone jack on the remote
